Definitely Monster Hunter X.
I don't think Explorers will do a million.

Explore is the f2p mobile spinoff that's been in development for years. It would have to mega bomba to not do 1 million DLs.

I'm sure you meant MH Stories. Which is a good indication that maybe Capcom is stretching the brand a little too much.

Pokemon Blue didn't launch at the same time as RG in Japan. That's probably where the difference is coming from.

yeah, Famitsu really did a mess with Pokemon numbers... first including Blue than Yellow too...

but Brain Training did better I think, starting 33k (iirc) and LTD is over 4mln, just remember while running J-GC it had the lowest tie-ratio; but lowerest should be something like Tetris for PS1, debut outside the top30 and LTD around 5-600k, tie-ratio should be lower than BT

Week 4: #12 - 22,053/158,269 (Resident Evil is #1 w/ 148,904)
Week 5: #15 - 28,551/186,820 (Tekken 2 is #1 w/ 367,666)

Week 6: #16 - 16,202/203,022 (SMRPG@669,428, DB96@483,811, RE@262,764, T2@531,166)

As far as I can see, the best non-bundled debut for a new IP this generation (PS4/XB1/WiiU/Vita/3DS) is indeed Freedom Wars. And the best debut for a new IP last generation (PS3/360/Wii/PSP/DS) is..... Dragon's Dogma?

Damn, launching new IPs are hard.

Edit: The PS2 generation winner looks to be... Onimusha. And the PS1 generation winner is Gran Turismo?

This just shows best debut week doesn't always give you the best selling new IP of the generation.

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Some cancelled preorders for the uber limited edition, just that...Probably, they had more preorders than what was possible. XD

I'm not sure what Sony announcement we're expecting. I thought the Gamesmaya blog just mentioned that there would be a SCEJA retailer meeting today, and he was looking forward to their August line-up showcase. These retailer meetings are pretty regular right?

Yes, it's just a retailer meeting, but sometimes they get new releases info, and she was wondering if something secret could be revealed too.

Of course, could not happen.

The meeting should be right now btw

So using japanltdranking that would mean that per gen it was:

(5th gen) Gran Turismo - 648,650
(6th gen) Onimusha: Warriors - 517,078
(7th gen) Dragon's Dogma - 302,590
(8th gen) Freedom Wars - 187,890 (222,644 including digital)

Wow.

Curious about the western equivalents, if there's a similar trend. Hard to do without clear numbers, though, I guess.

I think we're gonna reach a point where, between the Samurai/Dynatsy series, their expanded versions, Licenced spin-offs, portable iterations, there won't be a single month without a "new" musou game being released.

...

Half-serious there.

Edited,sorry but was Sony right?

The first parties hold retailer meetings every month or so to update the retail channel on upcoming products so they can be better informed in terms of ordering stock and getting customers to preorder stuff. Titles showcased are not limited to first party stuff. Sometimes they will showcase stuff which are getting announced in magazines that week, or they might detail a major upcoming third party game. IIRC, Nintendo's retailer meetings leading up to SMT4's release had a lot of hands-on info about gameplay mechanics and features.

D3 Publisher's producer, Nobuyuki Okajima, saying that he'd like to make a PS4 exclusive if Natsuiro High School is successful. The game's launching in two days, but it doesn't seem to be part of the top 20 in current Comgnet pre-order rankings.

Btw, has my poison finally worked and killed Chris? I'd like to update the opening with all the numbers...

If he doesn't, i'll do it tomorrow after the new numbers come out.

Just from the top of my head some series that had big debuts: Destiny, Gears of War, Fable, Assassin's Creed, and The Last of Us. I even remember some games like Army of Two doing really well when last gen was rolling (600-700k debuts), I'm sure there were more as well.

Tsutaya's prediction for June:

1. Fire Emblem if White (3DS) [more pre-orders because it's easier than the Dark version]
2. Persona 4 Dancing All Night (Vita)
3. Dragon Ball Z Ultra Ultimate Fighter (3DS)
4. Rhythm Heaven The Best + (3DS)
5. Fire Emblem if Dark (3DS)
6. Final Fantasy 14 (PS3)
7. Fire Emblem if Special Edition (3DS)
8. PoPoLoCrois Harvest Moon (3DS)
9. Final Fantasy 14 (PS4)
10. Girls Mode 3 (3DS)

lol do they get paid for this!

Oh and Amazon and Yodobashi ran out of Wii U.

I'm surprised The Witcher 3 is on top.
Btw is the 3DS LTS including all 3DS's and New*3DS?
Kinda if so.
the fact the New*3DS has game/s incompatible with previous models makes it a different Platform with 3DS BC.

While I can't imagine those stores running out of Wii U means some massive reversal of fortunes, I do think it'd be worthwhile for Nintendo to consider launching their next console with new IPs, or at least franchise games that are truly revolutionary. Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario and Zelda are tried and true will always move consoles but past launch titles like Mario 64 and Wii Sports significantly changed the game.

With Wii U you had NSMBU which was great but added hardly anything to the formula, and Nintendoland which isn't as conceptually resonant as something like Wii Sports. Something like Splatoon on the other hand might have generated more interest and has the potential to draw in people outside of the usual Nintendo crowd.

Exactly. I think Pikmin was the right idea, but wasn't as fully formed as Pikmin 2 was in that regard. It would be great if Splat2n was a launch-window title for NX.

Unfortunately the archived NEOGAF data sales link doesn't work. Does anyone have an LTD of first-party 3DS and Wii U games?

It's really not a new platform, unless you consider the DSi a different system from the DS for some reason.
