Media Create Sales: Week 28, 2015 (Jul 06 - Jul 12)

It looks too cute to bomb hard...I hope.

Looks like 3DS sales have hit the point where big releases will no longer have a big effect on hardware sales. Big sales periods will probably just be holidays. Most people that want one seem to have one given how many it's sold. Nintendo is stretching it into next year, but I guess in Japan there are a fair few Monster Hunter/Dragon Quest titles coming.

Price drop would tempt a few more, but they've saturated their market with what the 3DS can do at this point. (All of this really does lead me to believe a mid-summer release on the NX handheld in Japan.)

Because of PSV tiny installed base.

Bigger than WiiU, though

10 WIU Taiko Drum Master: Wii U Version! 17,518 / 181,289
24 WIU Taiko Drum Master: Tokumori! 9,582 / 60,087

Where the game had notable, normal, Taiko legs.

I don't think it's going to have legs on Vita because of audience mis-match, but userbase has nothing to do it.

Also worth noting that despite a "steep decline" from 62k -> 41k from 3DS -> Vita, it's miles better than it did on WiiU. So if they're going to alternate platforms like they seem to like to do with Taiko, seems a decent enough choice.

Persona 4 Dancing All Night could end up being the worst selling spinoff.
It started off higher than Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, but has had worse legs.
Some were expecting the contrary, but it seems the Persona 5 trailer had a bigger impact.

I wonder what magic it needs for this to become real.

AC:HHD might give incentive to substitute the old 3DS model (bought for AC:NL) for a New 3DS.

Including digital, Splatoon is now at ~470k if I'm not mistaken. 500k before the end of July is really happening. Nice legs!

Are there two AA teams or is DGS made by the same people who made DD (plus Shu)?

There are two. DGS is made by the AAI team.

Wait... I know there are two, but I think I got that detail wrong. The AAI team is now the mainline series team, I think, and they've announced they're working on a separate AA title. So DGS would be made by different people than AA5.

El Capitan Todd
Great for Yokai Buster, good to me for The great Ace, nothing special for Taiko, very bad for Run for the Money, still good for Fire Emblem and Splatoon, and Minecraft.
PS platforms seems to perform decently.

DGS might have sold OK but I'm not sure if 150k ish retail titles are part of Capcom's strategy anymore.

Anyhow, there's no reason there won't be an HD version of DGS for iOS next year.
or even NX!

Thanks! I suppose that future AA games will be bouncing back and forth from mainline and DGS then.

Capcom has been pretty clear this is their general development strategy for their games going forward:

Capcom said:
Q. Are you making progress with measures to reduce the time needed to develop titles in major series?

A. During the past few years, we have reorganized our development operations and enacted significant
structural reforms. We have completed a framework that can use several lines for the production of
a single series and have started using this system. We believe that one of the benefits of this
framework will be a shorter development period, which is something we have yet been able to
achieve. For titles that we are working on now, we expect that major benefits will start to appear
from the fiscal year ending in March 2017.
Source: http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/data/pdf/explanation/2014/full/explanation_2014_full_05.pdf

See Monster Hunter's 7+ simultaneously developed games (MH5, MHX, MHS, MHE, MH Cats, MHF2,, MH Moe) and the Resident Evil mix of HD remasters, mainline games, and Revelations for other examples.

Their f2p games and Street Fighter V are a bit different since they're constantly developed platforms, but there are often still at least mobile spin-offs.

Good opening for Yo-Kai Busters. I'm happy to see YW3 pushed back to next year; I was getting worried that Level 5 were going to Level 5 over this franchise, and it's nice to see they aren't burning it out quite that fast.

The franchise needs to stay around until at least 2017, to give Game Freak a continued kick up the arse.

I do wonder if Nintendo will drop the price for all the 3DS models before Xmas. I really can't see it do big numbers anymore and that sales will likely be much lower next year until Nintendo releases the NX.

I do hope they announce it at the beginning of the year and fully unveil it at E3

Not terrible numbers for AA, but not lighting the charts on fire either. Hopefully a 60-80% sell-through up against Yokai Watch is enough to keep Capcom happy.

COLOPL, one of Japanese mobile gaming's biggest success (they very frequently launch major successes, sometimes even getting astronomically huge chart topping ones like White Cat and Quiz RPG), has gotten another game titled Battle Girl High School to be able to reach the top 10.

It's not doing so with consistency yet to note, but it is a good sign that it's been going up progressively and got here several months after launch instead of just with the launch.

As you probably guessed from the title, it's an otaku game about petting girls and stuff, though the main gameplay loop appears to be about the high school girl battling:

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Poor Takumi, at least it's nowhere near a Ghost Trick situation. Hopefully Capcom will let him make the sequel, especially since it sounds like it was made with one in mind. As much as I love Phoenix, I don't think they can keep him around forever so hopefully this can find more success and Capcom will be open to the idea of other types of GS games with different characters.

Though I have to say I still wish we could get a Ghost Trick sequel instead, all that design work into making the villains in that game could've been put to use in another game. But I guess sales were far too low for that one.

Curious to see that PS4's SKU for DQH is not included with the sales. Are you going by individual SKU sales only? Thanks.

Typically speaking Japanese sales charts don't bundle up platforms. The PS4 version isn't included in that list because as of last reporting it did 311k.

Right, the movement of Rhythm Heaven and the inclusion of Yokai Watch Busters knocked the PS4 version of DQH off of that list.

4 million is not tiny and Vita has plenty of games with legs, the newest one being Minecraft.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here.
It is Minecraft. Put Minecraft on the ouya and it will still sell.

Would a yw on wiiu sell?

Nintendo should pay for it before the bubble burst.

Not sure about PS4 digital.

Capcoms best HD remaster was MHP3rd if that counts.
