Samurai Warriors 4: Empires Announced For PS4, PS3, And Vita

Samurai Warriors 4 is getting and Empires version, which adds more of a strategic element to the hack-and-slash title, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita, Koei Tecmo announced in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Hachima]

Samurai Warriors 4: Empires will add more strategic elements than ever, Koei claim, including a new “Resident Domestic Administrations” feature. There will also be a room where you can work on developments and issuing commands to the military commanders by configuring their placements, making it much easier than before.

The story of the game will advance as you take suggestions from military commanders, and depending on the affinity between the military commanders that have been placed in the battlefield, there will be different effects going on in the Resident Domestic Administrations.

Samurai Warriors 4: Empires’ concept is is “the ultimate land-conquering Musou,” but rather than being able to force your way through with powerful military commanders, it will be balanced in a way where you must carefully prepare everything through internal affairs before having the action take place.

Too many Musou games coming out, how can I play NA,RTK,DQ,LOA & this at the same time?!?!

Maybe I can make some extra Doc Ock arms....

Haven't played a Warriors game in a while. Is this one pretty good, or am I better off getting DW8E on the cheap instead? My interest in the periods are pretty much equal, so it is which one is the better strategy and action game.

Nobunaga's Ambition & Romance of the Three Kingdoms aren't musou?

Considering how good they got kiwami looking, really tempted for this on vita if it looks and runs good.

Samurai Warriors 4 and 4-2 seem to look good and run pretty well on Vita.

OT: Yay, finally an Empires version on Vita. Can't wait! I enjoyed the Empires mode in Next and would like more, please.

Musou titles' sales for the Vita in Japan are still pretty high too so this is expected.
Knowing K-T they tend to release on every platform available.

But they skipped Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires on Vita as he says. It's strange that they made an exception for that.

Though I do wonder if it's because 8XL kinda bombed on Vita, while the Samurai Warriors games on the console have been doing pretty well:

43 PSV Dynasty Warriors Next 32,044 / 80,052
162 PSV Dynasty Warriors 8 with Xtreme Legends 11,627 / 11,627

34 PSV Samurai Warriors 4 43,545 / 100,477
84 PSV Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 23,644 / 35,109
90 PSV Samurai Warriors 4-II 21,977 / 32,917

70 PSV Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate 24,825 / 48,225

Still, I don't think any of them have had sales worth writing home about other than Samurai Warriors 4, personally.

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
When they originally announced DW8E, they said that the Vita version would come later, but it seems that it was silent cancelled.

Never forget

It's hard to compare when this game has just been announced. DW8E has gotten tons of patches that improved the game a lot since its rough launch, but the administration part is very basic, while this claims to have a more in-depth one.

In DW8E, you can play with officers in any ranking and rise through them though, or just play as a ruler from the start. DW8E is fairly poor in cutscenes and overall presentation though (although the newest path added a lot more battle dialogue) - it's actually a step back from DW7E in that sense.

It's a very customizable game though. You can customize characters (and even replace historical characters with your own custom versions), starting scenarios, flags, choose from a variety of house and castle backgrounds for the strategy phase, also customize (well, pretty much just chose a skin and colors) soldier types and horses too.

They never said this as far as i'm aware. What they did say is that they would look at bringing it to Vita but due to time constraints they stuck with PS3/PS4 initially.

Which is basically the same thing. But nevermind, DW8E was shit anyway, so no big loss there.

Awesome, thank you^^ Hmmmmm... Sounds worth a shot at least for a good price. Hope that administration level stuff pans out for the new one because it sounds pretty neat from a political historical perspective^^

Does this version still have the original story mode of 4 with coop? Or is this not the ideal game for coop story mode?

There's no traditional story mode in the Empires games. They support co-op during battles though.

In spite of no story mode though, SW3E had story cutscenes and CGs for specific events with specific characters, unlike the recent DW Empires which only have generic cutscenes that can be used for any character.

This is Koei, not Capcom. We will get this

inb4 SW3E

Anyway, cool to see a Vita version being released.

Haven't ever tried a Samurai Warriors Empires game so looking forward to this in the West. I guess these games aren't so big so updating characters like Dynasty Warriors Empires are.

True, I'm still upset we never got SW3 empires in the West, but I understand how all that went with the initial Wii exclusivity and it the ps3 ports never coming out west.

Will be good to play SW Empires again, loved 2 Empires.

lol. Samurai Warriors 2 Empires was fantastic. I still play it from time to time, so it'll be nice to have something new eventually whenever we get it :p

Oh this reminds that the F2P version of Dynasty Warrior 8: Empires never came out for the Xbox One. I'm curious about the Empires subset of these games, but not curious enough to really pay to try them lol.

Which one is the one coming out for steam?

Why does every Japanese game thread turn into PC port begging thread?

look, I'd love for every game to come to every platform possible, but that's not the case unfortunately. Recently, Japanese announcement threads have become unreadable, half the posts are begging for Steam ports.

what the hell? that wasnt port begging, merely a question on which samurai warriors game was coming for steam. For the record, Samurai Warriors 4-II is the one coming to steam.

apologies if that came off as hostile, but recent Japanese game announcement threads have been unreadable, I've been increasingly avoiding them because half the posts are begging for Steam ports.

I'd love for all Japanese games to make it to pc, if only for the future when those games would need texture mods, but there's no need to pollute every thread with port begging posts, it gets tiresome.

I can definitely empathize, but i think that one was harmless. Considering there IS a Samurai Warriors 4 version coming from steam. And with vanilla, 4-II, and now empires, its hard to keep track of which ones were coming out.

But no harm. Apologies if i came off as hostile too. :)
