This. The iron is hot right now for them to strike. They really should be on this. If this was Level 5 we'd have an announcement of a TV series, companion manga and toys already.

This is true, a good tv show would do wonders for it's legs if Yokai watch is anything to go by. Probably be a bit late though as by the time it comes out most of the momentum will have gone and it would have to drive that momentum itself.

Splatoon going strong and selling Wii U's. Hopefully, this shows Nintendo that there is real thirst for interesting new IP's. Wonder how things may have been if this was released in the launch window...

Nintendo needs something to jump start 3DS sales again. Guess the market is near saturation.

Well with Youkai Watch the anime came quite a bit later anyway.

Don't know, if they keep up with the online updates they could tie it in with a big update to regenerate interest. Plus, don't they have crossovers with various manga already?

I really hope Iwata realizes this is what happens when you offer an enticing new IP that cannot be found on the handheld platform. Their handheld and console lines have never been so similar.

They already did that, it's just that appeal can be a major factor in sales. Right now, Splatoon has the appeal that no other Wii U game has done, with the exception of Mario games of course.

Witcher 3 doing really great and had another under 50 % drop. Also time to eat at least small amount of crow for me regarding of Splatoon. Thought that last weeks WiiU hw bump was dissapointing and that Splattoon didn't really reach any new audiences but it seems the word of mouth is great for the title and it's bringin decent amount of new customers to the console. Wonder how many weeks this will last. Sadly there is nothing releasing for WiiU to keep the momentum going after couple of weeks. Everything else is deeead (well aside from Minecraft legs)

Wow... those Stella Glow numbers are like, 1/3 of what I was expecting. Not what COMG/Tsutaya represented at all really. Poor performance.

Shiren did better than I was expecting, too:

420 PSP Mystery Dungeon Shiren the Wanderer 3 Portable 14,005 / 31,373

594 PSP Mystery Dungeon Shiren the Wanderer 4 Plus: Kami no Hitomi to Akuma no Heso 6,044 / 16,437

Already outsold the last one on PSP.

I'm quite surprised with how 'well' Atelier Rorona did too. It actual figures it's quite bad, but compared to other ports it's done quite well.

And surprise of the week is WiiU hardware. Wow, not bad.

Awesome getting awesome sales? Wow, who would want that?

Did you even play it?

awesome games sell like shit all of the time and shit games sell well, too. I wasn't putting splatoon down in any way, it's just that coming off of the superbomb that was Codename STEAM on the 3ds i didn't see another new Nintendo IP , this time on the WiiU, and being a third person shooter (not exactly the hottest genre in Japan), go on to top the charts like this.

It wasn't an unreasonable assumption.

I kinda compared it to Pikmin a few weeks ago. I think 500k+ is a possibility for Splatoon.

500K+ would be amazing result for Splatoon. Never expected that. And Never expected Wii U to rise again this week.

If only Splatoon can keep this momentum going until December then Wii U would be saved :p

They do but that's not exactly new for Nintendo. Nintendo hasn't had an new anime based on one of their IP's in years (Unless you count all there various series of Pokémon...). So I'm reluctant to believe their making one now. Which means it'll be a while if ever for it to come out.

I actually always had a feeling it would do well. It had a significant amount Japanese fan art for it well before release, even had free endorsement from the ink girl creator when it was announced, as well as family appeal. Two important groups you'd want to sell your game to. Codename S.T.E.A.M had none of that.

I'm not even sure who that game was aimed at.

As for action games GTA, CoD and such found some footing in Japan. I see those people are starting to get attracted to WRPG finally.
Part of this goes to localization qualities getting better so I've heard (though it's worth noting Spike did say it costed them more than other games).

wow that Xenoblade Chronicles X vs Witcher 3 comparison is just sad

I guess Splatoon cannibalized the former's legs or something

Splatoon
Jap.: 238.374 (two weeks)
Fr.: 24.000 (first week)
UK.: 23.297 - 35.877 (two weeks)

Total: 285.671 - 298.251

Game should be around 350.000 or more units for the first two weeks in Japan + Europe.

US could push it above 550.000 units worldwide (first two weeks), let's wait for the numbers.

uh, that's a typo right, I don't think the range given was that wide

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
So this game is a system-seller? I can't think of any other reason for the increase.

It also exceeded YSO's prediction for the week. I think it is going to be purely based on stock next week as well. It will be interesting to see the digital sales, they are typically higher in stock shortages.

Well, there's W101, funded Bayonetta 2, made Xenoblade X, etc which are home console titles that there's no counterpart to the 3DS. The difference really has been the appeal, and marketing as well. Just the fanarts alone for Splatoon from Japan has been so huge. You really can see that the audience there has grown attached to the characters.

I don't think anyone expected the Wii U hardware increase. Splatoon has really delivered. Could this actually mean a slightly higher baseline for long enough for the console to overtake YOY sales?

Sales are what help you decide what game to buy? Seems pretty weird.

Continued sales means interest, if people are interested it must be for decent reasons. I never thought too much about Splatoon, hence the question. Also, don't take everything too seriously, it should do you good.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
