Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer - First shipment in Japan over 500k

Nintendo tweeted about the included Amiibo-card in the upcoming Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and clarified that the card will only be included in the first shipment.

At the same time they stated that the first shipment of the game and the game+NFC-reader will have a combined number of over 500,000 copies. Currently all preorders should receive the card.

Next Million-seller confirmed?

It looks to be doing well on the pre-orders side so I won't be surprised if it hits a million when all is said and done.

Edit: Just talking about Japan sales alone.

Not surprising AC is up their with DQ and MH in Japan.

A spinoff like this was bound to do gangbusters.

So the game and NFC Readers combined equal to 500,000? Wouldn't that be 250,000 copies of the game and 250,000 of the NFC Reader?

Nope. There's a package of the game only and a package of the game with bundled NFC readers. That's what it's referring to.

The game comes with the NFC reader

250k Standalone
250k game + reader

Or whatever the split is.

Not surprising, New Leaf still sells incredibly well and usually charts every week despite coming out years ago. Animal Crossing is up the with Pokemon, Mario, and Zelda in terms of Nintendo franchises now.

Animal Crossing has always been bigger than Zelda though.

I don't understand the negative sentiment for this game. The board game sure, but this game definitely hit a nice chord where people can go all out designing the homes without having to spend forever waiting to get the right furniture in shops or from friends.

Not back on the N64 and GameCube it wasn't. Series didn't really take off until Wild World.

Wild World released 10 years ago, so for ten years, in Japan, AC has been bigger than Zelda.

Damn. hard to believe it's been 10 years. But regaurdless, I don't feel like people see it that way even of it is true. When people mention big Nintendo franchises one would usually mention Zelda before Animal Crossing, if they mention it at all.

Hopper amiibo card and an awesome house for Hopper. Those are the goals. Glad to hear the good reception for the game. Hope the preorder card thing is for NA too and it gets announced ahead of time so I can plan accordingly.

It is tracking pretty well on pre-orders in Japan. It will probably become a million seller if it will have legs (and why shoudn't it have them? unless it's bad and the WoM will ruin its sales)

If you really enjoy the home decorative features of Animal Crossing, then yeah, this game is perfect for you. I'm guessing some people were just put off that these spinoff games were announced instead of a new AC installment, but given the success of this series, a new game is likely still on its way. It's probably just a bit further off than some were hoping.

Wow. By bigger, do you mean it sells more, or that people are more familiar with Animal Crossing than Zelda? (or both?)

Yup, Zelda isn't popular here, tbh. My students have their Animal Crossing lunchboxes, Super Mario cups, and Pokemon backpacks but hardly any Zelda stuff.

This is not factually correct. Zelda is popular in Japan as well, but Animal Crossing is just another order of magnitude. Animal Crossing is on par with Pokémon and Mario in terms of popularity; Zelda is a very big name but less marketable.

Both.

Wild World sold more than 5m on DS; New Leaf sold more than 4m on 3DS; even the crappy City Folk was a million seller there. On the other hand, Skyward Sword felt short of 400k units and the best-selling Zelda of the past 6 years has been Ocarina of Time 3D with 600k units.

It's currently both. Zelda only had 1 million seller in Japan in Ocarina of Time. It sells a solid few hundred thousand per series, so it's more of a core gamer series in Japan. AC has a wider audience and has been a million seller ever since Wild World. It now has 3 million sellers, with the latest game New Leaf at over 4 million.

The card you get for preordering is just a random one of the first regular card-series, so nothing exclusive or limited actually.
