Great OS. Haven't had any big issues with it, so I am really happy.
Installed it on one stationary and two laptops already. :p

Good job MS.

Well, balls...

Tried putting win 10 on my laptop, it wont find video drivers. its an hp dv6605, so its like 7 years old+. Kinda sucky and gives me weariness about doing my pc, which is custom built this spring.

am i screwing myself by only using 8gb ram?

Control-Alt-Delete. Open task manager. Choose to see more details. Click on the Performance tab.
See how much memory is being used as you use the computer.
I'm only using 22% of 8GB RAM while browsing with 3 tabs open and playing music. Also some photos are being uploaded in the background.

I'm loving it so far. Upgrade went very smoothly, and left me with no desire to do a clean install.

The only hiccup I can find is that when I first sign on after a cold boot, the screen flickers the background color I selected. It's less than a second, and that's the only time it occurs. That aside I'm very happy with it.

So far I like everything except:

01. You gotta go way out of your way to get to what would be "normal" privacy settings
02. You need to opt out of being a bandwith conduit for other people's updates
03. App icons on the left side of the start menu should be transparent, like they are on the task bar

Edge performs really well as a browser. Good for using when I don't want to open up Chrome and the attending extensions. I did an upgrade over Windows 7 and everything works precisely as it should. Smoothest upgrade experience I've had since going from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Pro on the same machine.

Can a Google calendar be added to the stock metro calendar app without also importing all of the emails on that account? The only reason I ask is because I noticed in the updates that "Mail & Calendar" are treated as a single application which is weird.

Go download drivers for Windows 7. Should work.

No, not from in the app from what I can tell. You either have to turn off email sync in settings after you add your Google account (and have given it enough time to sync and sort all of your emails) or subscribe to an ICS link in the calendar via Outlook.com.

You can get an ICS link for all the calendars you want to export from Google Calendar in the Calendar Details page of each calendar on google.com/calendar.

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
Is there any way to remove the password when I start the system?

hi guys, maybe some of you can help me.

i bought an asus netbook a few years ago. it came with windows 7 starter original (i still have the key).

i realised the OS was very limited, and i upgraded to windows 7 ultimate ilegally. i don't even remeber how i did it, but it worked.... very stupid of me.
during the last few years, i never received any message from windows that told me i have an pirated version. windows update work perfectly. it's like i have an official version.

i downloaded the media creation tool, to see if i could install win10 using my original key.. but it didn't work. it just says the key doesen't work.

is there any way to downgrade from windows 7 ultimate to windows 7 starter and then updgrade to windos 10? (without losing all my data or formatting). or any other way to get win10 using my original key?.

thanks in advance!

I'm not sure there is an official method to downgrading a windows key, especially to an OEM. You'll have to reinstall using your starter Key. You'll be getting 10 home in that case.

LOL. Did you check your network usage?

You might want to run the initial setup again:

C:\Users\BackFlip\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive\Update\OneDriveSetup.exe

The notification pop up is broken. You have to left click on the application icon to see the real progress.

I'll try that, thanks.

Still something has to be wrong, normally files like that would upload in seconds but it's just stuck.

I'm liking Windows 10 on the whole, although I don't feel it's a massive leap from 8.1.

I really hope they tweak the start menu though:

So, I upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 10 and activated it. Everything worked out fine. When I want to do a clean install sometime later, can I activate it without problems, or do I need something?

i've seen start menus with bigger tiles. are they really not resizable? did those tiles just come at the large size by default?

I've seen several people having issues with Nvidia drivers, so between that, the privacy stuff, and the fact you apparently can't directly do a fresh install with the upgrade, I'm holding off for a bit.

Most of the improvements over 7 seem pretty nice though, looking forward to upgrading. Have a new RAID setup with a couple 500GB SSDs ready for it.

You can do either a reset or a refresh, forgot which. If you do that you don't need to reactivate or anything.

Any impressions on windows 10 on a 8 inch tablet? Is it worth upgrading from 8.1?

Overall I prefer it over using Win8.1. Not only I managed to free up 4.5 GB from my puny 16GB eMMC, it has a lot of tablet improvements, like the, uh, tablet mode. The only quirk that I still haven't bothered to fix is that if I lock the screen it always asks me for the PIN to unlock it, where in Win8.1 it waited 15 minutes before I needed to input the PIN again.

Be aware that most likely after you finish the installation your tablet most likely will be slow. Like, ridiculously slow. Somehow, the installation is missing the video drivers and it uses the CPU in the meantime.

What I did is I downloaded the media creator tool from Microsoft's website. Launch the exe and just follow the step of "upgrade my current PC". Chose to keep nothing. Seems to have done a very clean install for me.

If you have upgraded Windows will have logged your motherboards MAC address and that is what ultimately is tied to the Windows licence. So you can reinstall on a different drive or whatever else and Windows will still be activated by the upgrade licence.

Yep, the start menu is super limited right now from a tweaking standpoint.

That's kind of the case across all aspects of the OS. I'm sure these things will change, though.

The fact that I can't satisfactorily change the title bar color is ridiculous, for instance. Why on earth use white as the title bar color when that's historically been the unfocused window color?

You can resize the tiles, that's not what I'm after. I want to resize the start menu so it's closer to the tiles, here, I made a GIF. It won't go any smaller for some reason, which leaves loads of ugly dead space.

When you do that, can you select a different drive? Otherwise I need to move everything to my new drives then overwrite it all.

Ok. thanks.

Just a follow up, what if i build a completely new rig. ?

At some point in preview builds, you could pin to the list, so I assume it's functionality that they will consider bringing back (if it's not already on the roadmap).

You can resize the start menu, but it's only to a few preset positions, which happens to be the width of the groups of live tiles you make. It'd be nice to have more control.

If you replace the motherboard they'll usually let you renew the key, I had to phone up a number on Windows 7 and it reactivated, took like 5 minutes.

You'd think, but nope, I'm left with a shit load of dead space instead. I doubt Microsoft will leave it like this, and I can live with it for now.
