Roy (our boy) & Ryu confirmed for Smash Bros

Probably because SF doesn't feel like a nintendo game anymore. Feels more Xbox/Playstation/PC.

Its not Capcoms fault that nintendos hardware always seems to be doing its on thing. I really hope the NX combines the eccentricities of nintendo with the desired hardware of third party pubs so we can see games like SF back on a nintendo platform. A system like that would be the only system Id need.

I mean, we're still doing this dance, ten years after Snake?

Yeah snake was odd but his moves suited the game, it was a funny implementation.

This is like dropping a piranha in a goldfish tank. Maybe the piranha has had its teeth smoothed out a bit.

I think people who play smash seriously as a fighter (as opposed to a party brawler) would like the addition though.

something tells me Ryu's gonna be the new Mac. People think he's shit the first day, god tier the following week, shit again for the rest of the game's life cycle.

It applied to Snake as well.

And people got over it, because it was lame to keep crying over it, especially when Snake ended up being a unique and enjoyable fighter in the end. And it applies 10x to Snake. Ryu makes way more sense as an inclusion to Smash, especially given that the theme behind this one's 3rd party inclusion seem to be 'retro progenitors', and Ryu can stand right alongside Mega Man, Pac Man, and Sonic there.

Ryu doesn't seem like a good matchup for this...seems pretty forced for marketing. Not as bad as mercedes in mario kart at least.

Was SF even on the WiiU? I guess there was some 3DS game.

A SF has been on almost every Nintendo console and Handheld. It was a major Snes system seller, Wii got an exclusive SF (one of the best) and many SF's are on the virtual console for Wii U.

Again, it's not just about the present. Pac-Man and Mega Man aren't in Smash Bros. because they're super relevant to Nintendo in 2015 -- they're gaming icons with historical links to Nintendo, just like Ryu.

Ryu fits in more than snake though(love snake). Heck mario's moveset over the years is essentially ryu lite lol

I'm still holding out on smash. This does make me more interested as I want to see how he fits in, but I would have preferred a well done cute pokemon or something I think. Just so it fits what I think of smash more (party brawler, not serious fighter). Though as others have mentioned, they have some too serious characters anyway.

This kind of thinking would prevent smash from grabbing more players. I've said before only reason I even got into smash and Nintendo was because of snakes inclusion in brawl. With the rules and ideals fans try to push on smash I'm kind of glad sakurai does his own thing. Can't imagine where we would be at with smash with regular character selection. Oh nice another safe character as opposed to something that shakes things up.

I'm also curious at to what the pricing of this all will be.
Stages are going to be the most interesting. I hope they're maybe $2 at the most, then if you want both systems, $3. Kind of was hoping maybe $1.50 for one, then $2 for both, but I highly doubt that.

I kind of hope at this rate, with 3 characters possibly coming out on the same day, we'll get a bundle, but looking at the bundle for the first set of Mii Fighter outfits, you won't actually save money buying them all together (though still saving money if you buy both instead of separate systems).

And has absolutely nothing to do with Nintendo. How are fans okay with this spot not being one of Nintendo's iconic characters? Does Nintendo not have a fighting game character they could have added?
This isn't true. He created fighting games, and SF2 was one of the biggest SNES games. None of the 3rd parties have anything to do with Nintendo lol

Also to that last part, no! Nintendo's only fighting games is Smash, which was inspired by Street Fighter (Ryu's game)

Hey, remember how songs had to be less than 2 minutes?

Well that doesn't apply to Fountain of Dreams, thank god.

Just listened to the rip, and it's identical to Melee.

Street Fighter is responsible for Smash even existing.
So next is the pong paddle sprite? I'm sorry, its just my personal opinion, I adore smash brothers because of its love of Nintendo's legacy, and these reveals are usually followed by me having to look up the characters history in Nintendo's pantheon and discussing how true to the characters origin the new models are.. now they are going the Sony smash brothers route of just having characters from where ever to both advertize other games and fill out its roster.

fair enough, although it was on everything, even the Atari 2600 somehow.

But it sold way more on the SNES, to the point where it's one of the best selling games in history, and the best selling version of any street fighter game.

And we do have a pong paddle! You can't make this shit up lol

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. As much as Ryu deserves a place and all, it's pretty frustrating that the first DLC newcomer isn't even a Nintendo character when there are still plenty of Nintendo franchises that aren't even represented by stage yet, from Rhythm Heaven to Wonderful 101 to Chibi-Robo.

Guy from stealth game = fits in fighting game

Guy from fighting game = does not fit in fighting game that already has a boxer in it

Ok.

Hahaha this is getting sad.
