Shin Shoryuken

Metsu's first hit is with his elbow.

That's Shin Shoryuken.

Ahhh right. I see, I see.

Funny, if Ryu is this complete (and Roy) then I guess that means that the ballot is still going to have some effect on DLC throughout later this year and next year. It seems like they've been in the works for some time.

Ha! It's really, really easy to differentiate between the older and younger posters in this thread.

You don't need to explain Ryu's inclusion to those of us who are older and grew up on the NES, SNES, and Street Fighter II.

It's sad how many people here straight up don't grasp Ryu's significance or icon status, but I suppose that's just different generations for you. Same thing happened with Mega Man, too - older gamers fully understand the fact that he's one of the all-time gaming icons, but kids (understandably) often seem to have no idea who he is or why he's in the game. To a lot of younger folks, he's just that "blue robot from Smash."

I do agree that Ryu is pretty generic and "vanilla" compared to many of Street Fighter's other, more interesting characters (hell, even Ken is more interesting IMO), but it just doesn't matter. He's Mr. Fighting Games. The poster boy of the fighting game franchise that started the entire fucking genre that Smash owes its existence to. Those are inarguable facts that the people who don't "get" Ryu are just going to have to come to terms with (or not, I suppose).

I really can't find it in myself to be hyped for Roy at all, though. I'm happy for the Fire Emblem/Melee fans who really wanted him back, and I generally have no problem with clones being in the roster, but at least back in Melee he was the only Marth clone. In this game, he'll be the second Marth clone. Barf. But hey, like I said -- good for you, Roy fans! This is your day, and many of us have already had our days for our favorite characters!

I'm still hyped for Lucas, though!

Man, I wonder who thought it was a good idea to put the DLC patch so soon seriously. I bet someone will get fired pretty soon because of this

Is Nintendo prepping for something? What if Tekken X Street Fighter became Nintendo X SF X Tekken X VF?
Project X Zone 2 coming :p

But for real, as a reminder to all, there does not even have to be anything for Nintendo and Capcom to promote here. It's Ryu. They have a good ongoing relationship. That's reason enough.

I know the hype is real but it's just so weird seeing people rack their brains over this stuff, repeatedly.

edit: mobile fuckery, beaten

How good are the SF2 themes though really? Shit is iconic as fuck. I can't think of another fighter where the songs are that mega super distinct outside of like GGXX. Such good themes. Wow these themes

Of course Ken is more interesting. He has slightly more backstory than "trained under Gouken then beat up Sagat".

It should have been Alex or Ken. Current SF champ or the shoto GOAT

Since when was it exclusive? I had it on the Mega Drive way back in the day. Hell I didn't even know a single person who owned it on the SNES.
It was exclusive for the SNES for over a year. Notice how the picture you posted says "Special Championship Edition" at the bottom. That was a later edition. The base edition of SFII sold 12 million on SNES alone. Just because your friends all had Sonic backpacks doesn't mean SFII wasn't a hugely important game for Nintendo and was one of their major exclusives at the time.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
I honestly feel like they should wait for the next console for Inkling, to fully flesh out their gimmick and not be constrained by the handheld/console parity.

Its really not that big of a deal.
I just thought it was more fun to have those alts.
Its really trivial, nothing more than a small detail. But had so many posters going into "but, but, but..." that trying to answer them it seem it was bigger than what i really thought (did bad trying to defend me for what it looks).
I really like Ryu's inclusion, its just I would have prefered more fun alts, thats all :(

You should have said so in your first post though, since it looked so dramatic.

Am I the only one who hopes there never is a smash 5 and they just keep updating and balancing this game? Maybe there's a reason this installment is just called "Super Smash Bros."

Unfortunately, if the two Rhythm Heaven songs are indeed for the Miiverse stage then we probably aren't going to get the Chorus Kids. Getting the Chorus Kids would also mean getting a Rhythm Heaven stage, in which case Rhythm Heaven music wouldn't have been added to Miiverse.

RH music on Miiverse = no Chorus Kids
RH music prematurely patched in like leaked Roy/Ryu/Kirby audio = probable Chorus Kids
Isn't the Mario Paint medley presumably in the Miiverse stage as well?

I am happy with all of this. Just give me Wolf now and I'm ready to bring on the new and wild with the Ballot characters.

I just hope I don't end up feeling too gouged at $5 a character. That's a bit steep for someone like Roy.

Delicious salt. Ryu or Ken over Mega Man any single day.

Why does there need to be salt at all? Why do people have to make this a competition? We have both Mega Man and Ryu - two of the most iconic video game characters of all time, and definitely Capcom's two biggest icons - together in Smash now. I would argue that Mega Man is the more iconic of the two by a comfortable margin, but whether he is or isn't, why does it matter? Mario, Pac-Man, and arguably Sonic are more iconic than both Mega Man and Ryu, but it doesn't fucking matter because they're all fan-favorite gaming icons and they're all in Smash Bros. together and oh my god this is every childhood gaming dream come true and why/how are people finding ways to be salty about this.
