It's been over 24 hours and I still can't get over Iwata passing: Satoru Iwata, someone I adored at a point in my gaming consumption path, and someone I got to identify so much with as a programmer, given how obvious it was that he went the hard way in life in learning to program and to make games, someone so close and dear to Masahiro Sakurai, and finally, someone whose direction got us so many fantastic games, is now gone forever. It really is too soon after Yamauchi passing, and way before his time, so so young. The very moment my sister let me know about this news I flinched a bit. Even if he usually got the board pretty horrible at times, with people seeking after his dismissal from the company, I still believe it's truly impossible to hate someone so full of love for life, so full of cheer and with such passion for the User of his software. Someone who even as the CEO who led his company to its most profitable state in over a hundred years hesitated not to stand in front of a camera holding bananas to give people laughs: let's see Mattrick, Kottick and Hirai do that, for example...

May you rest in peace, beautiful mind. May you rest in peace.

Won't even be able to understand how I'll feel when Mr. Miyamoto dies.

Although hopefully it's when he's much older, and in that way doesn't hurt as much

Still have trouble believing it..
My first game that Satoru Iwata was involved with was probably Kirby's adventure.
A game I still love even to this day. Starting playing Earthbound recently too. Never expected this to happen though..

Seeing the Splatoon plaza filled with messages and tributes to Iwata was also quite amazing to see. Iwata did say he was surprised and grateful for Splatoon 's success. Glad to see he at least got to see it becoming a success.

Feels sad that his last message to us was to apologize :(
I guess the fanbase was a little harsh, I can't think how he actually felt with how everyone reacted towards their E3 presentation.

Anyone know how much of a hand he had in Kirby 's Pinball Land?

It's my favourite game ever and definitely top 5 game boy games ever. So much charm.

He seems to be credited as staff. Aside that, nothing to do with it really.

I agree, I love that game. It's one of the only Gameboy games I owned and I adore it.

nintendo has almost single-handedly kept me interested in videogames as i've waded into my thirties, and i can't help but attribute a lot of that to iwata's idiosyncratic corporate leadership. by all accounts, he was a terrific human being and a brilliant mind. that he's all out of continues (at least on this mortal coil) cues a huge, huge grief that i feel square in my chest.

There was also the success of Splatoon. Try not to think of the negatives. I'm sure the love for Splatoon made him so happy

he's already 62 and healthy as fuck, I can see him lasting many more years. Christopher Lee managed it, rocking out to death metal up until his mid nineties

Yesterday and today have felt hollow. I usually can be creative when I'm sad but I just can't get inspired. I am a bit too sensitive and empathetic and I think a lot about death, losing people I care about. Even though I didn't know Iwata personally of course, I can't stop myself from over thinking it. It's nice that everyone here is so engaged about it so at least I can read similar sentiments. I only wish we all had said all of these beautiful things in such abundance while he was still here.

Yamauchi wasn't a likeable guy, but for all his faults, he couldn't have picked a better guy to succeed him. It's amazing that a business-minded person like him saw potential in a guy who was all heart and passion like Iwata and gave his trust to Iwata to lead Nintendo. It's hard to imagine that Iwata would have been able to make it on his own on a corporate culture as rigid as Japan's.

RIP both of you.

Any update about Neogaf logo? That banned site modified their. Not liking the current, such a happy logo for a sad day. :(

It's great that they started doing the Nintendo Directs and other fun things with him in them so that people who normally would have no idea or interest in knowing who Iwata is, got a chance to get to know him. He seemed like a really nice guy.

Yes.
Even if it wasn't,it isn't proper to turn up to a funeral you aren't invited to. It's generally for close family and friends to mourn. While we are all upset by it, the most anyone should do is send flowers.

Fans should most definitely stay away from the funeral, unless they decide to make it a public event. Nintendo should really consider giving an outlet for fans to showcase their tributes and mourn collectively. Maybe, ThankYouIwata.com?

I get misty eyed every time I open this thread. Ugh.

It's my birthday too :-(

My wife baked me a cake. Hopefully that plus some Earthbound can cheer me up.
It feels like we just lost a brother or even father depending on how old you were....

Sad Sad day.
