Always do back lights on TV's, figured I'd do one on my PC monitor for a change;

posted my living room setup before and nothing has really changed. But I tidied up my PC area and got a new monitor so thought I'd post that.

34" 3440x1440 AOC 21:9 monitor (literally just set it up so not calibrated yet), stand for phone on the left, PSTV with DS4, Xbox controller for steam games.

Very nice and clean.

In the last two months, I've purchased a 55" Sony KDL55W800b HDTV, Denon S700W receiver, Monoprice 10565 Premium 5.1 Surround Sound system, Nintendo Wii U, and Ikea Lappland and Kallax shelves. The shelves aren't organized yet, and a bunch a tools are just lying around everywhere, but it's presentable now. Forgive my budget phone pics.

Things are coming together in the living room, but it was a wreck for two days while I ran ghost speaker wire under the carpet.

What LED is the blue one? Looks bright as hell and I need a bigger one for my 21:9 monitor as well.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...ensity_R_C_LED_Flexible_Strip_Blue_1mtr_.html

I use them, had some strips I hadn't used from my quadcopter, but hobbyking is pretty cheap for a lot of little things like that in general, not just rc stuff. You just cut them to the length you need, the red one is the same product. Both I cut down which you do as you need, but the top strip runs most of the the length on my 34" monitor, the red only runs along the back of the stand so its only about 1/3 as long. Soldered them to a 110-240v AC adapter to 12v DC (1.5amp, but its usually 0.4amp per meter) converter. You could add a swich or something if you want, I'm lazy, I just plug and unplug at the wall.

Very bright.

mine at the moment, moving house soon so going to actually have a dedicated "study" room as the missus calls it

not the prettiest set up but once we own our new place i'll be running it through the skirting boards and what not

Oh. god. That's kinda ridiculous. But good for you!

One of those monitors is almost the same price as my entire computer in my country. (excluding peripherals). And that's a decent computer as well. (GTX 970, i5 3570k, 256 gig SSD)

Just added a new sign to the media room and, since I have enjoyed seeing the entertainment areas of fellow Gaf members, I thought I would share some of mine as well. Still some work left to do over time, but love how the space came out.

Where did these letters come from?

I love this.

But I also love it because... I'm debating adding a neon sign to my man cave.

That may sound way cheesy and weird to most people. But I'm from Hong Kong. Neon signs are an iconic part of this city's image, but they're also disappearing because LED signs are more efficient. We did a story on some of the last remaining neon sign makers here, and it gave me fresh appreciation for what they do. Thought it would be a nice little bit of local culture in here.

Just not sure what to make, though!

So I recently moved (exactly one month ago) and for the first time in my adult life, there was a room that was just right for a gaming space. I was going to post a load of pictures showing the work from start to finish, but I'll stick to just a few.

After I more or less stripped the room out.

The stripped the walls. But the plaster was shit, so had to put an anaglypta up to hide them

Hey guys, I took a bunch of photos of my nearing complete gaming setup, I have.. a few of them. I have a link here with a bunch of them but don't want to destroy the thread. The setup isn't entirely done as i'm still thinking about how to wire the security system, hide wires and organize a bit, as well as adding a few more consoles and of course, collecting more over time. Still, it's a lot of years work so it's worth showing off anyways to me :p

I took a bunch of pictures here http://s952.photobucket.com/user/goldenpp73/library/?sort=3&page=1

This is my primary setup where all my best modern equipment is used.

The remainder of the pictures are on the bottom level, this is my light gun station, it's a small cubby in the area that has a standard old tube TV with all light gun enabled consoles that I own in the stand. Behind it are also fold out chairs to use as there is no room in that part for permanent chairs.

Right next to that is a bedroom also filled with a bunch of stuff, including the main hub to play games that are prior to HD consoles.

The third setup of this area host both my computer and also another setup designed to handle HD consoles, obviously that category is pretty narrow right now but it's there for growth.

The rest of the pics are in the link, decided to just put some highlights there. I've enjoyed looking at these topics for so long that it feels nice to finally have one to call my own :p

This is incredible. I was always collecting and building toward a collection like this (and a similar display). In the end i moved so much in my life I never was able to complete it and I ended up selling most of it off (for a good profit lol).

But props to you, enjoy that awesome setup.

Sorry, yes, the bookcases. Servers blowing up in my face has caused my morning to become pretty frantic and I've lost my train of thought ;)

No worries! It's a cheap bookcase from Argos if memory serves! Inherited from my old flat, thought I'd make use of it!

Fantastic gaming space. Nice work!

I have a half-finished attic that has a room perfect for turning into a gaming space, I need to get motivated.

Thanks - well mine was created in less than a month! Just need to be dedicated.

Is it wrong that I knew you lived in england as soon as I saw the radiator and looked outside?

But really great job on the transformation, love the new floor.

I plan on adding a few more consoles to what I own. I do plan on owning basically every console ever made outside of just a couple like the odyssey consoles (which I just don't think would matter to own). I don't think I'll ever own a Neogeo either due to the cost of the system and games but that would be a nice dream since they look very fun.

I don't have any 100 percent complete collections but that is actually on purpose. Basically by collecting on over 30 platforms I felt it would be a lot cooler to just find games that were fun or interesting, I would say at least 95 percent of what I own is considered at least a good game. It took me forever to just make up a master list of games to find, but I still add to then once in awhile.

I really wanted just nothing but good qualify stuff since I started doing it for the sake of entertainment, so no copies of barbies horse adventure or cheetahman to be found.

Otherwise I have some posters I may hang up one day along with other decor, I want it to not look too tacky though but it's challenging. If you look at the pictures you'll notice a lot of games are facing forward or have empty space right near then, that was a system to reserve space on consoles I still want to buy on.

Unfortunately my snes and nes collection are in need of a lot of building but they are cost prohibitive, so I'm focusing on finishing my ps1, ps2 and genesis stuff right now.

As someone who works from home, the option is great to avoid the feeling of just sitting stationary all day.

Was just about to ask if anyone has the Ikea Lappland. Would I be able to fit a PS4/PS3/Xbox One on the left side shelves, and are the middle shelves able to be raised? They look a little low for something I'd want to fit below my TV.

Gaf I need some advice. I'm thinking of replacing the carpet on the second floor of my place with wood flooring. Is it worth it? It's about 1000sq ft plus stairs so how much can it cost?

Depends on the hardwood you use. You might wanna check to be sure there isn't hardwood existing underneath the carpet to begin with. My initial guess would be about $5000 give or take maybe a little bit more.

It completely depends on the wood and if you do it yourself. I did our living room and hallway. Was around 250 sq feet, it's tiring and a lot of prep work if you want to do it right.

I'd say if you do it yourself at LEAST 5k unless you find a great deal on the flooring. We got top of the line underpad and everything, and not very expensive wood because the house is not worth putting expensive flooring in, and still cost 2k

After seeing some of the setups here with backlights installed, I decided to get some cheap led strip and install some backlights of my own. Works quite nicely!

If only I figured how to take a better photo of the setup.

In the future we might paint the back wall dark, and probably put on some selves for memorablia and the like.
