I'm pretty sure there are girl halos now. But masterchief has always been the same character, not reincarnations, so it wouldn't make sense to change things up there. Link, on the hand, is different in almost every game, and is supposed to be a stand-in for the player. It's not okay to just assume your players will mostly be male anymore.

I agree changing link to a G protein-couple inwardly rectifying potassium channel (GIRKs) would be a bad idea

Well I know on another board about eight years ago we had a joke thread where we argued Link was in fact a girl just to see the responses. Interestingly it was mainly females who hated the thread mostly because Link was their bishie. The idea has existed for ages. Some of the art posted in this thread is years old too (I, in fact, remember posting some of them in said thread)
