Damn, Nintendo really screwed up not announcing some more Splatoon content yesterday. That game has become a certifiable hit for them, and there was no reason not to devote some time to a new DLC announcement or the like.

There had been so much great momentum for the company going into this E3, which makes the complete failure of the Direct all the more hard to swallow.

PS4 is dropping quite low again, MGS V can't come soon enough.

Xbone just managing to not drop to double digit is quite fun :p

Splatoon holding well, obviously helping the Wii U too.

Rhythm Heaven with quite the huge start, considering how leggy this series is it's poised to finish with a very nice number.

The Wii U continues to hold up really well under Splatoon. Now I think it will be interesting to see if it can legitimately set up a higher baseline than it had before.

Okay, now Splatoon has officially done pretty well.

I think before this, one could only say Splatoon did pretty well given the current market for console games in Japan, and compared to even mediocre sales a decade ago this isn't very good. But now these legs indicate that it's doing pretty decently even without the "consoles are dead" caveats.

That assumes the legs don't just suddenly die next week, of course.

Yeah, not leveraging the Splatoon hype while everyone is watching is beyond my comprehension.

I don't think you can conclude anything from this week after a 5k drop. Honestly, I think we will be back to 6-7k by mid July. One game isn't enough to raise baseline sales. Wii U should have decent sized software every week or two for that.

Will the FFVII announcement boost PS4 sales next week? :p

I think the only time a game announcement actively boosted sale was when MH3G was announced for the 3DS. Usually they don't really directly boost hardware sales (but they give consumers more trust in the system which means when a game they want releases they're more likely to buy the system).

I think the only time a game announcement actively boosted sale was when MH3G was announced for the 3DS. Usually they don't really directly boost hardware sales (but they give consumers more trust in the system which means when a game they want releases they're more likely to buy the system).

Also, FF7R is presumably a 2017 title. People aren't going to go grab a system so that they can play a game they really want 2 years from now.

Well, they announced new weapons!
It's far too soon to announce new DLC. The game hasn't been out for a month, and the full disc content hasn't even been unlocked.
We'll probably hear about DLC in October or November.

Splatoon holding on its tentacles like a champion. Again with 80-100% sell through. Very nice show.

I hope the tentacles are not suddenly broken by the anti-hype from the Digital Event. Keep fighting little inkling!

The boost was due to advertising starting early in stores (the week after the announcement).

I don't think you can conclude anything from this week after a 5k drop. Honestly, I think we will be back to 6-7k by mid July. One game isn't enough to raise baseline sales. Wii U should have decent sized software every week or two for that.

I'm not concluding anything. I'm just saying that we'll have to wait and see if it can set up a higher baseline or not. You're probably right that it will drop back to the same level, but there's no way of knowing for sure right now.

For now we can just look at three weeks of pretty good sales around a higher number and note that Splatoon has given a more sustained boost than any other game did. I don't think it will last, but it's probably the most interesting trend to watch as far as hardware sales go right now.

Splatoon holds really well, and Wii U too.
Good debut for Rhythm heaven and decent week for the 3DS

Well then.

Splatoon is holding well. Rhythm Heaven did well. Trails sold better than I was expecting.

Vita seems to have hit the floor on sales for this year. PS4, sadly, not :(

Yeah of course, and knowing Square Enix, 2017 is being quite generous. They have a tendency to announce games way too early.

The famitsu ST is just for the inital shipment, not subsequent ones.

The general buying public (which is the target for a game like Splatoon) doesn't give a shit if crazed fanboys thought an E3 was underwhelming and are being overly emotive about it on the internet. If sales drops are steeper in the coming weeks it will be because the brunt of demands has been met.

Splatoon doing very well.

Hold on let me rub the crystal ball and see if it can tell me what the demand is like for a game which we know almost nothing about, in over two years without any idea of what the market situation might be at that time.

Mmmm

Mmmmmmmmmmmm

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The crystal ball says.... 7.

7 copies.....RIP FF

Trails in the Sky EVO only 20K? :(

67 PSV The Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki Evolution 25,856 / 49,000
83 PSV The Legend of Heroes: Ao no Kiseki Evolution 26,488 / 36,074

~ 5k drop doesn't seem to bad, although numbers were low anyway.

Still, I was expecting it, since it's been ported more (also on PS3, whereas Zero/Ao weren't). Also, weren't Zero/Ao when the series really exploded with popularity?

Splatoon is continuing to prove itself to be the smartest decision on Nintendo's part and while we didn't see any signs of similar undertakings this E3, I'm sure they're taking notes on how to approach future game development. I'm surprised that the Wii U is still holding. The success of this game alone feels like it'll be something of a wake-up call in the way Nintendo handles both development and marketing. I hope to see a sequel on the NX.

Also, great debut for Rhythm Heaven, I hope to see it come to the west soon. Solid week all around.
