Consolidated results for Q1 FY2015-

Sales and operating revenue (“Sales”) decreased by 0.1% compared to the same quarter of the previous fiscal year (“year-on-year”) to 1,808.1 billion yen (14,820 million U.S. dollars). Sales were essentially flat year-on-year mainly due to a decrease in Mobile Communications (“MC”) segment sales reflecting a significant decrease in smartphone unit sales and a decrease in Home Entertainment & Sound (“HE&S”) segment sales reflecting a decrease in unit sales of mid-range LCD televisions, substantially offset by the impact of foreign exchange rates and a significant increase in Devices segment sales reflecting the strong performance of image sensors. On a constant currency basis, sales decreased 7% year-on-year. For further details about the impact of foreign exchange rate fluctuations on sales and operating income (loss).

Operating income increased 27.1 billion yen year-on-year to 96.9 billion yen (794 million U.S. dollars). This significant increase was primarily due to an increase in operating income in the Music segment, reflecting the recording of a remeasurement gain, described below, and the impact of the increase in sales in the Devices segment. This increase was partially offset by the negative impact of foreign exchange rates in the MC segment and lower sales in the Pictures segment due to a decrease in theatrical and television licensing revenues for Motion Pictures.

Game Segment-

Sales increased 12.1% year-on-year (a 7% increase on a constant currency basis) to 288.6 billion yen (2,365 million U.S. dollars). This significant increase was primarily due to increases in PlayStation 4 (“PS4”) software sales and PS4 peripheral device unit sales as well as the impact of foreign exchange rates, partially offset by a decrease in PlayStation®3 (“PS3”) hardware and software sales.

Operating income increased 15.1 billion yen year-on-year to 19.5 billion yen (160 million U.S. dollars). This significant increase was primarily due to PS4 hardware cost reductions, the above-mentioned increases in PS4 software sales and PS4 peripheral device unit sales, partially offset by the negative impact of the appreciation of the U.S. dollar, reflecting the high ratio of U.S. dollar-denominated costs and the decrease in PS3 software sales.

Operating income in the current quarter also includes 4.7 billion yen (39 million U.S. dollars) of insurance recoveries related to losses incurred from the cyberattack on Sony’s network services including the PlayStation®Network in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2012. During the current quarter there was a 15.6 billion yen negative impact from foreign exchange rate fluctuations

Sony increased their forecast for PS4 shipments this year from 16 million to 16.5 million which means that they expect 38.8 million PlayStation 4's to be sold in worldwide by March 31st 2016.

How did bloodborne do for Sony? Did it shift consoles? I know gaf loves it, but we are the vocal minority in some cases. I ask as I'm playing through it now and I think it's a work of art. I just can't remember any TV ads for it. I'm just curious if it helped push units.

Slightly off topic.

Amazing numbers though. I love my ps4

Impressive numbers...

Just have to jump start Japan's console scene and PS4 could really get into another level of sales and market dominance.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Sorry ZhugeEX, I completely forgot you had dibs :p

Hence me retracting afterwards realizing you posted yours a moment later!

WTF? The PS4 by itself just shipped 50% of the total gaming hardware units this quarter. No price drop, and no "AAA Exclusive In a huge, established franchise"

Yeah, 2016 will be the year the PS4 takes over.

No worries mate haha. If I saw your thread I wouldn't have posted this. But I think I was too busy reading the report to notice if anyone else was posting this up haha!

Anyway. You guys should know that PS4 sold better this quarter than Xbox One + Xbox 360 + Wii U + Wii + 3DS combined....

You forgot the Vita :(

Fantastic sales. With some big titles coming up and the possibility of a price cut Sony are in such a strong position. Not sure where MS will go from here but they're not in a good position. They're in a position where things may just keep steamrolling in Sonys favour and it's almost impossible to stop unless they fuck up (ala the PS3).

At least nintendo can fill a slightly different niche and target a different market. They do are in a difficult spot though.

It'll be interesting to see if these sort of numbers continue. Perhaps the home console market can rebound somewhat from what was looking to be a really gloomy outlook.

And next quarter there will be the Destiny and MGSV bundles plus some stock in anticipation for the holidays.

I don't see a full $100 price cut yet at this rate.

And to think Uncharted 4 isn't even out yet.
well to be fair, 3rd parties still have the most true system sellers. But yeah, Sony has those deals sewn up too it seems. Batman, MGS5, Battlefront and Assassin's Creed bundles this year? whoa...

But yes, in regards to Sony's WWS, the three heavy hitters that has the greatest potential to spike hardware sales is unquestionably Uncharted 4, Gran Turismo 7, and God of War 4. I do expect SFV to be a hit as well.

PS4 sales thread! (Well Sony financial thread, but this is a gaming forum so close enough.)

It's 2:40 AM here. Time for drinking game.

Is Sony actually making money now? I'm always confused with profit/net worth/revenue
I think Kaz said this is the last year they would post a loss, so not out of the wood-work yet, but certainly turning it around and should be in the black next year.

While console wars and comparisons are cool for forums MS is making money on Xbox and have around 13 million Xbones sold, which is pretty great all things considered.

Consoles are healthy and well.
