I often realize that 99% of the music I listen to is Anime OST's, when I actually think about it I often feel a bit insular but then I realize that there's just so much great music. A bit random, but I'm listening to an old favorite of mine, the Mononoke soundtrack, the Tatara Work Song is criminally short but probably my favorite on the whole CD.

That Top Anime OST thread has been mighty quiet as of late...
just messing with ya :p

Game of Laplace 2

Was going to watch this episode but was iffy because of last week. 10 secs in I see blushies on the glasses dude just because the kid that looks like a girl got close to tell him a secret. Yeaaaaah no. I was in for the mystery, but you throw this type of stuff, plus all the other anime-as-heck stuff from last week and it's a drop. On to the next one.

Professionals aren't writing up panels because the state of anime journalism (animation journalism in general?) is garbage. Twitter and this thread are way better at keeping me informed than any animation news site. (Thanks for your write up BTW Jarmel)

Anime Expo 2015 Panel Summaries-

Trigger AX 2015 Panel

-Imaishi: Maybe we should move out West.
-Yoshinari: “I just saw Ninja Slayer and Sex and Violence. Guess I’m the last fort in Trigger to save the studio from these crude animations.”

LOL

Daisuki Panel
-He mentioned that George RR Martin’s Wild Cards was an inspiration for him. I asked whether he was inspired by any other contemporary writers and he stated George Orwell and Alan Moore. Yes I know Orwell isn’t contemporary but that was his answer.

More name drops of respected Western authors. It would be nice if this delivered. I wonder if all the Marvel hype is influencing the proliferation of superhero shows in Japan?

Sunrise Panel

-Sunrise branch will target adult viewers
-New Gundam series being announced 7/14. Announcement will be English subtitled. There is a big international push with this.

A Gundam series getting a dub and TV deal perhaps? Hoping this show isn't shit.

LWA Panel
-Otsuka: “Japanese audiences are kinda quiet so it’s hard to know whether they liked it or not. For Americans it’s like a live feed”. Chants of “USA USA USA”.
-Original version of LWA2 was very different. Just constant battles, an occasional car chase, and monsters. Story didn’t even take place at Luna Nova anymore. Akko would be riding a dragon with her friends and a secret society would be chasing her with guns. Romance between some new male character and Akko. None of their ideas (Wakabayashi and Imaishi) went through.
-Yoshinari, in regards to Amanda: “I think I was a little influenced by KLK.”
-Yoshinari, in regards to Constanze: “I was told I needed to make three new characters so I decided to make one that didn’t talk at all.”
Yoshinari, in regards to Yasna: “Been checking Western cartoons and noticed more round characters so I thought that was what our Western audience would like.”

-LOL
-Sounds awesome but also not very LWA either. Glad that romance subplot was dropped at least :/
-Yeah I can see that. Amanda > Ryuko :p
-Somebody mandated 3 new characters?
-Westerners like plump characters?

A1 Productions Panel

-Despite the low sales of Shin Sekai Yori, they would be willing to do more works from the author.
-If there are future adaptation of SAO, A1 will be the studio to animate it.

Shout out to all the stupid fucks in the A1 audience who kept asking whether a S2 of whatever show is coming. No, they are not going to announce a sequel to a high profile show in a random Q&A question. By the sixth person asking the same question but with whatever different series, the message should have been clear. Audience didn’t deserve the shikishi being given away. Worst set of questions I’ve ever seen at any convention.

-Good to hear
-Boo :(
-Sounds like the same sort who were at the MomoCon Toonami Panel were at this one :/

E-Sakuga Panel
I don't have any comments here but sounds super cool

No more Shirobako?

Thank fucking god

Seraph of the End 9 Dub

Whoa what happened? SotE has never looked great but it's never looked awful either, parts of this episode looks worse then any episode of broadcast Titan which is mind boggling. Story wise not much really happened out of getting a plot shenanigans power up item for the main cast and a bit of Mika's time as a young vampire. Next weeks episode looks to be far more interesting assuming it doesn't become an animation nightmare.

This is pretty godlike :based:
Sumire got great chara development, she's very bland since introduced but keep built-up and finally got this deserved moment.. man I'm so happy with these episode.

Also Tutu Balerina is such a awesome song.

Yo what

How can you be upset about that when you watch Snafu

SNAFU is good. This isn't.

I know you are referring to SNAFU because of that character, but that was a running joke in a lighthearted show. This on the other hand is supposed to be a show about mystery, deaths and crimes, yet we are thrown the most anime tropes out there just because they are trying to cater to a certain audience. It's almost as if they were scared that the main mystery plot wasn't enough to get their audience engaged with the show.

YOU GUYS KILL ME.

Overlord 1

Wow its been quite a while since I saw a show go from intetesting premise to generic crap so quickly.

Man, Pompoko has some nice tracks in its soundtrack, I kind of enjoyed the film when I watched it years ago, I think I might enjoy it more the second time around. It's a weird film, not much happens in it but I still dug it a lot. It had heart man and had conviction in its message. My brother fell asleep while watching it, typical. I know you're reading this.

Even Gintama is retroactively lewd due to this summer season. Earth Invasion arc begins now.

I have the Mondo Ghibli vinyl, Pom Poko music too good.

You'll be hunting for a Renge-chon Nendoroid in no time.

Shes a cutie. Worth searching for that one

Okusama Episode 2

Nothing to be said...

School-LIVE Episode 1

Yuki, ahhh, so cute. Taroumaru is a cute dog too. Love the OP, very fun and up beat with a great animation. Kurumi, Mii, Rii, all the girls are pretty. The amount of cute and "moe" that School Live gives off is so much, so so so much! The way the first episode is setup is really neat, we're never shown the outside world, all the windows are really bright so we don't know what it's like until the "twist" occurs. I'm really curious about Yuki and why she sees things the way she does, it's very... interesting, mad interesting. The ED is really good too, I enjoyed it.

Is this a 1-cour or 2-cour show?

Himouto! Umaru-chan Episode 1

I looooooooooooooove the chibi Umaru, oh my "ahhhhhhhhhhh', yessss! Looking forward to more of the blue haired girl, she's awesome. I love the segment on eating foods that go great with cola, holy crap that was funny. Her brother has to deal with quite the handful, but Umaru is so much fun. I really like this one.

I like the art style, especially the way chibi Umaru is drawn, that's really great. Nice colors and detail where it needs to be. The sound effects used are really fun and cute, like when we first meet Umaru-chan and she crawls towards her food, the cute sound that went along with her crawl, ahhh, just so good. OP and ED are both really good and fun. Heck, this whole anime is just fun and cute, can't wait to see what else they can do.

Yaaaaay Cornbread!

Himouto umaru-chan is a gift from the heavens. amazingly cute show so far.

I can live without a Shirobako sequel,
I think
.

Honestly I could too because they kind of tapped out the shows potential. what else could they really do with it?

Barakanon ep 1-3
tumblr_nqqeygml5Q1r922azo1_500.gif

I don't know if I can handle all these cute anime series today, lol. This little cutie makes the show and if you put her and Renge together and my goodness, you could have a fun and energenic cast. I guess this will be a coming of age of sorts for Sensei in this one as he finds himself through his personal discourse, but his interactions with the kids like Naru and the other girls are excellant so far and we are only 3 episodes in. This should be an entertaining watch and I'll probably have enough time tomorrow to finish this and NNB, so it should be a great day!

Barakamon is legit adorable too. Great way to unwind and relax. I cant wait for a bluray of that.

Yeah if I there was a show that had both Naru and Renge together I'd probably die from cuteness overload.

Also I can't wait till you see best Mom introduced later on.

Thats something only I could survive, and thats not guaranteed.

Wow that's awesome, the soundtrack really is amazing! It's just really ambient and lively and just compelling to listen to. The film and its soundtrack probably gets looked over a lot as far as Ghibli films go but I really liked the film, its by no means by favorite but it does hold a place in my heart, I just really clicked with it, a weird sensation but the end just captured me perfectly.

I bet you didn't see the
quote on the chalkboard, the garden grave, and the Stephen King book.

Well actually:

I was spoiled on the fact that this would involve a post-zombie-apocalypse scenario and that she was hallucinating.

What I wasn't spoiled on and what shocked me was the fact that her other friends were still alive and are watching her friend go insane thinking nothing's wrong.

I did take note of the chalkboard quote and the Stephen King book, but I didn't notice the garden grave.

Honestly, I don't even know if I want to watch the second episode of this. Like, this is just depressing. :(

*sees reactions to school live*

*reads plot summary on wikipedia*

Yuki Takeya is a cheerful school girl who is a member of her school's "School Living Club" (学園生活部 Gakuen Seikatsu Bu?), alongside her friends Kurumi Ebisugawa and Yūri Wakasa. Yuki seeks out fun school activities every day whilst Kurumi and Yūri protect her, because in reality, they are the sole survivors of their school after a zombie outbreak overruns the city.

You've seen Madoka
so you can definitely survive watching moe suffering.
😎

At least with Madoka
there was at least some semblance of things maybe turning out all right!

These girls are trapped in their own school as the last survivors of a zombie attack and one of them's hallucinating that everyone's still alive. Like, only more and more bad things can happen in this scenario!

The only good thing about the pool youkai getting one more episode is Ataru and Mendou fighting to get air to hear his stories while Lum don't give a fuck...and Jaws the Third.

I never actually saw the end of the show. Does it ever end? The final two films are fantastic though. To hell with Shinobu, Ataru can do better.

Darker Than Black 1-2

The random shifting tones of Episode 1 almost had me gone, but the end of Episode 2 made up for it. I'll give it a chance.

I have. It has a lot of heart even if the little girl gets annoying near the later episodes. It also has a surprisingly great romantic story side plot. It's like Usagi Drop, except you can continue the story with the manga and it WON'T ruin everything!

So It's a pretty good story and actually has a proper ending?

I think he was talking about underage nudity or something or other.

Uggh, Arcy, that's unfortunate... See ya soon buddy.

Hah, Branduil was one of the first to have said he watched it way back when.
Yeah, it's basically what's on the cover in terms of its shoujey premise.
Apparently.

so it's a "chick-flick" then, lol.

Yes. Aishiteruze baby is like a predecessor to Usagi Drop. Its adorable as fuck.

Nice, I'll have to give it a watch then.

What's Usagi Drop though?
