I think this announcement is highly unlikely since they are pushing and releasing FF XV soon(ish).

Many potential buyers of XV would probably hold off for the VII remake.

OK, so can someone link that post again?

Can't give my word on the crazy Shenmue rumours but the FF VII remake is a real thing. They started production a few months ago and it will be announced this week for a 2017 release.

The Last Guardian is coming back too, Sony PR guys are giving appointments to the press and they plan to release it during the holiday season since Uncharted 4 is delayed until 2016.

Looking back at Miruhoggu's 19 other posts, he seems to know things...

Looks like he had info about Terra Battle before it came around. That post was from about a week before the game was announced.

Asking again–Why would Square give this to Sony to reveal, instead of revealing at their own show? To get people to watch their show?

They could split some of the details between the two, e.g., a small trailer at the Sony conference followed by more information/clarification at the SE event.

So this is why Nomura got pulled away from FFXIV.

Wasn't really excited about this until I misread the thread title as "Siliconeera says Square Enix is remaking Final Fantasy VI on PS4" and now i'm disappointed.

For the sake of discussion;

Sephzilla's top things he'd want from an FF7 remake
  • Updated higher res static backgrounds
  • Updated character models - doesn't need to look FF15 tier
  • Newly updated pre-rendered cutscenes, perhaps recycling a lot of Advent Children assets
  • Recomposed musical score
  • Optional side content, like maybe a non-canon "save Aeris" quest
  • Crisis Core HD included

They could split some of the details between the two, e.g., a small trailer at the Sony conference and more information/clarification at the SE event.

To be fair, that IS how FFXIV (1.0) was revealed -- though SE had a closed-door panel afterward instead of a full conference.

Cautiously boarding the hype train but I'm keeping my hand near the open door button so I can get off quickly if needed.

Have any insiders, including the latest ITT, actually said this is a PS4 exclusive or Sony are involved somehow? Or is that just a presumption?

If this is true I feel like it'll take all the focus away from XV. Wouldn't they release pretty close to each other as well?

Personally I would be expecting a remaster-esque remake by someone like Virtuos.

Higher resolution backgrounds with much newer looking character and enemy models, but nothing resembling something Ike Final Fantasy XV.

Well, if you're hinting at something here: I must admit I wouldn't really be excited about a mid-scale remake like you described. It's not like I want to actually play the remake that much, as I still love the quirky original from the bottom of my heart. I'm just excited for the hype that would surround a full-scale FFXV-fidelity remake.
Verendus said it would be AAA, though, so hmm...

Key thought:

- If this is legit, no way is it a large scale "total" remake. They have too much on their plate right now to allocate the time and resources to rebuild the game. We will have to settle for what looks like a high quality texture mod, with minor gameplay tweaks. Corners must be cut.
This is probably what's going to happen, assuming that it does happen.

I'm okay with that. I'm one of those guys that think a full scale, modernized FFVII remake would be a disaster.

I wouldn't put it past them to announce it at Sony's conference and promise more details at their own to get more people to watch it. If it's true at all.

lol, imagine if it's Microsoft that has dropped the money to fund a FFVII Remake as an Xbone exclusive.

That thread would make the FFXIII multi-plat reveal ('the age of Sony is done') look like a McDonald's ball pit in comparison. My god I'd laugh myself into blackout state.

Don't setup yourself thinking it's going to be FFXV esque quality

How about voice acting? And some added new cutscenes?

That's a lot of dialogue to add, unless you just do VA for the main cast and then leave everything else as text. CG cut scenes would be simple to add in, like for intros into cites and areas, boss fights...things like that.

All speculation, but if they plan on getting this out in two years and have only started production, then concessions will end up being made here and there.

You mean with ATB? Presumably a remake wouldn't mess with that too much.

On the other hand, unless it was remade to still be static backgrounds with models moving in front of them, I suspect the moment-to-moment movement through the world would have be done more like a modern game, which might mean changes to the combat as well.

In my fantasy scenario, the entire game would be remade in full 3D just like it was a brand new title.
I could see them having enemies in the environment and have a Chrono Trigger esque seamless transition to battles (still atb) as a way to modernize it but stay true to the original.

Waitm so SE might have actually listened to their fans? Amazing/

Also, it true about TLG, it would make sense they moved UC4 to after the new year. Why make it compete against all teh other 3rd party titles coming out when it can hold it's own spotlight in Feb.

Ok, I'm leaving the gaming side again... no more things spoiled until tonight....

GAF BETTER STAY UP DAMMIT!

THIS would melt GAF in such a way that not even a triple punch of TLG/Shenmue/HL3 would match it.
