The salt by you man. Jesus. Do you work for 343?

And there it is. I don't have to work at 343 to want to have decent Halo discussion, especially since our community thread was ripped from us.

What previous experience applies this to Halo campaigns?

Halo has always had short campaigns. Halo 3 was one of the best shooter campaigns I've played, and it was 5 hours long?

Kind of sensationalist title to be honest.

If it was "Halo 5's Narrative Designer talks about world and character building." I doubt many would bat an eye lash. And none of what she says is really that shocking.

nah man you must work for 343

I was just about to post the same thing haha.

If I recall Halo 1-3 didn't have much story unless you explored the enviroments.

And that makes that tired game mechanic something that should still be a heal to this series cause they "always did it"?

Well fix it then if that is the case.

I hope that's not publicist speak for 'It's really short, please don't tell anyone'

I do love games that hide storytelling elements in nooks and crannies, where you can see as much or as little of the story as you want. Hopefully this is that.
It's bigger and longer and nobody "warned" anyone and the thread title is comically misleading and everyone will ignore this post or scold me for not being clear enough and the bolded is spot on. It's about replayability and surprise.

Don't want those reactions? Don't release an ambiguous statement about "rushing" through your game when there is no reason to say something like that.

All they had to say was, "We have lots of little details hidden in our game. Little things that brings the Halo universe to life, things that fans who have been following the series for years will understand and find great pleasure in"

Agreed.

Sometimes it's really the way you say it that brings on the dogpile.

Did you actually read the article?
The world of Halo 5: Guardians is stuffed with character and world details outside of the main story campaign, but rush through the game and you might miss them. That's the message 343 Industries shared with fans today at Comic-Con during a panel dedicated to storytelling for the upcoming Xbox One shooter.

Don't care about the length too much but the size is the most important part. Making the levels more open a la Halo 3 is what's going to keep me coming back to replay.

Typical Gamespot clickbait.

Halo 3 was the best of story with the actual game and backstory and lore with the terminals.

This is the balance 343i should strive for, a great self contained story while expanding the lore and understanding of the universe for those who wish to learn and expand it's understanding.

Halo 4's story is what 343i needs to avoid. Namedropping extended lore characters out of nowhere and expecting the player to know them is not how you do a good story.

That didn't take long.

I never rushed through any games' campaign, and I love Halo lore.

Neither have I.

I am sorry that we have heard this tirelessly with less to be desired results by multiple makers in the past.

The whole first page is an echo of those fears. I do hope they achieve their goal though, and it isn't just audiolog/terminal hunting. Bleh.

Why is this forum so pessimistic lately? It really seems like everyone takes and runs with the worst possible interpretation of every bit of information we're given on a game...

The natives are restless.

Maybe they just think it's a complex story and they're letting us know about it's intricacies? That should make story lovers happy if anything.

There it is? Youre the one protecting a company with a terrible history over a comment they didnt have to make at all.

Have you played any of the Halo games since Bungie stopped making them? Theyve been broken pieces of crap and taken months to fix the issues after release.

But hey, stay on that broken hype train for a developer who comes on GAF, hypes it up for months, then disappears for 3 months when they release a broken piece of shit that they sold to suckers like you and i.

I learn from my mistakes, but if you want to blindly support companies, i hear Konami needs new fans after canning the best developers they had. Ubisoft is still making bullshit trailers and releasing broken(but still in a better state than 343 games) for $60.

They made need you to protect their image on this forum too.
E: halo 3 was 5 hours long according to you? So whats the big deal if we are complaining its gonna be 5 hours long? You should be thrillled!

A couple shitheads posted porn-ish gifs, they get the thread closed now I'm stuck discussion Halo on gaming side.

yeah, I'd say ripped.

It wasn't really just that one singular event that led to Halo GAF being closed down. That was the final straw.

Dude, what are you even talking about? Konami? Bungie? Ubisoft?

What the fuck lol

What does this have to do with anything regarding Halo 5 length and jumping to conclusions?

Yeah, I'm sure there was tons of Halo discussion going on!

Come on. You know it wasn't just that thing that got the OT shut down.

Lol, well then, I was presuming that it showcases that there's more neat story details off the beaten path in the game (which I really enjoy) rather than it meaning "Game's super short, everything's told through terminals" like many are thinking here.

I haven't been this excited for a Halo campaign since Reach. Blue team + all the awesome level art we've seen so far = hype.

I do hope that you're right but I'll remain sceptical.

There are still the MCC and Lore* topics. Just because your favourite thread got locked up doesn't mean that you need to whine about it in every Halo thread on gaming side.

*This was the only Halo topic I followed, the Halo OT wasn't in my tastes, but I stopped following it as it started to move to fast for me to keep up with.

Whatever was said at the panel, I now know that the campaign is bigger and longer than any previous Halo one, so I'm happy :)

Bigger and longer than Halo 4? I thought Halo 4's length was perfectly acceptable. Then again I care more about the pacing of things.

And focus on replayability is freaking awesome, that gets me excited, I love exploring and finding secrets. I find Halo 1 and 3 to be the most replayable in the series due to them feeling less scripted than the other ones, and one of my favorite aspects of Halo 2 and 3 in particular was finding all those secrets.

I sure hope it is this. I never played 4, loved the lore in the first 3, so looking forward to this if that is the case.
