PSV 7/23 Makai Shin Trillion [9/8/8/9]

  • Clear time is 25 hours. Clear time for all characters is 80+ hours.
  • Watching the heroines that you've raised die one after another draws you in
  • Dying skills are dramatic and awesome
  • Game is difficult, but fair
  • Simultaneous turns are like complex puzzles that keep you on the edge
  • Love and battle portions are streamlined well
  • Would have liked to have seen a better UI and more commands
  • Very decent romance story, balance with the gameplay is superb

Raising your girls causes you to get attached to them. They're all so cute! All of them are best girl!
I cried when Mammon died. Trying to kill Trillion without letting a girl die is despair.
It's a fun game, and I'm sorry, but I have to take off points for it making me feel too sad. Ahhh, Levia died too...

The Battle phase plays like a roguelike. You have to predict how Trillion will move in order to avoid his attacks. Mistakes are heavily punished.
It's basically impossible to avoid having your girls die.
I easily recommend this game if you like raising simulations.
80/100

I was indifferent to the characters at first, but the more I got to know them....
Raising mode is selecting commands to raise your girls' stats and abilities. You're motivated to train because you know that their lives literally depend on it.
I really hesitated when deciding who would die. It's proof of how much I was invested in the characters.

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
Envy best girl confirmed.

Went and ordered the LE anyways for the OST that comes with it. Plus the price was not too much different from the standard ed. on Amazon.

Nice work with the character selection image. Ive always considering doing things like that but since its a pain in the ass would scrap the idea lol. The banners you made look good too, interesting use of the menu bar from the OHP but works very well.

The Amiga Brotherhood
Great OP, honestly i have some doubts on the variety of the training levels, but i can't wait to hear gaf impressions and see more screensots :)
And yeah envy and faust best girls.

Btw AHB when the game is out you might want to do up a FAQ also. Granted I highly doubt we will be having many importers considering that this is one of those stats raising intensive type of games.

Looks like once again the game schedule will be swapped once the title arrives around noon I reckon.

Wait, so people you control pretty much always die? I hate it when that happens, and feel I'll hate it even more in this. :(

You got me interested on this by that awesome OT. Good job!

Also I don't think I can take raising someone just to watch her die. But I'll sure as hell try.

Can't wait till its inevitable localization and hopefully by then someone would have found a way to beat the game with everyone alive. I don't like feeling despair :(

Also your little sister is
Wrath
?

Parakeetman

Then I guess no death run for this game is impossible? :(

Id imagine its possible, but only after fully understanding the games mechanics / putting in a lot of time & effort.

Knowing JP players, someone will most def be attempting it.

Subscribed. Now I want to buy this game after reading the OP. The game come out tomorrow? Since I'm living in Japan, I'll buy this game tomorrow and leave some impressions here

I thought about doing one, but honestly my knowledge of the game doesn't really extend beyond what's in the OP (and even some of that might be wrong)! When impressions etc are out and I know more myself then I'll add one if it'll be useful. Also I'm not actually importing the game myself, so I'm looking forward to your opinions on it.

But you can kill off characters you don't like! Who could ask for more?

Also your little sister is
Wrath

I believe the jury's still out on this.
Some people think it's Zeabolos himself, but he isn't labelled as 'Wrath' in his website profile, where as all the other Sins are specifically tagged.

Oh? Had thought you would be importing it also considering the amount of interest you have had in the title for a while. Depending on how the title actually goes this might be one of those that drops in price fast, so that might help with others who were looking to import, though usually import shops dont drop their prices, which means having to go through one of those forwarding services and purchasing from amazon.

Wonder how many folks we will have in general who will be importing outside of those who have already chimed in in the thread.

Ill be able to play for about a week as after that will have to take care of the Ray Gigant OT stuff. Though plan on blowing through that game in a few days or less if possible. After that would return to this title I think as its something that most def would need more time put into it to understand.

Looking forward to its arrival tomorrow, thats if it makes it on time considering am in the middle of nowhere currently. lol

Nice OP! I had seen pictures of this game, but I didn't realize it was going to be anything like this until reading the OP. Seems quite sadistic, I'm in if it's localized

Its already up on IFI's website so the chances of it getting localized are approximately 100%.

I don't really do much JP games importing. It's only for things I'm hugely interested in which I think don't have a chance of being localised, or where the language barrier isn't a concern. The dialogue seems pretty important to the experience in this one. Or at least, it won't be as heartbreaking / enjoyable to send cute girls off to their deaths without understanding what's being said.

yeah id imagine with this game knowing japanese is kinda important to the overall experience

Oh man this looks good! Unfortunately the language barrier is going to stop me from importing. Glad to see it is getting positive reception and I will keep an eye on it for further news.

Tempted to bite cause it just seems so weird.

Music is pretty good as expected, the 2d story scenes am wondering if they are using live2d for the animations? The 2D artwork used in the story dialog sections is really nice too.

At least the game isnt too expensive. Was surprised that the LE was not that expensive on Amazon.

Id imagine this game would make a nice article for your website. :D

That's what I was thinking. If it's terrible, hey, new terrible game to write about.

If it's good, rad.

Haven't gotten to update the site much the past few weeks because I've been packing and getting ready to move. OTL

I wonder if he would be playable later on

was an amusing "tutorial" showing just how insane the fight is against Trillion.

I still bet his little sister becomes wrath instead.

----

Better put aside a good amount of time to play this as the intro is pretty long story wise.

Jeez Battleship, you really went above and beyond the call of duty making this. That's some crazy dedication.
I like your font choice, it's pretty neat.

Anyway, there's a Japanese list of trophies here. Beware big fat spoilers. It's mostly simple stuff but there are two or so neat ones.
I'm sure they were joking with the names of the rankings, but given it was really close to A(which is defined as "financial success/recouping costs"), I'm really interested in seeing next week's Media Creates sales numbers.

What is your impression about the game so far? It was raining hard today so I couldn't go out to buy it

Lots of story. With the time Ive had Ive only recently selected Envy as my first pick. I was considering choosing someone else to learn the system more with first, but just said fuck it and picked her first lol.

From the tutorial against trillion you can see how crazy the battles will be. Plus how important moving in the correct direction is. Otherwise you wind up wasting a turn which can cause some bad things to happen lol.

Also its insane when trillion has multiple attacks being lined up and you need to pay attention to the colors on the ground as it turns from yellow -> orange -> red lets you know when it will be activated along with the area of effect represented on the grid. But its hard to tell at times when there are multiple attacks being lined up, so you need to take time to pay close attention to that. At the moment am not too happy with the camera either, but I should get used to that.

Voice work and 2d artwork is real nice music is great also so am glad I got the LE with the OST.

But this most def is a game I would not suggest to those who understand Japanese as with how it seems that a lot of the game will be these story bits (dialog) and you will be missing out on a lot if you just skip it all to get to the gameplay.

Do think that this will be something that you will play constantly just due to either running out of characters and having to learn the system. Since there is a limited amount of time for raising your characters while Trillion sleeps in between battles with him.

Im still working on learning all of the stuff with the raising your character. As seriously the intro is quite long lol.

This is looking like a lot of stuff to remember.

Yeah AHB did a real good job with the resources available. Very nice.

---------------

Seems like there are also events that are not voiced in the game. For those who might have been expecting full voice.

Oh man I most def think I should not have picked my favorite character as the first one to use... to others who will be starting the game, pick someone you dont care as much about from the starting 3 they will give you. Since most def you dont want to be fumbling around with your favorite character from the get go and wind up having her getting killed against Trillion lol. Which I can already see happen to me. Even more so considering I dont know exactly much about what type of builds I want to go with stats wise etc.

This most def will not be a game for those who cant decide on things easily or have a short attention span.

Parakeetman

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
just beat the training battle against the mokujin trillion. used way too many items and almost killed myself due to the not inputting the diagonal movement correctly. i think i just figured out how to move diagonally painlessly though if im wrong its vack to hating diagonal movement as it is pretty crucial for survival.

seems like you hold down square select the direction then release square when you are happy with the direction your character will move.

basically used for diagonal movement

so far doing not too bad but can imagine the real trillion fight will be a nightmare considering how many options they are giving me with game mechanics.

It's really rare for a new IP to appeal to me as much as this one has, so I wanted to give it a good showing and hopefully spread a bit of interest. Plus if it gets localised then my work for the OT will largely be done. Two birds with one trillion stones.

Oh boy. Yeah, picking your best girl first is crazy, since your initial choices are basically cannon fodder with no hope of winning. You want to send your least favourites to their deaths early on so that the superior options are around for the endgame. Fortunately Greed and Gluttony are both selectable right at the start, meaning I can easily RIP them before anyone else.

Enjoying your impressions/despair by the way. If it's any consolation, if you max out your relationship with Envy before she gets vaporised then you can potentially revive her.

But you can get your first girl to max affection and revive her later, right? Also, what about Faust? She's not playable but still one of the characters you can raise affection, right?

Right now in the story it does not seem like you can raise affection with Faust. As she only appears in story / mini-events or at her lab-shop.

Affection is raised by the mini events you can trigger in the rest menu or the item menu by giving gifts that the particular demon you are using likes.

It's really rare for a new IP to appeal to me as much as this one has, so I wanted to give it a good showing and hopefully spread a bit of interest. Plus if it gets localised then my work for the OT will largely be done. Two birds with one trillion stones.

Ill have to try that since shes currently at 68% due to getting lucky with the makai-gacha which is you use these special coins in a machine that you can try for random gift items for the girls. Got 2 of Envy's favorite ones so that did a HUGE boost to it.

Man its funny how some of the events will screw you over and its random with what outcome occurs with the choices you get it seems. So even if a same mini-event pops up the outcome wont always be the same.

Am running out of time so gotta try and get her affection to 100% D: but dont have enough coins D:::::::::::
Got it to 100% nothing seemed to change though.

Really do think I made a mistake by picking Envy first, since if the other girls died at least their stats would have been transferred to her making her stronger than starting out first string like this. Though so far I think the training is going well. Still though so many passive skills and active ones that I want but the various costs are pretty high. So that means sacrificing stats upgrades.

-------

This game must have some crazy ass scenario branching considering it has to take into consideration the deaths of the other characters & order they died in and such. Would prefer not to find out though considering Im using Envy from the start. D: Really like her character.

Interesting the LE of the game the price went up by 2000 JPY so its around 9500 JPY on amazon via marketplace hyenas. Will be a while I suppose till we see more accurate responses to the game, as this most def is something that people have to spend time on.

---------

Finally the game gave a tutorial on how to move diagonally easier than the square button method was talking about. All you have to do is rotate the camera so its facing diagonally then you just press forward to move in that direction. Way easier than the other method was messing with.

Btw would suggest playing this on the PSVTV. Since does look really nice. Not to mention you will be staring at text and numbers most of the time. Also the fucking grids in the actual battles. lol

Am at the point where I can beat mokujin pretty much every mock battle now, but know the fight against Trillion will be a lot worse. Am on my final week now before the real fight.

Id have to say the largest problem is most def money. Which is used to upgrade your weapon, buy new attachment slots for it, buying items from the shop and helpers to assist in battle against trillion. Which do imagine is a pretty important part of the game system. Just Im too broke to buy any at the moment lol. There is a command to collect $$$ but have not touched it yet. Went and did it once gained about 10k from collecting cash from the citizens. Wonder if there is any downside from doing it too much? But there does not seem to be any other way to really go about making $$$ at the moment, outside of the dungeon that costs 5 coins. Even then its a bit random. Selling items doesnt make much money either and is more not suggested personally since you would want to keep those to raise affection with the other demons if your current one dies.

When I get back will be the first real fight against Trillion. This should be interesting... Do plan to run at the first sign of things going wrong in an attempt to continue to level Levia.

Parakeetman

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
Figured would do up a new post due to having my first real fight against Trillion. Managed to deal almost 54 million damage to him the real count was

59億9458万7569ダメージ

Though I just realized something which I should have though about in the first place. This game most def is going to be one of those where the lower the bosses HP gets there will be specific cut off points where its attack pattern will change. Similar to an MMO boss. So all of the early on stuff is the easy attacks. Also seems like its actions change depending on the players location relative to the boss itself.

Such as while the rear where the tail is, would be the most safe, Trillion will continuously advance towards the defense line with its jumping stomp attack. If Trillion reaches the defense line its instantly game over it seems.

You can retreat from battle, but the disadvantage to doing that are two main things. 1 is the time (Trillion sleeps) you get to continue with training your current demon is shortened. The second is that by not dealing a lot of damage such as with the final before death of a character attack, Trillions advance with eating the world will be greater. Since damage dealt to Trillion in the battle is what shortens his consumption of the world itself. So the higher damage the less of the world Trillion will consume. When he reaches the core of the world it is also game over. Therefore thinking you will be able to constantly run and keep powering up your current demon is not exactly the best plan as I have just learned.

Its insane to think that this thing has 1 trillion life. Thats some gigawing numerical value shit. lol

The up side here is I didnt lose Levia. As most def am not going to be happy if that happens.

Overall so far am quite impressed with the game. As story / design wise this is quite original. Though once again it is not something Id recommend to a person who has little or no Japanese language skills due to missing out on the majority of the games content. As actual combat is not something that is very frequent.

One other interesting thing I found out during my first assault on Trillion is that you can break off that white shell (armor) that covers his body. Managed to do that to his tail and by doing so the damage dealt increases it seems. Am not sure if that grows back during his resting period though. Hope not. So with that in mind would imagine its possible to break the ones on his arms and lower body also.

Another small problem is Levia is a melee type of character, therefore you will be wasting a lot of points if you try to turn her into a magic user. But it seems that from what the magic skills show that it would make it easier to do long range attacks on Trillion from the front to help slow down the amount of times he does that forward advance jump stomp. Since he performs other actions such as the beam from his mouth or pounding the ground with his fists + upswing. Also being able to hit his fists during the time before the upswing.

The stat for Character speed is important as it dictates the amount of time it takes for Trillions skills to activate.

I swear to god am gonna fill up the vita mem card with save files for this game.

Thanks for the continued impressions, really interesting stuff, especially how the whole thing progresses.
Amusingly, Compile Heart released another trailer a few hours ago that answers/confirms some of what you say/ask. It's pretty much 2 minutes of combat explanations including what I assume to be slight midgame spoilers.

I've said this elsewhere, but I have slight concerns about localization possibilities. I think my main points were basically genre(SRPG/SimVN+being on Vita), large amounts of text/voice to pay for, and the whole affection mechanic with your family. I'm thinking all those things might torpedo its chances westward.
I'm probably worried for nothing but still.

Ill have to watch that at another time I think, since still want to try and figure things out on my own haha.

Yeah there is a lot of text in the game, would imagine they would not want to dub it either, since the genre itself this is pretty niche and the way this title is designed its a bit of a crapshoot with if it would resonate well or not with folks.

Well, I hope you're wrong about all that, I think this game looks great!

OT: Fantastic job with the OT, love it.

Its not a matter of how the game looks but how it plays. Since realistically people who are just looking at the graphics and not paying attention to the games actual design will be let down I do believe.

I'm in an OT about the game. I've read all your posts about it ! And I've watched pretty much every promo video about it.

My "looks good" referred to everything about the game, not simply the graphics. Which I don't think look particularly good, since we're on the subject.

In that case you should be fine then, but its a constant trend Ive been noticing is folks who are just paying attention to graphics and nothing else. Then when the time X game comes out said person either is never around or is constantly complaining due to said title not meeting whatever expectation they had created in their head lol.

This title seriously is a lot of stats crunching thats why so its not as action based. But do think its quite unique and the gameplay of raising your characters stats and the sole purpose of stopping Trillion.

Compile Heart have put up an apology on their website for stock shortages. Not sure how regular an occurrence this is with them, but I'll take it as a positive sign for sales regardless.

Updated the OP with the video, thanks. I'm choosing not to get my hopes up over localisation. That way my soul won't be shattered into a trillion fragments if it doesn't come westwards.

Great stuff again. If you'd rather figure things out on your own then I won't say much in response, but IIRC the website says a demon can't retreat
if they run out of relationship points (the points you can use in place of HP/MP)
, so bear that in mind if you're trying to keep Levia alive. It also has a page on revival here, and it suggests that
you need all 6 sins to be dead first
. I'm assuming it'll come up / be explained later in the game.
