They did that in a - very - stupid sequel, not in a remake. It's not like we'll turn on the game and have crossdressing Cloud dancing in front of President Shinra before blowing up the reactor.
Hehe

I actually hope we can keep the crossdressing outfit for the rest of the game. Will be especially fun in the realtime cutscenes dx

Has anyone checked this trailer analysis linked earlier?

http://thelifestream.net/news/final.../visual-breakdown-of-ffvii-remake-e3-trailer/

There's some really cool insight. I especially liked their theory of the Buster Sword.

tl;dr: They basically say that the Buster Sword featured in the trailer is actually the Compilation sword, but that the gilded part has been covered on purpose.

This, however, is all open to interpretation, but it makes perfect sense from a plot point of view because so much emphasis was placed on the sword in Crisis Core that any SOLDIER who had served with Zack or Angeal would recognise it instantly.

And now that I am looking at high res pics of the trailer, it DOES seem so.

Would be very very clever and interesting if so.

Any thoughts?

Can't wait for the next wave of "Kids at the play ground" video game rumors.

Hey guys this worked for me!

If you level up Phoenix Materia to the secret level 7, fight 777 battles, escape 777 battles. Then talk to the sleeping man in the cave 777 times, he will wake up and give you a Phoenix Wing which can revive Aeris.

I swear it worked guys!

It would be really neat, if only for the nostalgia. But in this day and age of day one game guides that include everything you need to 100% of the game, it will sadly not be the case.

The jump, the characters, the music, the heal he got inside the sphere.... ALL OF MY HYPE

BTW, if anyone wants to watch Advent Children, you have to watch AC Complete. Newly added story parts are responsible for making that movie watchable and understandable.

"Soon on Xbox" it's not even soon on Playstation lol
Hahaha :(

I don't want to link any Twitter accounts if I'm not supposed to/this person doesn't want it, but someone that would be in the know has already said this is a case of them being upset about a game "they aren't getting."
Yeah I thought it was strange as not even Sony right now knows what's gonna happen with the game as the negotiations are ptobably still going on. Like Xbox France would know anything.

I still hope there are playgrounds around the world where kids are making dumb rumors about video games.

Right, because a random twitter guy can confirm any of this just because he used a hashtag

"Soon on Xbox" this game isn't soon on anything for now lol

Pretty much.
I'm not expecting it until 2017 or later. And if it does hit 2017, not until the latter part of it.

I'm not sure anyone should trust this. For one, users we trust and know on this forum have stated otherwise. Additionally, this person could be simply basing their tweet on just the "First on PlayStation" screen at the end of the trailer.

I still hope there are playgrounds around the world where kids are making dumb rumors about video games.

It would be really great if this remake is actually played by kids between 12 - 15, specially in these times of shooters and mobile games.

My thoughts; I never personally asked for this - I believe every FF absolutely exists within its own era as the JRPG at the peak of technology of the time - but always knew it was a sort of inevitability, much like how Star Wars will always come back because there's been constant mass demand for more of it since the late 70's. People have been asking for this for more than ten damn years. I knew a guy in college asking for this when FFX had just come out, it's now thirteen years later, he's married with kids and it's finally happening. We got on Skype and enthused about Cloud and Barret like a couple of fuckin' 16 year olds again. He was always mad that the little Shinra soldier figurines never had a use.

So I'm looking forward to FFVII: Reunion ;), but I think the right mindset for it is paramount. The word remake can mean a lot of things, but I think it's important that it isn't considered as a replacement for the original. We're going to be living in a world with two FFVII's; one grand old PS1 masterpiece, and the new hotness, whatever form it may take. It should be looked upon on its own merits, as a new game, and we should accept changes in it. Older gamers are now mature enough to accept that this isn't necessarily shitting on our memories, and is instead creating a new take on an old favourite. If you get wound up too easily about changes, than this is going to drive you fuckin' insane - don't do that to yourselves. You end up not liking what they're doing with this? There's the original over there, go nuts. One isn't assimilating the other.

Combined with this the fact that early 3D polygonal games are aging quite visibly, although still absolutely charming FFVII became a slightly archaic retro game faster than I thought it would. I think if this happened five or so years ago it wouldn't have been the right time. Now is good. FFVII has IMO, the greatest ensemble cast in gaming, and it's going to be awesome to see the gang back together and freshly realised. I also think kudos has to be given to the reveal trailer, I thought the slowly peeling away of hints and images and words to your own personal moment of realisation was absolutely masterful.

There ain't no gettin' offa this train we're on!

Yeah they like to provoke PlayStation France (and vice versa).

They are still considering RoTR and Gears Ultimate Edition as Xbox One exclusives...

Yeah I thought it was strange as not even Sony right now knows what's gonna happen with the game as the negotiations are ptobably still going on. Like Xbox France would know anything.

I firmly believe the rumors back in E3 2013 that Verendus and Kagari have alluded to that Sony was actively trying to make FFXV exclusive to PS4. Talks didn't work out and I'm sure, at the time, Square was happy to reveal both FFXV and KHIII are also releasing on Xbox One. Makes sense, don't alienate potential markets. Especially so early in the console generation.

This was at a time where Square wasn't sure where the lion's share of the console market would be. Fast forward 2 years later, Sony is dominating worldwide, minus NA. Square may be more inclined to release on one console and PC if they are indeed still negotiating releases.

If the Xbox One version happens, I would imagine its impact would be minimal considering the fact that the PS4 would basically cannibalized the sales before hand. Almost everyone who wants FF7r would either have played it on the PS4 already or maybe have played it on the potential PC release. Only the diehard Xbox One crowd who refuses to purchase a PS4 or doesn't have a gaming PC would contribute to X1 FF7r sales, which I don't know would be much.

I doubt it.

From what I remember, Gaia is Spira 10,000 years in the future, or something along those lines.

That's.... not true at all. Gaia =/= Spira.

They are two separate planets with their own lifestreams and native lifeforms(Cetra and the Gaian humans that came from the Cetra are native to Gaia, while Spiran humans and Al Bhed are native to Spira). What Nojima makes a point of is that Shinra Corporation is founded 1000 years after Shinra(FFX-2's Al Bhed kid)'s descendants perfected space exploration, meaning within the 1000 before Shinra Corp.'s establishment, whichif we are talking Shinra Manufacturing, it's likely to be found sometimes in the early 1900s, while Shinra Corporation(the "electrical company" post-Mako discovery) was found around 1970s.

Either way, that would be a thousand years after Shinra's descendants arrive on Gaia(give or take a century for how how long it took to find Gaia). That would also mean that they arrived post-Calamity from the Skies, which happened 1000 years before their arrival(2000 years before the present era/1900s of FFVII). When FFX and FFX-2 took place would be determined by how many generations of Shinra's line it took before space exploration was perfected. It's possible that the whole "Calamity" battle between the Cetra and Jenova occurred hundreds of years before(on Gaia) the events of FFX occurred on Spira, though the events of Zanarkand's destruction could predate that by a couple of hundred years, or even longer.

I'm dreading voice acting forcing me to call her Aerith instead of Aeris. Damn them for using different names for NA and EU releases before! After 18 years of calling her Aeris this will be tough to adjust to...
The Reunion at hand may bring joy.

It may bring fear.

But, let us embrace whatever it brings.

It brings "Aerith"... embrace it!

YESSS, he's back!
Dude, don't you disappear again :D

1) Have you been you aware of them announcing it this year already?
2) You always said it would be way far off. Will this come out until 2017?
3) In 2013 when you started talking about it they were in planning stages still. Have they started full production as soon as Nomura joined the team last year then?
4) In-house or someone like CyberConnect2 (who dropped more than obvious hints last year) helping out?

5) You once mentioned seeing a "summon traversal" prototype. Was that what we now know as World of Final Fantasy?

Sincerely yours,
your biggest fan.

PS: I always believed you.
Why would you be a fan of random people on the internet? There are better people for that, like The Rock. Also, I'm a prat.

1. How could I know that it's being announced at E3? That's crazy talk. I totally didn't hide Sony's E3 in my post back in April.
2. The game is still early, so it's a bit pointless talking about release. It's a good few years yet.
3. They're still kind of working on what to cut, what to alter, and so on, so I wouldn't really call it full production.
4. Who's CyberConnect2?
5. It's a variant. That concept will be used elsewhere, I'm sure.

I feel like if this game was actually a PS4 exclusive, or even PS4/PC exclusive, Sony would be heavily emphasizing it with stronger wording then "play it first on playstation".

They're very likely still in talks about it. Remember how RoTR was announced with no platforms and ended up being a timed exclusive for MS? Yeah.

How long do these negotiations talks take? I'm not too savvy when it comes to closed door business deals

I just remember RotR was announced with no platforms and was genuinely surprised when it was called exclusive by MS. Till the agonizing questionings that lead to it's eventual reveal as being timed.

Why are people so worried they're going to mess with what happens to Aeris? If memory serves, she willingly sacrificed herself to summon Holy. As far as resurrection goes: isn't Cloud's guilt a major propelling force for him? They'd have to do some serious reworking of the plot for her to A) not die in the first place or B) be resurrected somehow.

So is there any realistic chance of this getting that 2017 date for release to coincide with the anniversary? Given the amount of work that would be needed for this I doubt it even if it coming out then would make for good marketing.

I figured S-E had learnt their lesson with the Versus fiasco, but it seems they still like to annouce things too early. Though I suspect KHIII is releasing earlier than we think. FFXV I'm honestly not seeing it until 2017, and the Remake... who knows, if they don't encounter the typical S-E development problems like: "We changed engines mid-development", "We had to redo most of the script because the marketing thought the main character was too manly", "We totally don't have talented guys like Ito to do things" (all big hits for years) then MAYBE a late Japan 2017 release would not be too far-fetched considering it has been a year and half or so in development

If it's not coming to Xbone I can't understand why Sony don't just come out and say it's a PS4 and PC game? What's stopping them?
You've answered your own question there.

None.

FFXV, KH3, then you can start worrying about this and XVI. It's not something they'll rush, and considering where they are now, I'd give Nomura and Kitase a million dollars personally if they make this game for 2017.

Sure there is, specially if they go with UE4. I just wouldn't be surprised if it got delayed.

Be realistic. 2097, 100 year anniversary of FFVII. By then the game will be so polished and upgraded(by Nomura's descendants), it will be a VR experience where they've recreated the world of FFVII in full scale and technology will "Matrix" us into the world to experience it all in first person mode. There will also be flying cars and a galactic federation treaty by then... ;)

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.

True but they're had PR guys interrupting interviews about it making sure nothing is said exclusive or not, sounds like they're in talks about it.
My guess is due to FFVII HD port already being console exclusive maybe because Sony still holds the rights to FFVII for NA/EU, so in order to release it outside Japan it'll have to be exclusive.
But those rights don't carry over to the Remake and Sony are now securing them, that's my guess because I can't see Sony securing the rights to just the port and not this unless they already had the rights which would also explain why VII/VIII/IX has never been released on other consoles.

Maybe it depends on how much they're willing to outsource to make it possible. If this is partially being funded by Sony as an attempt to invigorate the Japanese market, Sony will want them to release it sooner rather than later. I'm hoping for 2017 at the last minute, but at the same time, I would rather have them release it in 2018 if that's what it takes.

I know we're really far out to even start thinking about this, but I really hope they do some sort of Collector's Edition with this game, and if not, I hope eventually the new soundtrack gets a release (assuming they are doing a new one entirely).

Horizon, TLG, and Dreams. You got exactly three.

You said unannounced games, TLG was announced years ago, no?

I also don't think Dreams is "notable" *hides* Ignore this last one, I shouldn't judge the game this early without seeing gameplay.

Oh, don't be so modest, Robert!

1) Well, you said not everything in your list would be announced at E3.
2) Hope it doesn't delay FFXVI too much.
3) Yeah, obviously you're still changing stuff in full-production, too. At least they started actually developing instead of only planning on paper.
4) I hope what you're trying to say is that SE is developing internally and only outsources asset-creation to other studios. I don't really trust someone like CC2 to make AAA, cinematic games (I know the Naruto games look great for what they're going for but still...).
5) FFXVI, I guess. Summon traversal + large-scale battles. You don't have to say anything, I know I'm right. You might remember my detective skills.

TLG is a game everyone has been crying about for years, and some have believed it was dead. I don't really think a PS3 announcement six years ago means it's already announced.

Also, no need to hide. I did kind of warn that Dreams isn't a traditional big announcement, so I was expecting a mixed reaction. Having said that, it seems like it's mostly confusion. It's going to take a while for that to sink in. It's a crazy concept though, and it's the next big thing from Media Molecule, so it's something to look forward to. It's only problem really is that it's different, so it's not easy to convey the kind of excitement you can get from more straightforward stuff.

I told you I was originally expecting half of it. Obviously, I can't just drop everything and make it clear as day. I'm sensible.

It won't delay FFXVI. Different people, different challenges etc. If that gets delayed, it's its own fault.

When I say that I don't think it's in full production, what I mean is the following: they're still going over design decisions for the game. I'm not talking minor things, but major stuff. The script needs an overhaul, and since there's a lot of stuff in FF7, they're in the process of determining what gets cut, what gets altered, what gets integrated better etc. Obviously, it's a bit weird, since it's a remake rather than a new game, but when I'm told that, it's very much about laying the foundation still.

Does that count as full production? It's in early stages of development, let's just go with that. It's accurate, and still makes sense.
