nah its a remake with tons of resources thrown at it.

Its an opportunity to be creative and imaginative with what new technology brings beyond more polygons and bigger textures.

I wonder how Lightning will be included in the story. Maybe she is Aeris.

ATB or not, there's no FF game that slow like that since FFIX anyway, its sounds odd to read this repeated post from you.
Huh?
Some people seem to want the same game but with prettier graphics. I just say they can easily do significantly better than that with just minor tweaks.

I can't wrap my head around how modern Square is going to handle this remake. There gonna have to cut corners make the game much more linear, delete areas, and NPCs right?

If they plan to do this properly then this will be the biggest project modern Square has ever undertaken. I'm expecting something on the caliber of that FF7 PS3 demo and Resident Evil Remake.

Haha, certainly.

As has been said already, this is a no-win scenario in some respects. In fact, the inability to make everyone happy no matter what routes they take with this project has been cited time and again as one of the main reasons it was seemingly never going to happen.

I'm lucky -- I don't much care whether they stay traditional or go action-based. I do care how they handle the flow of the narrative though. FFVII isn't my second favorite video game ever because I really, really like chocobos. (I really, really like chocobos, though.)

Yeah. I'm the same way. I'd pick Action-RPG if I had the choice but I'm fine with them doing Turn-Based as long as it's done in an exciting and visceral way. Like X-2 on steroids.

I wish more people could take the reasonable mentality about it because it's gonna be a real bummer to have people flaming in when there's any discussion about the game.

Seeing that Nomura is THE major action RPG creator at SE.

Its probably going to be action RPG ,and that's what it needs to be.

ATB was invented with purpose of being fast paced and action~like. It did that within the constraints of the older system.

That's basically my thinking as well.

If they do go Turn-Based, fine, but the gameplay outside of combat needs to be very sharp and fun to move around with. I want to enjoy exploring VII's world with these characters.

I hope they do remake the whole combat system.
They need to make it faster or make it like FF12 gambit system with free roaming.
I will take FF13 system as well, and in the best case scenario, FF: LR gameplay.

ATB turn-based system still hold a lot potential even for scripted triggered scene with mega focus and effort behind it, I don't think switch to ARPG is very necessary even if they want made it flashier and faster.

Being on a grand adventure with cloud, barret, tifa etc. will be like reliving your childhood regardless of how 1:1 the remake is

FF Type-0 did not sell AT ALL on xbone. If FF15 doesnt magically take off in sales there wont be anymore FF releases on xbone.

That said they probably want to do pc ports because there is at least some market there..

I did my part, but it seems most of Xbox fans just like shooting games which is sad.

I bought FFXIII entire saga on my 360 and will buy XV on Xbox One.

I know I might play the inferior version, but i just want to play good games on my favorite console. Yup, I am stupid fanboy:)

God bless FFXV will sell at least over 1 millions copies on Xbox One.

I honestly think that if they did just make it PS4 exclusive, people who wanted to play this who did not own a PS4 would totally buy one; so I'm not sure they'd really be losing out on too much revenue. this is a system seller.

What a massive undertaking this is, I'm just thinking about summons, evironments, movies etc. I hope they have a real good plan on how to tackle this. It's a really big game, and expectations will be through the roof.

Excellent news. Didn't see this coming, but I am dreading when its going out. 2019-2020 at the earliest.

According to this miraculous post (which was spot on), it'll be released in 2017.

They only have like 2-3 years.
It'd be better if we keep our expectation low.

I would rather have full control over everyone. Gambit system doesn't allow that.

I hope they stick with turn based but speed it up and add new elements to it...make it play more modern and seamless.

Final Fantasy 7 isn't such a complex game, if you look at the core of it. It's actually very linear, until you get the airship and revisit old places and a few new. But even then, there are just a bunch of small Side-Quests. I wonder more about the many mini-games:

Nope. I want an exact remake. Combat is still fine.

You don't see anyone complaining about Wasteland 2 or Stick of Truth or Xcom.

They are basically skipping FF5 and FF6 remakes now, two of my favourite entries, so I am on the express train to frown town. Not entirely unexpected though. FF7 is a wildly more popular entry, and it is probably one of the entries that could benefit of an update the most. The original looks like Duplo characters green-screened onto backdrops from Beast Wars, and bordered on illiterate at times.

I wonder how they are going to do it now, since all we got was yet another cinematic trailer that tells us nothing about the game. Could it be possible that they are going to go down the fixed camera angle route again? It would help speed up the remake up quite significantly, and keep the design and direction in-tact.

Let's all just hope this isn't another case of announcing a game way before you have any idea how to finish developing it, a la Versus.
I mean, this isn't XIII. It's a real ps1 jrpg. There's so much content that needs to be redone that all the sidequests and minigames might take as long to make as the entirety of XIII did ( slightly exaggerating...maybe).
Just the amount of locations...I have trouble imagining how thisll all end. But goddamn am i hyped.

Wasteland 2 and XCOM are bad examples, on consoles they are more comparable to SRPGs than JRPGs.

Stick of Truth is a lot faster and more streamlined than FF7.

I wouldn't mind them sticking with ATB at all, but they need to make it as responsive as FFX-2 at least (and give us a way to skip summons).

Wouldn't it be interesting if they just rolled Before Crisis, Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core, and Advent Children into FF7 as sidequests and the like?

ff5 and 6 still hold up because of their pixel aesthetic. a remake for 7 is far more necessary.

and i feel that they showed it this year early to fill time for playstation's conference, thus a trailer is all we get. it's still many years off

This is the one time where a remake would benefit from expanded side-quests, even if they're DLC. I just finished the game for the first time this year and loved the Midgar exploration (what little of it there was) and wanted more of it. A next-gen Midgar that allows you to visit some of the other unseen sectors later on in the game or buy different/rare equipment would be icing on the cake.

yeeep agreed.

But they must fine a way to make us control the entire party on the fly.

No compromises in that element for FF7.No automated gambit stuff like in FFXV.

She'll get what's coming to her for dressing like that :D

Oh god imagine!
This is how we save Aerith! Lightning makes a cameo, she's dressed like Aerith because of dress-up and then Sephiroth kills her instead! We get to keep Aerith AND no more Lightning-chan.

I think, it is going to be a very different game than what the original was.

The chasm between generations is now huge. What was once groundbreaking in FFVII, now will seem like a hassle and might even disappoint new people coming to the game.

Random encounters were great back then, but now not a lot of people will like it, as is with the entire battle system actually.

I honestly dont know how they will pull it off. It is the main reason I wasnt all that thrilled ever when remake rumors were surfacing.

Its a lose-lose situation as I see it.

SE can simply decide to improve the graphics, add a voice cast, and leave the experience intact as it was when the original was released.

Opting that route will make fans very happy. But at the same time it will make newcomers (and its been 20 years, there is a ton of newcomers) cringe with the 20 year old gameplay it will have.

Then there is the other route, that demands making huge changes overall and try to make a complete overhaul. Meaning new battle system, getting rid of old stuff while adding new, and generally "modernize" the FFVII experience.

Opting this route might give them better chances with newcomers but will probably cause a shitstorm from angry hardcore fans of the original.

Can anyone think how they can pull it off having both sides happy?

Yeah man, the PS1 versions have not held up in any way shape or form. The worst of the worst. I really want to play this.

They simply can't keep the combat the same. ATB is fine but it /needs/ refinement.

I hope they keep all the humorous parts in.

Materia is. GOAT.

Going to murder Ruby weapon.

Nah. FFVII should just be FFVII. Nobody likes Genesis, Angeal and the few other silver haired guys in Advent Children. Pretend the compilation never happens.

So is this trailer all we have right now?

Getting the vibe they're going for the "real(ish)" look of all the spinoff rubbish, which is a shame. I was kinda hoping for something cel shaded and closer to the portraits

Lol as if they were ever going to go cel shaded. Most people think of FFVII having a realistic aesthetic because of the backgrounds and CG.
