Next year will be a stage show, opening with a public execution. Iwata walks out with a shotgun, blows off someone's head, covers himself in their blood and screams at the audience.

"ARE WE TAKING THINGS SERIOUSLY ENOUGH YET?! HUH?!?!?!"

I think the biggest reason for the criticism is that most of the "big" titles have been shown in Nintendo directs before, such as the Xenoblade X, Mario Maker, and the FE games. Nintendo didn't have any big bombs to drop because they were announced earlier. There is less hype in one day but more spread across the year. I think I prefer it this way, but if they find a way to make E3 even more hype without sacrificing the directs' hype, I'm all for it.

Zelda U will likely be shown in a direct before next E3, and people will likely say that E3 wasn't hype.

...when the NX is released
I don't think they are going to announce and release it the same year, but who knows.

Anyways, wake me up when the next handheld is release. I am done with Nintendo home consoles, they are just not worth it.

they gutted Metroid and killed Paper Mario in one go

of course people are going to be pissed when 20 minutes of their E3 presentation is developer story shit

Wait, only got finished watching the keynote delayed with no spoilers with my roomie mere minutes ago. People think it sucked?!?!

We got a new Starfox, and amazing new console take on Animal crossing, and a Paper Mario and Luigi game, and it ended with Super Mario Maker, plus we are getting a new Zelda this year.

Am I in bizarro world right now?

So, I missed the event. What happened?

Star Fox has gamecube graphics
a handful of lackluster new games announced (multiplayer 3DS Zelda, mulitplayer 3DS Metroid Prime, Mario & Luigi Paper, Animal Crossing amiibo party, and Mario Tennis Wii U)
amiibos amiibos amiibos.
that was about it.

They were about to redeem themselves when I saw an Animal Crossing village, then the life drained from me when my heart was impaled by fucking Mario Party.

Next year could very well be live since Iwata mentioned coming to E3 when a new console is revealed.

Why not? We got the PS4 and X1 both within the years they were unveiled.

I know this is an unpopular opinion....

But I don't think it was as much of a disaster as everyone is saying.

There's some awesome games coming out in the next 6-9 months for Wii U and 3DS.

All this while obviously prepping 2 new platforms.

They could have blown everyone's minds and announced stuff that will be out for NX in 2017 or whatever, but stuck to what is realistically being released soon. It's not like NX is not getting Zelda, Mario, etc. how much better would the conference really have been if they said "new metroid in 3 years" and showed a logo and nothing else?

Just saying... It wasn't an amazing conference but it wasn't terrible imo.

I hope Nintendo realizes that the Digital Event format is great. It was just the content that was severely lacking.

I'd rather them go back to the conference-style format. Crowd reactions add a lot to the experience. Ask Sony (or Nintendo in 2004).

I didn't think this direct was bad really, but it was too much like any other direct they did before. I would say the Wii U launch E3 in 2012 and 2008 we're much much worse.

For 2015 the Wii U has some great games coming, sadly looks like 2015 is it for the console, I can't see them releasing Zelda on Wii U at this point.

Really surprising that he felt compelled to say this. Goes to show he was disappointed himself with the delivery this year. Interesting.

This is the first E3 I skipped out on (work has been so busy), so I suppose I'll visit the conferences later to get a feel for how poorly they performed.

Nintendo sold me on a n3DS and then announced literally nothing to make me feel justified in my purchase. I handed them $200 for literally nothing. Shame on me, I guess. And shame on Nintendo for duping fans like this.

This will not change until leadership is replaced.

The old guard is trying to cling to archaic ideas in an already changed marketplace.

We will take it seriously....enough to take your money for the NX and let it die a death like the WiiU.

Seriously though, I do hope they rebound with the NX, and I really hope it is the console/handheld hybrid that's been bandied about, and is comparably powerful to other systems for the home part. Have that, plus a real account system where people don't have to buy the same game for the 100th time, and/or make virtual console robust with a subscription service a la EA Access but with the metric farkload of beloved games in Nintendo's back catalog.

Edit: How in the world DIDN'T they drop the WiiU price? That seemed like an elementary move at this point...

Honestly, this is a good year to suck. The pickings are slim, and Sony destroyed everyone anyways. Might as well regroup and come back strong next year with the NX reveal.

Poor Iwata. In truth, I don't think that any game they showed would have turned around the Wii U, and I don't blame them at all for moving the majority of their development resources to the NX.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
I didn't bother watching, but from the sound of this thread Nintendo failed hard at this E3?

It was a disaster on all fronts and this is big coming from me.

Messaging is really what killed their Digital Event.

Line-up is good/expected.

It feels like Nintendo has been a constant state of "please understand" and "we'll do better" mode for the last 3-4 years.

This is kinda what happens when you have Directs going all year long. Still pretty bullshit that we got a lot of padding with stuff that we already know about and that is coming out pretty soon, too.
