Borderlands: The Handsome Collection |OT| All Jacked Up

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
Picked this up during the flash sale and I've been having a blast with The Pre-Sequel, it's amazing. I don't know why people hated on this game(even me). The Oz mechanic is fun, adds something you actually have to think about to combat scenarios, and it never really feels in the way like you think it would. It adds just enough variety to feel like classic Borderlands, but more.

Drop rates for purps and orange items are fantastic compared to the wasteland that is BL2. NPCs are a ton better with actually funny dialogue. There is some really bad dialogue as well, mostly from Jack or Jenny Springs, but enemies and random quest npcs are so much better than in previous iterations of the game. You really feel powerful in this game, thanks to the better drops I guess, but action skills also recover fairly fast, they're also really strong, jumping away and then slamming down to get people off you is a needing change to the combat. It makes things feel fresh, it's not just circle strafing or dying because too much shit is in your face. The added verticality of your movement, plus world design, gives you options you just never had before.

Technically for the most part it looks awesome and keeps a high framerate, there are situations where I've had frame drops or stutters, not due to how much shit is on the screen, but rather in wide open areas where you see too much of the world I guess while fighting something and the game doesn't know what to devote power to; the world, or the small part of it you're in, or something. It's hard to describe, but it will be like, if you move the camera the right way so the world is obstructed the stuttering stops immediately. I've also had a few bugs that were fixed just by saving and quitting, then loading again. One time I got hit by a cryo flower thing while in a Buggy at the exact moment I jumped out, and it set my movement speed to really low, and it wouldn't go away until I saved/quit and reloaded. Another was a quest enemy that wouldn't spawn because I had cleared out his zone a little bit before getting his quest, again, save/reload fixed it. Last one I can remember was with a basketball dude(this quest made me lol), he ran at a jump pad and there's an explosive container next to him, it's there for a reason later, but I blew it up before he jumped and it broke the quest so he never even jumped he just ran forward, stopped. And that was it. Save/reload fixed it.

The game has some minor issues, but overall I think it's amazing and definitely worth playing.

I dont recall anybody hating the Pre-sequel. I kind of get the criticisms of it having the feel of a glorified expansion pack, but it still was reasonably well received. My only criticism is that many of the story missions lasted a bit too long.

However, I do feel sorry for 360/PS3 owners who bought the season pass. That was one of the worst $30 values I have ever seen, which was completely opposite of BL2. Claptraps DLC was pretty good, although it could be had for $10.

Apprently I missed the sale, which I never even knew existed. But it reminded me that I am really wanting to get this game, so I bought it off Walmart.com for $40 (was $38 after tax using my discount card). So not quite $30 like the PSN sale, but I would have had to spend another $10 if it caused me to go over my data cap from my ISP anyway, so it kind of works out.

So now I have the game! Can't wait to start playing. I missed almost all of BL2 (and didn't play any DLC either), and TPS will be completely new to me, too.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Picked this up during the flash sale and I've been having a blast with The Pre-Sequel, it's amazing...

Put a large chunk into it after playing BL2 in this collection(my first play for both, despite doing everything in BL1 way back).

Definitely felt it was a step-down from BL2 in terms of environment design, missions, and writing. It improved certain aspects of the game design and I dug the added verticality, but most of the NPC's really fell flat and traversing the moon got old way too fast with too many 'junked' moon-bases' to wander through. Just as a direct comparison to the sheer variety of locales Pandora offered in BL2.

Definitely not bad though. but felt many of the critiques were spot-on in reviews after my time playing.

The biggest issue is the cringeworthy writing.

the biggest issue is that as an borderlands fan bought all the dlc on 2 consoles.

i did not care for the last one.

I bought this game finished borderlands 2 again. and didn't even TRY the presequel.

Playing through Pre-Sequel as a tank build Athena. Having fun with it so far. Only technical issue I have encountered are some instances of texture pop-in. Framerate seems stable

Was thinking about picking this up today......BL2 is one of my favorites from last-Gen and I'd love to give this a go. Can anyone tell me big the online playerbase on PS4 seems to be these days? A good amount of people playing, or......is it dead, Jim?

I haven't checked myself but a few Gaffers wrote that they didn't have any issues finding party members. Worse comes to worse, we could always organize some sessions in this OT. I know I would be down

Oh my goodness, its unreal how amazing BL2 on PS4 feels after my time playing it on PS3. The 60fps and DS4 make it a whole new experience.

I forgot how huge a game Borderlands 2 is. Man does it put similar titles to shame.

Still holds up too.

Couldn't get far into The Pre-Sequel though. Feels very much like undercooked DLC. None of the character classes have called to me - Its got some jank - enemies tend to pop up all around you or drop on you so battles can feel random and messy. I dunno - all it takes is five minutes in Borderlands 2 to see how much more polished every last aspect of that game is.

Borderlands 2 is Gearbox at its best.

I actually really enjoyed The Pre-Sequel. I recently started Borderlands 2 again on PS4 and the gameplay is nowhere near as fun or as satisfying as TPS' imo. The low-grav in TPS is missed greatly.

Can't wait to see what they do with the next one.

I quit once I put a good amount of time in and went back to do a second playthrough of Borderlands 2. I hope none of the changes found in the Presequel survive.

First time playing Boardlands and I am having loads of fun. Much better loot game and more satisfying than Diablo 3 was (thanks to the slow difficulty progress). I was a bit weary to try this series due to a lot of negative I read from people. The gun play fun even if it is not that tight and feels floaty compared to other shooters.

My only big critisism is the lack of fast travel portals! There are a lot of areas are in need for vehicles or better short cuts as it takes way too much time walking from one part of the map to another if you cant teleport to some place. I suppose another gripe is how little different every class feels outside its special moves. It takes way too much time before you get to use some new abilities or skills. It is sure grindy but it is enjoyable at least. I cannot say the humour is any appealing but I appreciate the different tone than the serious ones in most games these days.

Really impressed with how the PS4 version runs. No PhysX which sucks, but everything else is top notch. I was able to transfer my character from PC and continued playing on my (now) platform of choice.

Wait you were able to transfer your PC character to PS4? Please explain? I've been looking for a way to do this.

I've been wondering, at what point should I start The Pre-Sequel? Like after I beat the main BL2 and the DLC packs? Or should I try and do all of the other stuff as well?

I'd say you should at least beat BL2 first, because the events in TPS actually start after BL2's conclusion. The actual story is a flashback to between BL1 & 2.

I actually thought the story in TPS was really cool. I really enjoyed seeing where all the bots came from, how constructors were formed, Jack's rise in power, it was really cool after playing so much of BL2.

Also the Doppelganger was a pretty fun class.

It's nowhere near as deep as BL2, but still an overall fun experience.

Finally got around to beating this. I bought the original PS3 version of TPS and only played a few hours of it. I started True Vault Hunter Mode and am getting my ass beat pretty bad. My best weapon is the lvl 27 Rustler's Quad Shotgun (202x20 Damage). Anyone have any tips on a good weapon I could get at a relatively low level that is good?

Okay, but I also wonder about the end game stuff of both games. Like is BL2 better to keep playing after it's conclusion?

The BL2 endgame is amazing. It's even better now with the improved drop rates.

I had to start over from scratch because I didn't know how to convert a PC save to XB1. I've got a Siren and Commando to OP5. Still haven't started TPS.

A quick Google search shows many people having trouble finding people on current gen systems vs last gen. I'm definitely one of em. Can only find 3 games max in BL2 on current gen vs 20 or more on my 360. Really dissapointing.

If anyone ever wants to play, my Xbox GT is Mixoiydian.

I believe they tripled drop rates. The mobs with higher chance were previously like 3% right? So now it's 9-10% which is pretty good.

So I finished The Pre-Sequel, I thought it was a fantastic game overall, it lasts just long enough. Unfortunately some areas later in the game have big framerate issues still and the environments aren't all that diverse, but it was worth playing through. I've finished BL2 2-3 times in the past, but I'm currently playing through again trying to get the Platinum. I really miss the new weapons from the Pre-Sequel, but it's still as fun as ever. I have noticed minor framerate stutters here and there, nothing like TPS though. What I do notice frequently is gigantic frame drops, which doesn't bother me a ton, but it's annoying none the less. Also the draw distance for plants and stuff is goddamn tiny, and far away enemies have super low-res textures(you only really notice when sniping). It seems like these games should be able to run way better, I guess that's what happens when you outsource ports.

Now I've never done the DLC for BL2 before, any of it, what level should I start it? I'm currently level 28 and have done every quest up to finishing the Opportunity zone. I ended up in the Tiny Tina DLC back at level 21 or so and noticed everything was level 28-29. Should I do it now, or will it scale to my level after finishing the game?

The DLC scales based on the mode. Normal caps at 30-35. TVHM caps at 50. UVHM scales to max.

On normal, you can't do all the core content and the DLC and maintain a challenge throughout. If you plan on playing them, I'd recommend waiting until TVHM or UVHM to play it all.

Figured I'll have more chances of a reply here than the BL2 thread.

I'm at lvl 60 UVHM with my Mechromancer, up to that Wild Preservation center where Bloodwing gets captured. That mode can be really tough sometimes to solo, still a decent challenge even with legendary weapons, but the biggest piece of shit enemies are the Constructors and Crystalisks. These guys just.won't.die. And you're pretty much guaranteed to die a few times before you find a safe spot to slowly kill them(which can take up to 5 mins). And you're forced to kill some of those Constructors to continue the main story, which kinda piss me off.
At least I can sort of avoid the Crystalisks or just summon Deathtrap as a decoy while I run away... no amount of slag damage can make both of them die any quicker.
Tried killing that Blue Crystalisk for a quest yesterday... I said "fuck it" after my first attempt, not worth the time.

Is there any sort of PC mods for this game that can help make UVHM less of a pain in the ass?

I also haven't done the DLCs yet... do they have annoying enemies such as the examples above in UVHM? I almost think I should go back to TVHM if I wanna enjoy them, even if I know that will make all the enemies and loot drop to lvl 50. At least I won't die all the freaking time.

Yea this was a common complaint when UVHM first came out, I'm a little apprehensive about getting there myself.

I was hoping Gaige's Anarchy skill would help offset it somewhat. Does that help at all?

Also at the beginning of my TVHM run I farmed a level 34 Unkempt Harold, and at level 40 it is still destroying everything. Maybe try farming one of those, I think all enemies scale to your level in UVHM so you could get a level 60 one. It's an easy item to farm in Three Horns.

Also I don't believe Constructors can be slagged.

I'd recommend an Unkempt Harold as well, a Double Penetrating (DPUH) in particular.

An easy way to farm them is in the Torgue DLC. Farm coins in the bar brawl in Pyro Pete's Bar. You can do this on normal, and then switch over to UVHM to buy a DPUH from the vending machines.
