Tales of WiiU for the 3DS starring your favorite characters from the Uncharted, Killzone, and Knack series. Pre-order exclusive content on the Xbone.

But more seriously, I don't think we'll see anything new this year aside from maybe the PS4 port.

They could potentially have a new escort title at the event as well, but we're not getting a PS4 game outside of port. I really want to see how the Japanese fans react to the ToZ port announcement.

Considering other recent reactions? Badly.

What would you think an escort game would be and where would it end up?

In general, even if it bombs, I would consider Splatoon to be one of the best thought out new IPs they've made in ages.

It's in a popular genre that Nintendo sorely lacks. It's seemingly made by people who both like the genre and spent a lot of time thinking about what design decisions/mechanics actually make the genre fun and engaging. They thought through what sorts of mechanics they could add to make the game feel unique and like something people would consider playing despite having other shooters. And on top of all that, they put a lot of effort into making a title that evokes a strong feeling of being a "Nintendo game" despite being in a genre Nintendo doesn't really work in.

It's like a game from an alternate universe where Nintendo was really on top of things coming into this generation.

My new favorite mod.

You mean the same company that was basically releasing a musou game or something musou like game every single month from December to March?

I should have said more precisely. Yes they are working on DQH2 and while they were working on DQH their QA has gone downhill (I'm sure they are aware of that) so I doubt they'll accept as much work as they did last year. But of course this is just my speculation so who knows :p

Someone has to have interest for something in order to react and not many care for a PS3 port that came out a few months ago.

Only one milf in that crowd, afaik. ;)

I went to a Bic Camera, (don't know which one) and took a photo of Splatoon shelf.

There wasn't more, a little bit of The Witcher 3 (was sold out), but anything else.

I went to GamesMaya.

She also expects Splatoon > Xenoblade X

About Fire Emblem If, she has a lot of pre-orders for the limited edition (sold out), but almost none of the standard versions.
It seems people are still trying to find the limited one anywhere, and not giving up yet

I have absolutely no idea why Nintendo is so adamant in having such a ridiculously low shipment for the LE. I mean, the thing sold out something like... 3 months before release? That's a bit ridiculous.

Why do I get the feeling this two "versions" thing is gonna bit them in the Capital B.

Nintendo going all out with that marketing. For a point of reference, how well was XenobladeX marketed, if at all?
X had marketting not on the level of Splatoon but it had it
wish we had hard numbers on what the company actually spent on each game though
it would clear things up

I wonder if they're trying to drive people to the eShop.

Seems like a bad way to do it if that's the intention.

Well the usual blog guy said at first Nintendo told numbers of LE to retailers, retailers made orders of LE and quite a few of standard versions, then Nintendo increased the number of LE later after normal edition's order was placed. That was what the guy was bitching about..
I assume aforementioned normal edition ordering can't be cancelled and exchanged for additional print of LE.

(You really can't blame on Nintendo too much on this IMO because predicting the demand of LE isn't that easy, though).

It's probably not a super low run, but Nintendo is being conservative about not overproducing it, since it's not something they want to normally sell. If I recall, even the cart in the LE version is different - it has both versions of the game on the same cart. So in terms of manufacturing, it's a bit different from just making a bigger box and adding extra goodies.

It is a different cart, 8GB probably. And so its on a limited, expensive production run probably.

I doubt they went with a 8GB card, especially with a limited run (less units made = more expensive). Besides, Fire Emblem Awakening is somewhere around 1GB iirc, so it'd be quite "impressive" if Fire Emblem if was bigger than 4GB in total (what's more, I presume there'll be quite a lot of shared assets between the two versions).

But yeah, the limited run (well, I say limited due to how fast it sold out, three months before release) is probably partly due to the cartridge used. My money is on 4GB, 8GB would be utterly massive (unless the game is filled with pre-rendered cutscened, uncompressed audio and voice acting, etc.), and no game has used such a cartridge before.

The recent Monhun port begging thread has made me think. Have we had any franchises that had different sub-series depending on platforms? A recent example I can think of is Senran kagura with the beat em up and the musou series. Yugioh with the PSP and DS also did that. Tales Of tried something kinda similar.

Back when P3rdG and 3G were only leaked and not yet officialy confirmed/disappeared that's what I thought they would be doing with the series. If P3rdG was indeed true, Capcom probably had the same thought. Curious to see how this worked for other franchises.

If the PS4 edition include additional content not found on PS3, a couple of trolls on Twitter and 2ch will act really mad. Kotaku will pick up the "story" and give the impression that was a common sentiment. Vesperia Mk2.

I actually think Vita will get a new escort title. Maybe even pseudo-mothership like a sequel reusing assets.

Tales of the Tempest R obvsly

I don't really see another Tales game on Vita.

More voice acting, more cell-shaded FMVs, and more maps and map data. This game should be significantly larger than Awakening, at the very least.

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology on PSP? There were three of them and they were all crossover dungeon crawlers developed by Alfa Systems.

I highly doubt there's going to be 3x the voice acting, 3x the maps, or 3x of anything from Awakening
except siblings ayyy

Why would that surprise you? They made Awakening on a conservative estimate of what they could do with the hardware and threw in the kitchen sink out of a fear of the end of the franchise, they will likely pull more from it this time around and throw in even more of the kitchen sink. They may even pack-in N3DS enhancements like higher quality textures.

It's not going to be a 8GB card. You're insane. I think you're confusing the amount of effort you perceive going into the game, with actual data size. The entire game could be fully voiced and it wouldn't be 8GB.

What is Alfa System doing these days btw ?
Their last retail game was Oreshika 2 on Vita which was almost one year ago, and I always thought a Radiant Mythology 4 on Vita could make sense if they mostly use upscaled assets from the previous episode.
The install base may be high enough to make it a 150-200k seller, not a big cash in but it wouldn't be unthinkable considering Bamco's strategy of publishing as many games as possible.

They also are the biggest third party publisher on Vita (One Piece Musou, Gundam Breaker, God Eater, Sword Art Online, Super Robot Taisen, J Stars, Digimon, Taiko...), their only big "failure" on the system are the Tales of R in fact.

Apparently Alfa System also released a game on iOS

So, in the follow-up to the Bravely Default saga, Asano went from (prior to Bravely Second coming out):

Gematsu said:
Planning for Bravely Third, the potential sequel to Bravely Second, is already underway, according to producer Tomoya Asano.

“It might make you say ‘What?!’ given the timing, but I already have the concept for Bravely Third in me,” Asano told the latest issue of Famitsu. “If sales for [Bravely Second] are good enough, I’m planning to immediately submit a proposal. Please give me your support!”

To (this week):

Next, Gamer asks if the Bravely developers could share a little more on what we can expect to see next from the series.

“Hmm… yes, we’re currently thinking about whether a sequel would be more appropriate or if a completely new title would be more appropriate,” Asano replies. “This is currently a hot topic among [the development team].”

I think that pretty much says it all.

if they add feet
and hidden copies of codename s.t.e.a.m.
i can see it easily topping 8gb

This has been established for a while.

That being said, you're probably right that I am greatly overestimating the size.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???

Yup. I wonder what SE's sales target were.

Game should thrive on mobile if ever there is a new one, but a re-skin will not suffice and I think that's what happened here. Many thought Bravely Second was a re-skin of the first, and the marketing felt they were going in that direction too - much like to what you implied in some of your earlier posts.

I'm quite surprised we haven't seen a new Radiant Mythology game on either Vita or 3DS.

It always seemed like a consistent performer on PSP, and clearly well worth the development costs.

Instead we've had a sole remake on 3DS followed up with... a port of a mobile game. And then two remakes of not-so-popular DS Tales games on Vita. It's obviously very low-effort stuff that Bamco have tried on handhelds with Tales this gen, and it's given average to poor results, but both consoles have shown they're more than capable of hosting successful stuff from Bamco if they actually try.

And then two remakes of not-so-popular DS Tales games on Vita.

The games were not very popular because of the platform they were on, not because of themselves as Vesperia and Graces proved it after their initial failure on 360 & Wii.

Tales of Hearts DS is a very good mothership title and is highly regarded by those who played it
(Anime Edition not Cg of course)
, Tales of Innocence well not so much.

Regarding Radiant Mythology 4 this is what Makoto Yoshizumi said back in Summer 2012

About handheld consoles, the last entry in the Radiant Mythology series is Radiant Mythology 3, and we’re sure we can expect a fourth game. The PSP is at the end of its life term, the PS Vita isn’t selling very well, and the 3DS does not look like the favorite console for Tales fans. Which console would you like to develop Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 4 on?

Y: This is a difficult question and I can hardly answer that now. What you’ve said about those three consoles is true, and our developers for the RM series have been used to develop on the PSP. I suppose they will have to change their habits for the next episode.

So I think they were in a "wait & see" situation, last year they quickly dropped one shitty mega low budget spin off on 3DS to see how it would go, and last time we heard about it it had a very hard time to sell through its first shipment (~100k) despite the bomba bin, but at the same time Innocence R and Hearts R sold exactly the same on Vita and were most likely higher effort...

So how do they compute these informations to decide whether or not to do a 4th Radiant Mythology and on which platform is really up to them in the end, I just can't see anything else than a spin-off being announced at the next Tales of Festival (PS4 version of Zestiria asides of course).

Doesn't Splatoon release before the next Comgnet pre-order numbers?

It releases on Thursday like nearly every game in Japan, I think. The pre-order chart up now represents current pre-orders as of 27/05/15 at 8.00. It'll get some more pre-orders tomorrow and that'll be its final day before release.

Splatoon release = May 28, 2015 @ 12:00 AM JST
Next Comgnet pre-order update = May 28, 2015 @ 8:00 AM JST

I guess it has to do with when the store opens up or something, then? Or am I missing something.

I think a debut between 130-150k is not out of the question for Splatoon.

If Splatoon eclipses Pikmin 3 sales, it would become the highest-selling non-bundled & non-Mario software title (excl. Smash) on the platform uguugugug
