Sony FY2015 Q1 (PS4: 3.0m shipped) PS4 total = 25.3m shipped worldwide

Like this means anything lol. If E3 2015 wasnt a company going all out then its nigh impossible for a company to go all out.

There’s a big difference between going “all-out” and “blowing their load.”

There’s no doubt Sony brought their megatons to E3. But in terms of pure quantity, they never overextended themselves, compared to past E3s or other conferences.

To put it in context, even from just their first-party line-up, Sony could’ve (realistically) brought the following games to E3 as well :
Everybody’s Golf (teased last year)
Gravity Daze 2 (teased 2 years ago, playable according to Shu)
David Cage’s new game (2 years since Beyond, playable according to Shu)
Bend’s game (playable according to Shu)

But they didn’t. They showed 4 first-party games (TLG, Horizon, dreams & RIGS), and while 3 of them are undeniably huge games, it’s not the extent that Sony could’ve shown.

Even from a 3rd-party perspective, this is true as well.

There was Shenmue 3. There was FFVII. Both are megatons for different reasons, but it’s only 2 games.

If we look at what’s happened post-E3, we’ve had few more megatons drop for the PS4 in the form of DQX and DQXI. Sony clearly knew about them, but they didn’t try to force Yuji Horii make it part of their E3 show at all. (Not that they necessarily can, imo. DQ commands the presence of manning their own presser )

If Sony went all-out, they wouldn’t be holding another 2 confirmed pressers this year at TGS/PGW. (and very likely 3 with PSX)

It's hard for American Journalists to reconcile the real sales difference between the consoles to their everyday life, because in the US the split is more 55/45, while Europe doesn't care about non-Playstation platforms, & the rest of the world doesn't know what an Xbox is.

They notice that half the people they know in America own an Xbox, so the sales numbers are too jarring for them so they block that info from registering.

Great explanation.

Amazon only represents about 10% of the total retail sales in the US according to Aqua, & it generally leans towards "core" games, so I wouldn't look too much into that.

10 percent is a lot. How many percentage of persons in the total U.S.A do you estimate that each poll for voting represents?

Sony CFO looks to turn company away from cuts to growth
Kenichiro Yoshida, chief financial officer who has a key role in the turnround strategy launched by chief executive Kazuo Hirai says it is time for the electronics and entertainment group to shed this negative legacy and start investing in the future again.

“What this company needs is a positive mindset that is willing to grasp future opportunities. That’s the challenge for our management team,” he tells the Financial Times.

I think these are some interesting proposition. To me it sounds like they feel they company is now ready for next phase and restructuring is complete or almost complete.

I think its a damn near certainty they will need to address the mobile division before restructuring wraps up. How they address it remains to be seen but it needs to be addressed in some capacity.

They really need to drop their mobile venture.

As good as their mobiles are, pretty much almost everyone other than Apple and Samsung (to a much lesser extent) are actually losing money.

Nah, it's just the market has settled now since the boom of smartphones. It's going to take someone flipping it on it's head again. It could be any manufacturer that does it.

Nokia dominated
Sony dominated
Apple Dominated
??? dominates

Hmmm. I don't really see anyone taking that mantle away from Apple anytime soon, unless another company comes up with the next big thing. People seem to be pretty comfortable with their Apple devices.
