Dragon Quest 11 Announced! [PS4/3DS (simultaneous), NX (tentative)]

I don't think that will happen. :-(

But the PS4 has no region lock, so you can import it.

Verendus said all PS Dragon Quest games are coming over; even Shu Yoshida is hyping DQ11 on twitter.

Not sure about the 3DS version getting localized though, since none of the other mainline DQ 3DS games got localized for the west.

The ps4 environments look great, but animation is painfully bad.

The 3ds version is brilliant tbh. Perfect anniversary title.

3DS version seems to run really smooth but is being played on N3DS. I wonder if it will have the same framerate on a regular one.

Wow who was talking about how SE should make this game with classic graphics in the speculation thread? They totally called it (at least on 3DS)

Are those going to be two different games? Or will both games still be structurally the same, despite the differences?

If it's the latter, I'll be at a loss as to which version I want to play. The PS4 version looks spectacular, but that 3DS gimmick is so incredibly cool.

They said the games have the same story. Seems to be a Ni no Kuni situation.

The PS4 version looks really early and they need to pick an artstyle. The visuals were clashing all over the place. The demo looked like something they whipped up really quickly.

The 3DS version looks really genius with it being a 3D and 2D game in one. Really clever.

3DS superior version confirmed

didn't think I'd be saying that

Outstanding.

I woke up and decided to check GAF and the whole time in my head I was thinking 3DS or PS4. I couldn't ultimately decide which prediction to make in my head.

I'll buy whichever one gets released here, even if it is both.

3DS version is a genius idea. As good as PS4 version looked, the 3DS version almost made it look like an afterthought.

Ps4 and 3ds versions are 2 different games. Not worried ps4 version will be held back by 3ds.

Have never played any dragon quest game. Will probably start with this.

Edit: so 3ds version is looking better? Strange.

Holy crap. Guess we're done with that "Dragon Quest has never been much of a looker" stuff. The footage they showed for the PS4 version looked so beautiful! Sure, the PS4 is capable of more, but this doesn't look out of place at all for the system.

I'm in from Day One, whenever it comes stateside. And I've got a feeling other people will be feeling the same way.

Hahaha, that is funny. All that divided speculation, for nothing. Never expected such a cross platform choice. Both versions look dope.

I was worried about two things: we wouldn't be getting a handheld version and we were never going to get the overhead view back.

This makes me very happy.

Wow, the PS4 version looks glorious! I love the field graphics. I'm definitely playing that version. The 3DS version didn't impress me (I think the DQVIII 3DS remake looks better so far), though the 2D on the bottom screen is quite innovative and could be really cool.

This suggests I feel the NX is to be a handheld that can better support this sort of business model. 3DS looks to be handling this just fine though.

I thought we were done with that by DQVIII? At least that and IX looked pretty nice for the respective hardware they were running on.

So far from what we've seen:

- The PS4 version is a full open-ish world 3D game with jumping, platforming, exploration, and is fully proportional in scale like DQVIII. They didn't show any battles, but enemies are visible on the field, and it seems really early.

- The 3DS version has 3D graphics on the top screen and 2D graphics on the bottom screen. Looks to be reusing a lot of existing assets, but looks great regardless. There's two versions of everything for 3D/2D - towns, fields, battles, event scenes, etc. If the player uses the analog slidepad, 3D battles will initiate and the battles on the field will be symbol encounters (you see the enemies and can avoid them), if you use the d-pad, battles will be in 2D and they will be random encounters.

- Currently the 3DS version looks way more complete than the PS4 one. But both are slated to be released within the Anniversary next year in 2016.

To be honest, I think it will be super confusing. I think it's a neat idea but kind of unnecessary.

I agree that the PS4 version looked early, but the art style was great IMO. It looked like typical Dragon Quest. Not really sure what you mean there.
