Here is my setup:

c360_2015-06-15-15-20zprk9.jpg

I don't have a proper desk for I game and watch TV from my bed. Not having a desk also means I have to use a wireless mouse and keyboard. The Steam controllers cannot come soon enough :p.

Those two tower speakers are two awesome vintage (late 80s I think) Sanyo towers plus a no-name center speaker behind the TV for a 3.1 sound setup.

The TV is a Seiki se39uy04-1 running at 4K/31Hz for web browsing/schoolwork and 1080p/122Hz for everything else.

Perhaps I missed it in your OP, but do you mind sharing the Manufacturer/Model for the projector and screen?

My wife and I just bought a new house and I have a room that looks roughly the same size as yours that I would like to setup as a gaming/theater room.

Sorry for the delay! Here are the specs:

and there is this guy in the dining room. I consider myself a pretty terrible carpenter, but Im proud of what I put together. Need to fix up the control panel so it looks a little less ass still

Best I could do with this small apartment.

This one is lovely. It paints the story of you reading this forum just before eating dinner and watching Orange is the New Black. While that sounds funny, it makes me happy because it looks like somebody lives here, unlike a lot of the pristine places in some of these other photos.

I like this. Ones like this make me feel better for having such a small place, too.

You should hang a couple pictures or posters behind your desk on the wall there, to take up some of that empty space, if you're allowed to hang things, of course.

Thanks, I have a big red and yellow flag I've been thinking about hanging up, to give it some color.

I usually have dual monitors, but decided to stick with the one to make desk space & until I upgrade to a widescreen.

I don't know where else to put this. It isn't just a PC question, and isn't just a setups question. This is basically what I have now for my desk:

This is where I am for a majority of almost every day. This is where I work. Two 20" monitors with VGA and DVI each. Hooked into an HD 6570 that solely gets the job done. I rarely game on the PC, aside from ETS 2. My gaming comes from a 360, One, PS4 and PSTV hooked into an adapter on the right monitor.

Switching HDMI was a pain, so I bought a switcher. I'm trying to figure out what my next step is, keeping everything within a decent budget and WAF. My work is a VPN/RDP that I usually keep locked to the right monitor. I'm thinking I won't be happy just going with one widescreen monitor. I could go slightly bigger on the monitors, or I could throw a 32" TV on the wall above, and have it be for my media and game consumption. Find a card that can output to three sources.

What say you?

A recent attempt at a triple screen driving setup. I'll try and get some better pictures when I get round to tidying the wires and what not.

Ok, this is awesome!

And the small fan in the right corner for the fresh driving air in your face? :D

Probably the best use of triple screens i've ever seen. It's usually a mess with 3 monitors all calibrated completely differently with the colours and contrast off and it looks awful. I'm assuming your far right monitor looks off just due to the extreme angle of an LCD.

I tried to make my space more of a hybrid dedicated theatre/media room without that cold feeling of being a dedicated media theatre room. In my previous place it was 100% theatre with seating and all and it looked amazing, but when your using it all the time you want something warm and inviting

Mind you this was taken as soon as I "finished" the main area

using a sony HW40es proejctor, 7.2 surround sound ( klpisch for main speakers , svs subs, marantz reciever and other goodies etc). That screen is acoustically transparent and surrounded by speaker fabric made frames. The 2 subs and 3 front speakers are all hidden behind it.

This is all really beautiful. That wire hanging down is causing me a lot of anxiety though! I've been trying to decide between a new TV and a projector. Would you (or anyone else here) have a general recommendation on that?

I should post some updated pics this is literally just as I finished and threw everything up just to turn it on

in terms of projector or TV it all depends on your room. Is it somewhat dedicated? 100% light controlled? have the space? using it as your "main" viewing device? such as no other TV's in the home...such as living room etc? There are lots of variables but here is why I went with a projector

- Its in the basement so I had ample room and customization
- if im making a media room then why not go all out? I didnt see the point of making another living room in the basement with a basic TV etc when I have that upstairs
- 100% light controlled
- projector cost is roughly the same as a good television but allows any size screen
- its not my main TV room, so its essentially just movies and games. We watch basic TV upstairs so the basement is kind of like a treat to go down on weekends to watch a flick or whatnot.
- nothing beats a 100+ screen
- nothing beats a 100+ screen
- yes I meant to type that twice.

I'm currently leaning toward a TV because of a lot of things you mentioned in the line of questioning:

- The room is not 100% light controlled
- This would be my main (only) viewing device aside from my PC
- The space is limited and would likely require a short-throw projector
- I wouldn't initially be able to put up a screen and would need to project on a white wall

Thanks for the reply!

All you guys with basement setups, how do you prevent dampness? I've never been comfortable with having media setups in the basement due to fear of dampness affecting the electronics.

For me, I had an Interior Weeping Tile System put into place, that way any water than sips into the walls gets collected and pumped out via two sump pumps. Once I did that, the basement has never had an ounce of dampness.

dehumidifier if paranoid but its all about comfort. I guess some basements are worse than others.

I love the painted open ductwork/floor joists. I'm planning on doing that in our basement when I get started on a renovation in the future. Did you do it yourself or have a contractor do it? I see you have soffits around some of the ceiling. It's a nice mix.

That's interesting, I've never had a sump pump, but a weeping tile system combined with one looks like an effective situation.

I've got a smallish dehumidifier, I'll look into a more permanent/larger machine.

I was absolutely convinced that the speaker to the right of the chair was some sort of electronic gas pump. I was all: "Dang, this guy is SUPER committed to this."

I'm an idiot.

So, I decided to stick with dual monitors instead of adding an HDTV.

Now I'm attempting to decide between the Acer H236HLBID and the Dell S2415H. Both have pretty thin 'bezels' on the sides, which is what I'm looking for. Dell had VESA and a better button/menu setup and speakers, but for about $50 more per monitor.

Sorry about the blur on that last one. I will take more photos once I've finished unpacking from the move. Naturally, this is the part of the flat that had to be organised first.

What made you decide to stick with dual monitors rather than going with a larger single screen? I'm struggling with this decision myself. I enjoy having the separate work spaces, but I feel like gaming would be better on a 32" or something as opposed to the 24" dual setup I am currently working with.

Well, I looked at it as three options:

  1. Two monitors
  2. Two monitors + HDTV above
  3. One super screen (monitor or TV)

I discounted just having one super wide monitor due to price and the fact that if my calculations were correct, I'd be paying more for less screen real estate. My computer is my income, and I need to clearly see what I'm working on from my RDP-VPN connection (very much text-based), which currently I put on one monitor and browse/game on the other.

If I have just one monitor or TV, I couldn't game and work at the same time (it's weird, but I actually do better work when there's a distraction). To be clear, most of my gaming comes from consoles. I only play ETS2 on my computer, and that's rare these days. So, my choice really boils down to what's easiest for me to dual task.

Yes, the bezels suck when I do PC game and stretch across both monitors. Luckily, it's not something that is a big impact on the decision process. If my math or reasoning is wrong, feel free to counter. I was just about to pull the trigger on some open-box H236HLs for about $215 total. I bought them on Friday and took them back on Saturday because while the quality was great, I was still trying to decide what to do and I wasn't sure about an expense that cleared up yesterday. My current monitors are Acer S201HL/S202HL and the difference between matte and glossy is like night and day.
