Uncharted Collection Drops Forced Motion Controls from Uncharted

Did you play the first Uncharted? Did you enjoy when you had to use the motion sensor in the PS3 controller to keep hero Nathan Drake balanced as he walked across a log? If your answer is yes, you’re weird. If no, well, you might be happy to know that motion control for log-crossing has been excised from this collection, according to a rep for the game’s original development studio, Naughty Dog. They are leaving a motion control option (not mandatory) for tossing grenades.

thought they were annoying but didn't have to use it allot so Yeah..

I actually found grenade throwing motion controls sorta useful in that you could more easily see where your grenade was gonna land on far throws cause you didn't have to pan your camera up.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Does the DS4 even have motion control built in?

Yea...that and bits of the Vita and Move.

When you think about it Sony did a good job mashing the different features together. Some features are optional.

Yep, I thought motion controls for grenades was actually quite handy.

I don't think motion controls were the issue with grenades. If they're going to be useful in a firefight, they need to be handled more like Halo, where you just point and throw.

If anything the motion controls kinda worked for the arc thing. I just didn't like the arc thing.

How bout a patch to skip the jet ski parts

I almost quit the game entirely over the jet ski sections combined with the exploding barrels and the enemies who can snipe you from a football field away with a handgun.
Uncharted is such a great series, but there's one or two sections in every entry that are just flat out anti-fun.

Believe it or not this was my biggest worry about the uncharted collection. I really didn't like the motion controls for the first game -- but now that they are gone I'm a happy camper!

I didn't mind the motion controls in Uncharted 1, which is odd because the touch and motion controls absolutely ruined Golden Abyss for me.

I don't even mind the whole walk-over-the-log-and-balance-left-and-right when it's done naturally, but the way Golden Abyss lets you walk halfway, then it stops you and makes you complete the balancing minigame before it lets you continue on. Ugh. And don't even get me started on the charcoal rubbing, or the dirt rubbing, or the vine cutting. Or holding the damn camera up to a naked lightbulb and STILL being told to get closer to a light. In fact fuck that game. What the fuck were they thinking.

'Forced' motion controls ..? Lol. Its part pf the controller and itd a gameplay mechanic for a small section, i dont know if you can call it 'forced'.. Is pressing the buttons to do stuff also forced then?

I'm one of the few people who actually liked using the gyro. The indirect input does suit some things like balancing on a log or capturing monsters in Folklore. The main issue was the gyro performance was inconsistent between different controllers probably due to bad qa (I think maybe some people learned to hate it because they had a bad gyro in their controller). I tried several sixaxis controllers and later dualshock 3 and some were just terrible and a lot less accurate than others. Presumably the one in the Dualshock 4 is better?

The motion controls for refining grenade and sniper aiming is really great.

I really did not think they were that intrusive. The "balancing" motion controls were pretty innocious too. I wouldn't have wasted time removing them. Guess they are trying to save face from any opinion that would paint the original as being antiquated by fads. UC1 I still think is the best of all the games. It's AI is far above most games that release today and is a far cry from the trash AI in UC2.

That stuff was lame but the gyro for fine aim correction in Golden Abyss was great in my opinion.

UC1 definitely has the best storytelling but I'm pretty sure most people would agree that the arenas in UC2 are much better in part because the AI has different awareness states which allow semi stealth sneaking.

In UC1 I saw complex flanking and collaboration between A.I., they were well aware of the player's last known location. They would responsively look for cover. They were also vulnerable, and would be much smarter and lethal (accurate/swift) in hard mode.

Hard mode UC2 everything just became a bullet sponge and would walk straight towards you. I really did not experience the stealth as being any much better in UC2 than 1. 3 certainly was an improvement on stealth and a return to form of the tight gameplay of 1.

I realize this is an Unpopular opinion because for many 2 is the best and can do no wrong. Oh I also found 2 to have the most buggy platforming of the games. So many times drake would just glitch out, do his own thing, not grab something that he should be responding to. Ugh... makes me mad.

Anyways I just replayed the series, loved 1 and 3. 2 was a chore playing again once the canned scripted scenes were no longer fresh. I think I'll pick this up for 1 and 3 and multiplayer though.

Was waiting for Golden Abyss mention. While I wouldn't say they ruined the game I will say the shoehorned motion/touch controls were annoying. I did like fine tuning my aim with the gyro though.

I liked using the motion controls in Skyward Sword to balance while walking across a log. I've never played uncharted because I didn't have a PS3, but I would have liked them to keep these controls in the collection which I'll be getting for PS4. Why does the ds4 have a gyro if not for this kind of thing?

Using motion controls to throw a grenade seems weird though, waggle controls instead of a button are usually just inaccurate and don't add anything. (Edit: nvm what I said, I see it's tilt to aim not shake to throw, I will use this option then.)

Never understood why they used them for the log sequences in the first place, theres like all of two in the whole game and you can get through them without even bothering to do the motion stuff by just holding forward and mashing x when you slip. Being so minor made it feel weird to me instead of a natural part of the controls (compared to something like the Tornado Gun in Ratchet which i think is brilliant and a good use of the sixaxis).

How about making it optional..?

For throwing grenades it worked pretty well and intuitively imho. Hope for people that are going to buy the collection that they didn't ditch that.
