Koei Tecmo FY2014/15 Annual Report by ZhugeEX

Titans of Japanese gaming, Sega, Konami, Capcom, Square are falling, the underdog Koei Tecmo is Rising. I'm really happy about this.

But I really want another Rygar. Hopefully they'll return the series sometime, what they did with Deception was pretty good.

I find it gross that so much of their revenue stream came from DLC sales. It just encourages Tecmo Koei to continue producing $30+ bundles like with DoA.

Huh....

Well I wasn't expecting that....

I did. :D

If a game for the series were to be made, then it was either going to be a Dynasty Warrior type of game or a SRPG. Since Koei got first dibs, this was to be expected.

The guy who wrote the original novels for Arslan also wrote Legend of the Galactic Heroes as well as Tytania.

Well yeh, the game makes sense but I just wasn't expecting the next collaboration to be that IP haha.

I was actually expecting the next collaboration to be Arslan related seeing as how it is a pretty high profile manga series at the moment, especially drawn by the creator of Full Metal Alchemist.

The manga itself is pretty good and fleshes out Arslan's character more than the OVAs.

I wasn't following the series closely (this novel is like 3 decades old) so I didn't know comic & TV series are live now. Now it makes more sense to make video game out of it..

Dead or Alive 5 (free 2 play) downloads have now exceeded 3.5 million worldwide.

Koei Tecmo's mobile game "Nobunyaga GuruGuru Dungeon" has seen cumulative 565,000 downloads across iOS and Android whilst "Nobunaga's Ambition 201X" has seen more than 400,000 cumulative downloads.

Considering "next-gen" development is already underway, I guess it's pretty safe to assume that they're developing games for NX, being that it's the only one we know about that's coming out in the next 1-2 years.

Last generation developers kept saying next gen till at least 2010. It's a phrase without meaning but no doubt they will have NX games in the works.

Considering the context it was spoken in, it seems the distinction between what's current and what's next-gen was already made.

Could ZhugeEX perhaps clarify the statement?

As well as this there are brand new titles such as Level 5’s collaboration, Romance of the Three Kingdoms Monsters. There are also other titles such as ROTK: Legion and ROTK: Cao Cao’s Legend that will be releasing. There will also be a special anthology of Romance of the Three Kingdoms titles from the past 30 years titled “Romance of the Three Kingdoms: Feudal Warlord” in Japan.

Wow, I didn't know about any of those, thanks for the info and great OP.

I'm assuming they're all Japan only titles for now?

Also nice avatar, that's a great TV series. :)

-To introduce new and existing IP on new multi platform such as Smartphone, online, Next Generation console and other new platforms such as project Morpheus

Nice to know they're planning to work on Morpheus.

Koei Tecmo confirmed that more collaborations are on the way. One title in particular is being developed with the Western market in mind and is currently being prepared. Whilst no details are being given yet, Koei have told us to look forward to a collaboration with a huge western IP. Negations are still on-going and final development plan has not been decided yet.

This is interesting. Final Fantasy Musou finally happening?

great thread zhuge!

any word on their pc ventures or how they see their platform?

Thanks! Not much word about PC. However it looks like Koei are supporting PC with a lot of their games recently and I would expect this to continue with PC ports being released worldwide rather than just in Japan or not at all.

Hi Terrell, sorry about the confusion.

This statement refers to the current generation of consoles such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The phrase next gen is used to distinguish between PS3 era as Japan are still very much releasing games on PS3 at the moment.

Correct, it is all Japan titles for now and for those in particular there is a very slim chance of localisation.

and thanks haha, it's a great tv show but I think the 1993/1994 tv series is better.
