Hey guys, what's the combined worldwide userbase of PS3 and PS4 ?

I'm thinking it's gotta be over 100M by now. I'm still thinking DQXI will be announced for both of Sony's consoles.

And although the original Wii went on to sell over 100M systems, I don't think it had reached that point when DQX was announced for it at the end of 2008.

Correct, but as far as I remember, the word used for physical controls was one used to refer to an actual controller, not just buttons.

By definition, portable ocnsoles use controllers. It's built into the device, but you use a "controller" to play the game.

We'll know in 24 hours so at this point, it's rather moot to discuss what a month old interview really meant

Approaching or just over 120 million. In Japan it'd be around 11-12 million.

The word used specifically referred to controllers as far as I remember. It wasn't saying "controller" in some nebulous manner. As in the separate device, not part of some handheld. Manettes, the thing when Googled gives you a bunch of pictures of 360 and PS3 controllers.

But fine, whatever.

The PS3 was at 78 million in december 2013, and that was a shipment number.

It's highly unlikely that it has shipped an another 20 millions in the past 18 months for the combined shipments of both PS3 and PS4 to be "over 120 millions".

Yeah, I've never heard anyone refer to handheld controls as a manette in French. Manette = game controller, separate from the console.

Nah - http://us.playstation.com/corporate...3-sales-reach-80-million-units-worldwide.html

Tokyo, November 6, 2013– Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced that cumulative sales of the PlayStation®3 (PS3®) computer entertainment system has reached a milestone of 80 million units*1 worldwide as of November 2, 2013. Now in its seventh year, the PS3 system has demonstrated continued growth and momentum.

My estimate was incredibly rough, but I don't see how its impossible for PS4 to have reached 90 million since December 2013 and PS4 must be approaching 25 million at this point. That's 115 million bro.

Manette is the word we use in France to name a controller and many of my friends used "la manette du gameboy" or "la manette de la DS" because that'S how they refer to the buttons and the pad on the device. But that's beside the point.

"The game was designed around a controller" or "The game was designed with a controller in mind" means that it's based around pad/thumbs/buttons inputs. Nothing more, nothing less. Otherwise, how would you name a game for portable consoles that's on them instead of mobiles because you want them to be played with buttons, pads and the like?

PS3 + PS4 should be around ~110 million WW now.

IIRC, ZhugeEX mentioned that PS3 should be in the 86-88 million territory WW (given that it's either close too or has beaten 360 numbers at this point). PS4's last official numbers are 22.3 million.

I'm still contemplating waking up 2 hours earlier to watch the livestream. Hmm...

The PS3 sales have tanked worldwide, just like the 360 ones.

Also 115 isn't OVER 120 bro

More to the point, in january 2013 Sony announced 77 million consoles shipped, by november, it had shipped an another 3 million units. You believe that, somehow, the PS3 has shipped 3 times that number of consoles in twice the time? That PS3 shipments have accelerated?

The only thing accurate would be your 25 million PS4 shipped.

You're selectively picking parts out of my statement. I said it would be approaching OR over 120 million.

Now, looking back at Zhuge's thread here where Sony has sold 370 million PS Console to date, you can break it down yourself and see that PS3 is between 85-90 million units shipped. Even if you take 85 million, that's still a joint install base of 110 million when all is said and done.

As I say, it was a clearly a very rough estimate, so I don't know why you're taking my statement so definitively. Anyway, we're going severely OT here.

I found ZhugeEx's post to confirm you're right. Both 360 and PS3 should be around ~88 million: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=172806127&postcount=557

So basically ~110 million. Not a bad baseline but of course, not entirely relevant to a DQ game.

Does anyone have a link to the original Japanese of the interview? It is very possible that something got lost in the translation, ゲーム機 > console de salon > home console.

Seems so weird to try putting it on home console these days, my and most people's gaming time is during the commute to work.

I still hope there will be portable related news on tomorrow. Although DQXI on Home console already confirmed by Horii, but skipping portable device will make me sad. ;(

Glad they're doing YouTube as well, so I don't have to renew my premium Nico subscription just to avoid getting kicked off.

I also considered to subscribe Nico premium, but thanks to Youtube, I don't have to do this. ;) Youtube is my money savior.

Never used NicoNico. Why would you subscribe? The link says "*Niconico account not required for viewing."
At certain times and with popular streams they only allow a limited amount of people to watch to ensure stream quality, with premium users taking priority (so if they join the room and it's full then you get kicked so they can take the place).

Well that sucks.
And Youtube is blocking live streaming for this in Germany. So i hope that proxy works well with this :/

the only dq games i have are dq viii, dq vi, and rocket slime. i love rocket slime and adored dq viii. haven't made it far into dq vi though.

really hoping that this upcoming one is closer to dqvii in terms of the overall atmosphere. the lighthearted console jrpg in a medieval land is really rare these days.

I'm sorry, but after E3, until I see for my own two eyes, I'm taking everything everyone says, even directors, with huge grains of salt.

Then have fun doing that kind of thing quietly, in the comfort of your own home, and not misleading other posters with it.

I don't think you have anything to worry about, I am sure that DQXI will be like DQXI. ;)

I would say that all of the Dragon Quest games have a some what heavyhearted story that is surrounded by lighthearted characters. I would expect XI to be like that as well.

That was honestly my biggest worry. Without a subcription it would have been completely impossible to watch this reveal on Nico...

I wonder who will be the director considering Jin Fujisawa, the director for IX and X, has announced his departure from the series.
Honestly, I'm almost glad he left as I'm a little tired of the current formula and wouldn't mind at all something either closer to older titles or notably different.

Wait Germany blocks Youtube streams? I never knew that..
Well ... Germany itself doesn't ... but we have this little organization, called GEMA, who basically has legal fights with everything and everyone when it comes to media and online.

Youtube is their most favorite target. That is one result of GEMA'S work.
Some people say those fucktards are the true successors to the third reich ... really, fuck GEMA and everyone who works there.

On topic, i hope it's for Wii U / PS3 / PS4, got that western audience covered plus throwing a bone to those people who got Nintendo hardware because of SQEX idiotic teasing by releasing nearly everything DQ-related on 3DS until DQ Heroes...

I'm still not a 100% convinced it will be DQXI.

We'll see.

I think there was a tweet saying that the press has been informed that it'll be the next DQ. It's pretty much confirmed at this point.

The fact that there hasn't been a single DQ spin-off for Wii U makes it seem very, very unlikely. They've clearly been pushing the franchise towards Sony platforms ...despite the obvious money they'd have made on the 3DS.

I suppose there's a slim chance of it being on NX since it'll likely launch around the same time as the next DQ but my feeling is it'll be exclusive to Sony platforms.

If Wii U had gotten anything I'd have thought it would have been a port of Dragon Quest Builders... as creation software like that is really made for touch screens. The fact it didn't, doesn't bode well.

DQXI for PS3/4 is pretty much a lock, up to now. A Vita version is what could be still undecided (for us, of course), but anything else is a lock.
