I came across this on Nintendo Everything and I don't think it's been posted anywhere but is definitely worth its own thread.

Nintendo conference @ Unite Europe 2015

Few important bullet points:

  • Based on Unity 5
  • Free Unity License for 3DS developers
  • Unity can be used on OG 3DS as well
  • Support for fixed function pixel shaders
  • Beta this summer
  • First titles scheduled for end of this year

In addition Nintendo announced that Unity Games is porting several games to the N3DS, the first of which is Wind-Up Knight 2(which just released on Wii U eShop today!).

Footage of N3DS version.

so no real development for the n3ds?

i mean exclusive games...

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Nintendo would be wise to get NX Unity support well ahead of launch. This is a good start, though.

Considering how they've been supporting Unity on Wii U for years and that they went the extra mile on New 3DS, I'd take Unity support on NX as granted 99.9%.

Well I don't think it's intended for anyone to use Unity on the OG 3DS, it's just not impossible.

Wind-Up Knight 2 is also only announced for N3DS.

Also seems like a good times to give a shout out to Lifespeed, a futuristic/aerial racer planned for N3DS eShop.

Wow the guy playing the demo in the video seems like quite an asshole. Tells the demo lady to hold his camera and film him play it then immediately says, "tell me how to play." at the "Press A to Start" screen.

Then complains that the text on the loading screen is barely readable within seconds of her saying it's a preview alpha build of the game and the engine.

yeah , He is a total A-hole

With Unity support on N3DS, I wonder if they'll ever bring Freedom Planet over. I'd much rather play it on N3DS than the WiiU version which keeps getting delayed for some reason.

Freedom Planet isn't a Unity game; it runs on MMF2 which is already compatible with 3DS via Chowdren.

The first delay was because the dev wasn't going to be around to do tech support at launch, and the second delay was to fix a bug that only appeared on retail units running review code. They were only one-week delays, it's not a big deal.

I can't watch the video right now and the replies in this thread are a bit confusing, so sorry for the stupid question but: is this about Unity-the game engine- support for 3DS or about Unity-the game development program-?

thanks for the clarification. I dunno how it got in my head it was otherwise.

While it's not necessarily impossible, I wouldn't expect a conference talking about an engine with a heavy emphasis on portability to have much in the way of platform-exclusive titles. Heck, even if they announced one, I wouldn't expect it to stay one.

Any gleanable insight into exactly how the CPU was improved? I'm sort of amazed that the real n3DS specs haven't leaked at this point (and no, it's not simply more cores).

Aye, this is what I was wondering. I doubt doubling the number of ARM11 cores (And co-processors, which are probably for the face tracking anyway) would result in a browser that's a million times better and standards compliant, miles better HTML5 performance in the Miiverse app and the ability to run Unity ports.

No one translated the Japanese PDF yet, nothing? :(

Also, other question: one thing that surprised me about Unity for New 3DS is how Unity will get updated to make it very easy to setup the bottom screen functionality of any game. Now, does Unity feature the same easy-to-use tools for Wii U's GamePad's screen?
