Yes, you need to move all your data from your old Wii to your Wii U. Before doing it, download the Wii U data trasnfer channel from the old Wii Shop to your Wii.

You can use the Gamepad or a Classic Controller.

There is no first week discount, but there is a discount for Xenoblade X if you buy this in the next two weeks.

You can play it with the Gamepad or Wii U Pro controller.

Also, for those vacillating between Wii and N3DS versions, the N3DS didn't include the original Japanese voice audio, which is a real loss as Xenoblade got a fairly low quality British dub.

It's better than paying £40-£50 for used versions (eBay prices in last month). I hope Nintendo brings over Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Radient Dawn because these two go for over £70 and £40-£50 respectively.

Huh. Well, then I guess the Wii that lives inside my Wii U is defaulting to 50Hz, and I have no idea why. I can't find anything in the Wii or Wii U settings menus that I can change, and I'm pretty sure Skyward Sword itself doesn't even have a settings menu.

While it did support CC, I always felt the game was better with Wiimote and Nunchuck. You could move and select skills at the same time so easily that way.

Wow, I hadn't realised this until now! Sounds worth the trade-off of camera controls too, since Xenoblade has an auto camera.

Cus if half of this is going towards the new game then I have to decide if it's worth paying £9 or £8 for off TV play with gamepad controls. Think it might be for one of my all time favourite games.

Wii games downloaded from the Wii U eShop use the same save files as their disc-based counterparts. If you transferred your original save from Wii to your Wii U (or played it on Wii U at all) the digital copy will pick up your save just fine.

Nothing against the GamePad, it's just that if the game's only using the TV it'd be nice to just use the Pro Controller. Assuming you have to choose "TV + GamePad" when starting the game to use the GamePad as a controller.

Not true anymore, with digital versions. Anything that supported the Classic Controller on Wii will work with the GamePad as a controller. Right now that's Sin and Punishment 2, Pandora's Tower and now Xenoblade Chronicles.
