Square made a LOT of money with Final Fantasy 15 and FF: The Record Keeper this past year. I think they have a bit of cash to burn for investments like bigger teams.

INFINITE IN MYSTERY IS THE GIFT OF THE GODDESS WE SEE IT THUS AND TAKE TO THE SKY, RIPPLES FORM ON THE WATERS SURFACE, THE WANDERING SOUL KNOWS NO REST!

HYPE TRAIN!!!

Long ago we looked up an foreboding sky.
The memory of a star that threatened all, burns eternal in our hearts.

In its wake, came an age of silence.
Yet with each fond remembrance, we knew. Those encountered were not forgotten.

That some day we would see them again. Perhaps it was no more than wishful thinking.
But after the long calm, there are now the beginnings of a stir.

The reunion at hand will bring joy. It may bring fear.
But let us embrace whatever it brings.

For they are coming back.
At last. The promise has been made.

i have a hunch this is more of a "re-imagining" rather than a remake. i expect a lot of... interesting reactions... once they show more

personally i was hoping they'd remake V and VI proper and then move onto VII... though fan demand was so high i know that was never realistic

So let's be real here:

According to a GAF post earlier today, this game has only been in development for a few months. They're shooting for 2017, which makes sense since that's the game's 20th anniversary. This is supported by the fact that, realistically, they wouldn't have pulled the PSX troll if this was in development at that time.

Therefore... the most likely origin story for this game is that, after PSX, Sony sat Squeenix down and gave what my mom would call the "come to Jesus" talk- "Look... it's time. You need to do this fucking remake. Just take this money, promise we get it first, and do it."

I can't believe this has happened. I've never been so excited for a game reveal, although TLG was close and bizarrely during the same conference!

Still shocked.

"It's gotta be a movie or something."

"REMAKE"

OHHHHHHHH

STOOLS TIPPED ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING

"THIS IS THE BEST CONFERENCE THERE'S EVER BEEN!"

Yup. My reaction. And coming directly after TLG and Horizon, there was no room to breathe.

Sounds about right.

Verendus talked about this in 2013.

I sincerely doubt it's only "a few months into development". Now I wonder if we get more info @/after Square's event tomorrow.
Keep in mind- S-E hasn't had their own E3 Conference since 2006.

Also, one key thing to note. They are using pre-FFVII Compilation Buster Sword design.

This is the Compilation Buster Sword design:

552794183566E0000D

And this is the original Buster Sword design, before the Compilation:

5527941A3578000002

This same design is being used in Dissidia.

So, they're staying faithful to the original designs for the remake and seem to be pushing aside the Compilation, at least for this.

Really? Huh.

Why is Sony so easy going about PC? Is it hardball from publishers or does Sony just consider PC to not be in direct competition?

Yeah, what I figured but kinda weird. Probably an actual wait between the versions though this time unlike with SFV, I wonder if that was the best they could get before PC.

So why would Squenix announce the crappy PS4 port of the PC port of the PS1 original last year, when they were working on a fully fledged remake?

i'll poop on the party with my legendary skepticism before i go to bed.

i'm super cautious for that. First when you think about it, PS3 reveal had some sort of target render that was actually more advanced than that (actual characters etc..). This is purely a super vague teaser, super pretty.. No release date and a colossal 3 disc game with tons of hd towns, monsters, cinematics etc.. to redo with this quality ?

i'm not saying it's not happening, i'm saying.. i'll stay cautious. We've seen things at E3, we've seen promises, we've seen vapor.. If i hear the dev is well advanced and all, well ok. But if this is the kind of "hey guys, we've just decided to do that, we wanted to let you know, happy ?" announcement. Who knows..

Still i got some chills on the moment!

Hopefully we get some details tomorrow. This is inevitably going to be a massive disappointment for a lot of people depending on what direction they go with it.
