Oh also, it crashed after I died on 3-5. Not like I lost and progress, so. But I still did a report and included the video.

Bought it. Played the first few levels and really enjoyed it so far. I can stop between missions and not lose my stuff, right?

Stop only on the "home base" menu to start a new mission and you're good. Unlocked seasons are unlocked forever.

Finished season 4 and beat the game but no trophy for beating the final boss.... Mechanics are absolutely phenomenal and the combat/enemy design makes decent use of them but sadly the fun is short lived due to a lack of content and a wealth of technical issues.

Definitely want more of that core gameplay but with added depth, substance and polish.

Fantastic mechanics though, so much fun to just drift around and juke everything, the controls are absolutely spot on!

You can turn off your game FROM THE DECK of the Axelios, your mothership. You will resume where you left off. If you quit the game mid-mission you lose everything, so be careful!

Absolutely loving this so far. Pretty much exactly as I expected and imagined, down to the controls and general feel. Already died once getting over zealous and taking on too many of those giant Green bug things. Any tips for those? They seem just as quick as my hyper boost lol.

Macross is the first of the three series and the least mangled to form Robotech, it's also the highest regarded of the three series. If you can get the ADV release of Macross it's probably your best bet. Probably won't be easy to find though. If you're stuck with Robotech the first 30 or so episodes are Macross anyway, but from what I understand the translation starts getting strange later in the series.

If you just want to scratch the Macross itch with a minimum of fuss, find Macross Plus. Should be much cheaper and easier to find, it's much much shorter, and it's probably better in many ways. The original still is probably worth it if you can find it. Avoid Macross 2 unless you've seen everything else and are still desperate for more.

Thanks, macross plus seemed a lot easier to find so i just nabbed a dvd.

Yeah, I've been waiting until I get there before quitting back to the main menu. Everything seems fine so far.

I noticed no one has 100% the game and they've beat season 4. Ayatollah of Rock-N-Rolla isn't obtainable with the current content or something?

I think I'm the only one who has beaten season 4 at this point judging from the trophy data on PSN and I didn't get the Ayatollah of Rock-N-Rolla trophy for beating the last boss.

Might be bugged or might need some extra requirement to unlock, probably bugged though.

you can also try macross: do you remember love. it's a nice condensed retelling of the macross saga and i prefer it to plus mainly because i prefer the original cast/storyline.

Couple of the menu screens are really annoying and unclear. Like with the guy who upgrades your shit, pressing R1 or L1 seemingly automatically launches you in to a mission even when you're not ready, likewise when you're just equipping your weapon upgrade.

So I got a chance to check it out.
I actually do think it is very much a modern take on the old Defender games. Instead of only being able to go left and right with the thrust, you can go all directions.

I am digging it a whole lot so far but I wish I knew it was a one and done deal for the progression of the seasons. I do not get a lot of time to play these days. Usually when I do hop on to play something it is for 15 minutes here, 45 minutes there, so the whole you cannot do in 5 episodes to pass a season really is a big, big deterrent for myself.

Yes, I can suspend my PS4, which is exactly what I am doing right now, but especially a game like this one, getting into a groove is really essential to progression. Picking it up here and there, especially when that here and there can be days apart, is not really ideal.

I will still play the game, I own it now, but if I had done a little more research prior to picking it up and discovered this was the progression system, I think I probably would have passed.

It is a damn good game. Just not a game that fits my limited gaming schedule all that well. It requires some dedication to get good, at least that is the conclusion I have come to initially. Perhaps it will change.

The boss is a pain, work on disabling the guns ASAP, toss the plugs into the boss (the shock brings down his shield), and keep your goddamn distance. Do not use robot mode more than you need to remove the plugs. The asshole can hit you twice in a row if he gets close so just play it extremely safe and stay at the opposite side of the room at all times. Dash away and to the side if he's charging you, he dashes straight.

Use every last missile on him immediately, you lose them at the end of the season anyway. I think you only have to wait for two lock ons each volley.

Also be insanely careful not to lose health before that boss. If it gets a single hit it's very likely it's going to hit twice and thus deal hull damage.
Thanks for the tips, I finally ended up taking him down. Everything up until the Season 2 boss I was annihilating almost without taking any damage, but I kept getting to the boss and dying in like ten seconds.

The final time I spent everything on missile upgrades (which I never use in normal play), got into the arena and just unloaded everything I had on him while boosting all over the place. I didn't think it was working so I switched over to mech for some last ditch attempts at a few melee strikes...and then he exploded. The missiles did it.

Shame this happened at 3-3 on my next run

PRETTY SURE that's not supposed to happen, right?

So, one of the wall things came out and glitched me into a wall :( It was my first run ever and I had so much shit. Happened on Episode 4 (!!!) with 5 health, 4 shields, spreadshot bouncing bullets and tons of other upgrade shit. I restarted that and then finished Season 1 again and in the mech tutorial the grab wouldn't work...😅

Loving this game!!!!!
It's really fun, and my luftrauser skills are paying off.

However the commentary from a-tak could be toned down a bit. My girlfriend won't stop making fun of it.

Ace game though. Ace.

No, this is a bug where the game really starts freezing up after killing enemies. The framerate hitches will be greatly reduced with our next patch, we have a bunch of big optimizations that make a big difference, especially in heavy combat. They aren't that bad now, but we definitely intend to keep hammering on things like that.

Cool...just bought the game. Glad to hear it will be optimized further.

Shit lol. I had a glitch where the last mission objective enemy was outside deepspace boundaries. I went close by to lure him out, game over...

There is also an issue with pickups, I'll try to explain.

I have full missiles, I bust open something that provides a missile pickup, I can't pick it up as I have full missiles, but if I use some and return to it, I still can't pick it up.

I'm pretty terrible at this game lol. Haven't even passed season 1 lol (admittedly two of the deaths were not exactly my fault), but I'm actually somewhat glad, at least for now. Don't think I've played a really difficult game in a long time, and yes that includes Bloodborne. I think it's mostly because I haven't played a game of this genre and style in a while, but it's fun just messing around and experimenting with different approaches.

Generally I won't take any damage for several missions, then I'll lose most of my health in one go, and struggle with low health and shields for the remaining last mission. You can go from all to nothing pretty quick, and I find it difficult to get your original health and shields back.

Any tips for a n00b?

So when you use crash coins for the level retry in 2-4, they remove your ship's ability to transform?
yeah, and they take away all your upgrades until you find them again somewhere in the level. it's almost not worth it to continue because it can be pretty difficult with just your standard laser. if you restart from the beginning at least you can exchange the coins for scrap and start with some upgrades+mech. i guess it depends if you want to tolerate the previous 3 levels or not.

-Don't buy missiles, get them from killed enemies. Save your salvage for ship repair.
-Explore. A lot of upgrades are free, you just need to find them.
-Use boost. It can be used in conjunction with your backward thrusters and strafe.
-Strafe is key to decimating foes. Boost it to evade enemy fire and lay down the pain.
-Don't forget juke. Its great for evading when real close to opponents.
-If you are overwhelmed... juke, boost, and run.
-Be patient, move slowly, don't rush into fight. (With the right joystick you can tap in a direction and expand your view a bit beyond the normal boundary... Which is useful for scouting ahead)
-Use the map, it can help you find hidden areas.

Stealth is your friend early on and environment traps/kills will help you a lot.

Juke also avoids incoming fire.

Slow and steady is a good strategy, pick your fights, creep up, missiles, boost, turn, fire, and juke.

this just happened to me too. i got the max missle upgrade during a mission and when i went to go pick up some stray missles the enemy left behind, i couldn't.

I hope this game is out in Asia as well. Coz I'm waiting. The lack of info in Asia store is rather concerning t me.

And that GIF looks ace.

Live in Japan, I'm depressed that I can't find any release info for Japanese PSN and have been following this game since the original E3 announcement.

Counterintuitive since they have a studio in Kyoto.

I may break down and create a US account >_<

What time is it?
Played a little bit last night and died on 1-4. Played through Season 2 tonight without dying though the ending of Season 2 was a little hairy. Enjoying the game so far but stripping your upgrades between seasons seems like an odd choice. Also had a lot of performance issues tonight, lot's of stuttering. Hopefully rebooting the console will clear that up.

Bought this morning before I left for work, was surprised it popped up in the store, SA store usually only updates sometime in the afternoon on a Wednesday so was a nice surprise, will be able to play once I get home.

Just thinking out loud here........

Things tend to get real busy on screen, real quick, and it can be very hard to keep track of your ship in the mire of enemy projectiles and explosions, would some sort of glowing ring or other means of highlighting your ship during combat be a worthwhile addition?

Man... my muscle memory goes nuts whenever I switch to the mecha considering most of the mecha games I play have X as boost, hah.

I think I'm getting the hang of the controls easier than I expected. It was rough at first.

Getting a little stuttering every now and then though which is a real shame.

Can you play through the game mostly as a ship? I love cave flyers like thrust, gravity force etc,MSI I was looking forward to this as a rogue-like cave flyer. The Mech thing kind of threw me tbh,and the various move sets it seems to have look complex.

I'm sure I'll try them out, but I don't want progression to rely on that, so knowing it can be played through more like a cave flyer would be good to know.

There are some missions that require at least some use of the mech for moving objects around via grapple, but I guess you could probably limit it's use to those?
