the original tech demo from 2006 has 8 mio views...i wonder if this can top that.
Is the FF7 Effect still as huge as 10 years ago?

I hope they don't include a quest to revive Aeris. It would hurt the overall story and the impact of her death.

I'm not sure why I'm spoilering this but whatever. I think it would be neat if they included non-canon additional stuff that you as a player can enable or disable depending on if you want to play the original story or not

Didn't Verendus has been teasing this for years?
I don't think the idea of the remake happened in mere months. It's true that the PC port announcement was weird though.

I thought that they said they just started working on it. I'm not saying that Verendus is a liar, but it's not that hard to predict something that everyone already wants. The PC port announcement timing is telling enough for me.

Idk, maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like there's no way you'd have a huge PSX event and not announce the Remake there. If they'd been planning it for years, why not show it there? Just doesn't add up.

Oh, I missed this? It looks nice, but of course, it pretty much had to.

I do hope ATB returns. Haven't had a proper new ATB Final Fantasy game since X-2, which did it awesomely, so let's see what a full party control ATB system will look like now. If it doesn't have full party control, it's just not Final Fantasy 7.

the way boyes announces it "by popular demand", kind of implies sony had a hand in its creation. So I dont think it will be releasing on anything else but PC. Could be wrong though.

I don't know what changes they'll make to the combat system, story or magic system but I know one thing for sure. The music is guaranteed to be amazing.

Nope it should use Type-0 combat because it was so great. /s
Or maybe only let me control 1-2 characters inputs so I can lament how boring ATB is. If anything they should make a hard mode version of the game for advanced players. I think the problem with ATB stems from the overall difficulty of the games. They are piss easy. You can mash X or O and win. It only shines when the game gets hard.

I'm not against them increasing the difficulty of battles, as long as they don't change the underlying system. Otherwise they can tweak it and "modernize" it any way they like. I just want to keep turn based combat.

They won't.

They'll include a quest to revive AERITH. Because that's apparently her ridiculous canon name.

The trailer made it seem like it was gonna be a sequel according the voice over. But he was referring to the remake itself!

So is the PC port still coming or what? I hope they just release it tonight.

I'm putting my faith in Nomura. Don't fuck this up, man. Shelve KH3 for a few years if you have to.

Worried he might make it overly serious like Advent Children. Hopefully they can retain the goofiness and charm of FF7.
Please make Cloud crossdress.

Every battle system SE has done since dumping the old ATB has been better. Basically, as long as they use anything *BUT* the same system, it'd be an improvement, IMO.

No way. Nearly every one of those battle systems have been worse. Not only that, but they're responsible for the death of the vaunted "Final Fantasy feel" that everyone laments losing from the old titles.

You want one of those systems, go play a different game. There are plenty to choose from.

There's nothing wrong with, or outdated about, turn based combat. Bravely Default showed that not only can it still work and be improved, but there's still a market for it as well.

I wonder if they will truly overhaul everything about this game...traversal, FF-XV style combat?

I have faith. The VO for the trailer is so meta, we all have to listen to it and believe in the words.

Wasn't there a rumour that the original plan was to include a way to save you know who, but time constraints prevented it?

If true, think they might include it?

I wouldn't want that. That was one of the most powerful scenes in gaming. Especially with what happens in Crisis Core.

They're not going to do this. I realize that people have little faith in SE these days, but they're not insane. As a matter of fact, their track record for remaking FF is actually very good.

Wait, are people really expecting this to be on X1? There's no way. Here's what I'm very sure happened.

-PSX: Square gives people what they think they want. "FF7 PC version coming to PS4!"
-People riot.
-Sony gets nervous, knows they fucked up.
-Sony goes to Square and says, "We'll help fund this project."
-E3 Remake announcement.

I'm sure this is what happened, so PS4 and PC only.

lol no

This has been in planning for some time. FF7 port was a troll. Hashimoto knew all along.

I kind of wish they would consider including the events of Advent Children in the remake as a complete story. Because it would work flawlessly as RPG post-game content.

The final battle in the crater rolls the credits.

The post-game allows you to wander around the world as Cloud and see the fallout, while re-collecting party members and fighting you-know-who as an optional final-final boss.

CTB, ATB Kai, and ADB are all better than Classic ATB.

Regarding Aerith, I'd be down for having her limit breaks rarely and randomly happen mid-battle when you're in trouble.

Some of the people here are demanding regressions in gameplay.

Why would you want a random battle system? Shit has been antiquated for the longest time.

Hopefully this isn't a 1 to 1 adaptation and SE takes the chance to improve or fix whatever they want instead of being shackled to a purist view. If you want the old game so bad, play the old game.

Just for fun, here's some exclusive content Xbox got, while Sony was given the shaft. BIG mistakes were made last gen, which I'm sure will not be repeated.

Lost Odyssey - Xbox 360 - 890k
Last Remnant - Xbox 360 - 670k
Infinite Undiscovery - Xbox 360 - 670k

Not terrible sales here, but certainly don't justify the development expense, and the exclusive status.

Ouch, that must have hurt the jrpg fans that didn't had a x360 and the games themselves which sold poorly.

It's odd that you mention their track record in remaking FFs when it comes to this specific question, because of what they did to FF4 starting with the GBA release. :p

You can revive almost everyone who died and use them on your final team.

I hope we get a completely new combat system. Keep materia, limit breaks and summons obviously, but I'd love to see the game go down the action RPG/Kingdom Hearts-style route, or even as a full party-based action game where you can swap characters in real time.

Imagine if FF7 was a brand new game being developed today - how would it play? That's how I would approach it. A remake gives all sorts of new opportunities and it would be such a waste to have them squander it on the old ATB or turn-based systems for the sake of nostalgia.

Yeah at the very least enemies need to be encountered and fought on the field screen, not in a separate battle screen with its own special music.

Hmm yeah, Battle system could be very tricky. Will they opt for new battle system and make it accessible to the younger gen (at the risk of angering the existing fanbase) or stick with atb and alienating the younger gen. Let's face it, atb is a bit slow and might not bode well with younger people.

I say speed up the ATB, keep it turn based, but make it flashy and "cinematic" for the animation, like Cloud physically runs up to the baddie and slashes him, backflips or whatever and then stands where he is. Not like a lineup where they just swing a sword and a slash mark goes across the enemy. That way people with ADD are happy that flashy action is going on, but I get to keep my sweet sweet turn based combat.

Or else just keep it turned based.

I just don't want ARPG combat. Not for this.

I don't think people are pining for random battles as much as they are turn based ones. Turn based RPGS still come out yearly (especially on 3DS and Vita), so I think a fast paced improvement on the old style wouldn't be a regression, it would be an evolution.

I hope they talk a little bit about the direction of the game at their presser. After the euphoria of the reveal wore off I'm a little worried that this game is going to be a new FF game with the cast of FFVII... I just want a nice looking remake of the original game.
