Media Create Sales: Week 23, 2015 (Jun 1 - Jun 7)

Comes out June 18, so it's looking to be a bomb.

What would define a bomb in this case? It will sell less than Harvest Moon, sure, but it is also a revival of an old IP. 120k should be a good outcome.

Extreme Butouden overperforming in COMG! while it will bomb anyway. There hasn't been good comments about the game, so the game will underperform a lot.

The anime should help its sales even if it's not that good. Ultimate Mission 2 reappeared in the chart a few weeks ago.

Don't get me wrong. I mean, it will do good enough within its context, but there has been bad feedback about the game. Furthermore, Hiska wrote about some retailers reported slow sales for the game.

Possibly we will notice a drop in its second week, maybe.

what about this bad feedback, on amazon.jp or somewhere else ?
what happened ? is that game the 2D vs. fighting one ?

Splatoon is spreading more and more. People are recommended by friends to buy the game.
Some people will use their bonus payment to buy it.

The main users are 20 years old, and the reason to purchase the game is because it's fun.

There's no stock left for the game, so some people are just buying Wii U hardware, and later they'll buy the game.

Splatoon is having a crazy effect.

So.. Splatoon doing even more crazy work in Japan. Nice.

As for something random. The Squid sisters seem to getting more and more popular after the splatfest.
Even more fanart of them than usual. Japan loving their squid idols.

Hell yeah!

After the minecraft succes, how do people here estimate the success chances of Super Mario Maker in Japan by the way?

Mario maker will be a huge flop, Japan will be too busy still buying splatoon to even notice its release

I'm only half joking, though Mario maker will sell massively

Once again I have to ask what Nintendo can do to convert the positive momentum started by Splatoon into medium-term success given the currently known barren release lineup of the Wii U.

Cut the WiiU price... feed off that and older games for a bit.

Thats about it. They cant make games materialize out of nowhere and Sony has all other devs in their pocket who haven't completely fled to mobile or handhelds.

So, with the recent announcements what's the outlook for the PS4 in Japan now.

PS3 never got a mainline FF game+ Biggest FF remake + A proper KH games and quite possibly a mainline Dragon Quest game.

Its outselling the WiiU without a doubt, now just how high can it go?

So we aren't counting FF13 as mainline anymore?

Maybe it'll reach the Vita.

1. No Splatoon Amiibos anywhere I checked (and believe me I'm looking).

2. Copies of Splatoon at only 2 stores (Aeon Mall and Youme Town). So it is more supply constrained in my town than last week.

3. Restock of WiiU hardware is happening at some stores (this is possibly big news, a lot of shops have been sitting on dusty hardware a long time).

4. New 3DS is not moving very well. And most shops still have the Old 3DS's they are trying to unload.

5. 3 stores have put copies of Minecraft next to the vita hardware units on the selves rather than with the old releases. Makes sense.

6. Bomba Update: Can find new copies of Bravely Second for 2400yen and Senran Kagura 2 for 1400yen. Used even cheaper. Strong demand constraints.

None of these games will exist until 2017+... so, for the time being, nothing has changed on its outlook.

PS3 got both FFXIII and FFXV.

Btw, those games will affect hardware in 2016-2017 but this year line-up still looks a bit scarce.

Nice to read that.

Of course, Splatoon won't become the next big thing, but it's interesting to see how Nintendo can still generate some buzz out of nowhere, i.e. with an IP in an unproven genre for the company.

The fact that it's moving hardware is of course the most positive aspect.

Why would you cut the Wii U price when it has now been shown that consumers will happily buy a Wii U for Splatoon at its current price?

I keep thinking Nintendo should do a marketing relaunch for its back catalogue. Maybe also create new DLC and include it with newly sold copies?

You asked how to maintain momentum. Its all they have as an option as the Splatoon momentum dies down over time. Good as the WiiUs catalog is on a title per title basis, it lacks breadth and I don't think a "relaunch" will work all that well when it failed to begin with. MK8 and Smash are the big other games and they will (and have) pick up sales from this momentum right now. People know they exist.

Short of magically pulling games out of the aether, I don't know what they can do.

If I were Nintendo I would just try to take advantage of the Splatoon ip through other venues and then release a sequel for the NX.

Oh I agree on a trans-media campaign, and that's already in the works from the looks and sounds of it.

What I am talking about here is for the gaming side with the WiiU. :p This is as close as the system will get to having "its pokemon" (for Japan), might as well make the best of it and push more console/software sales. If the landscape hadn't been so barren, and had some other publishers had games coming here or there to fill in the gaps, you could have taken an event like this pretty far with good marketing and media plays.

Its not every day that a franchise comes along and sustains sales and moves hardware on the lone basis of "fun".

OMG! Vinnk's Village is back! I missed those!

So Splatoon is showing legs and selling hardware. Good news for Nintendo!

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Splatoon seemingly doing some damn fine work, it seems. No hints from the usual blog? Last week, they were early.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Damn...thats cold xD

Thanks for the updates as always - great to see Splatoon doing well, gotta hand it to Nintendo they know how to develop these IPs with Universal appeal.

Wow...didnt expect that kind of demand for Rhytm Heaven on 3DS.

Splatoon 2 should be huge, and I better get a more robust local multiplayer experience in the sequel.

Yeah, I fully expect Splatoon to become quite a popular Nintendo franchise in the near future.

I am hoping it joins the ranks of Mario, Zelda, Kart, Smash, Pokemon, and Animal Crossing. After so many years, having fresh blood amongst those ranks will be pretty awesome! Also, I feel that Luigi's Mansion is another franchise that is really popular nowadays, and has lots of potential with sequels.

lol

I think Nintendo killed all of its own (small) momentum with that E3... >.> You can really tell how badly the WiiU is doing when it seems fairly evident that "big" games are gone and everything, even the successful Splatoon, was a small pet project. The AC project looks very light, and outside of Mario Maker and Yoshi, there's like two or so games left for all of 2016, lol.

As a consumer looking in, you'd have to wonder what reason you'd want to buy the system at all aside from what already exists and that, seemingly, has never been very motivating. I was off-put by Sony's presser showing/hyping things 2017+ and next to nothing immediate outside of third parties, but they at least have built up future interests.

Then again, I guess there's only so much you can do with a dead platform and all alone.
