Destiny The Taken King starring Bungie with special guest appearance by Game Informer

That was pretty much nothing, unfortunately.

Just recaps on: There is a story, Light system went all mulligan, and the grind nothing it once was.

Yup. Not one bit of new info.

Next update is Aug 17.

I expect more of these nothing (no new info) articles. They can't possibly do a new article every few days and say something we don't know yet in each one.

I thought their coverage has been good, but it's clear at this point that it's being stretched. Come next Wednesday we'll start getting new info from Bungie; it feels like they want to keep it going until then but don't quite have enough content to do so.

Well, the PvP article was very odd. They could have split that up into 3 or 4 articles and just heavily focused on 2 maps each instead of 1 paragraph and a 20 second clip. They can still do that, honestly.

I'm expecting them to reveal the new weapon class/classes as well eventually.

I'm sure they have a few exotic armor pieces they can talk about.

They said they'll have articles all the way through to the end of August, so I'm sure they've got more solid material somewhere around there.

Never thought I'd say this after how disgusted I was with what Destiny turned out to be, but TTK sounds like it's pretty close to the game I was originally so excited about. It's nice that they're being so up front about the changes coming. It's a huge acknowledgement of the problems and hopefully a commitment to do better. Although they've bragged many times about how many Destiny players there were, they must have really noticed that the player base shrunk as people hit the utterly atrocious grind. Big props to Bungie for this.

The community around this game has always looked so friendly and positive, despite the issues around being social in the Tower. ^^ Looking forward to diving back in this fall. They have a lot of competition with Black Ops III (zambies!!) and Battlefront, though!

The GI coverage has been really good. But I'm starting to feel like a lot of the coverage going forward will be stretched thin "it's nothing new" summary info or get on the bandwagon type articles.

I'm gonna miss the grind.

There, I said it.

I hope the raid at least still has some randomized loot.

Don't worry it will. Already been pretty much confirmed that RNG is not going anywhere.

Speaking of which, I wish someone would ask Bungie (1) about the abysmally low drop rates of Skolas and (2) about the size of the Ghorn nerf.

Couple questions about some minor updates in Taken King

Will we finally be able to use a map in Patrol? I've always needed to have some kind of guide to get my bearings, especially on the Moon and Mars, and was hoping we could at least pull up the landing map with a "You are here" locator.

Do we know if there will be any technical improvements like reduced loading times, at least on PS4/XBO?

Is this even coming out in xbox360 and ps3?

I couldn't imagine playing it on those systems, but if you got enough friends playing it on those systems, why would you ever buy a new console (based off of when you play Destiny a lot, it's really the only game you ever play)

Yes unfortunately. Don't mean it in a bad way, but those systems continue to hold back the game design and what we could truly get. I was ok with year 1 being a part of the saga, but year 2 should have been the forced upgrade. Maybe they will do that for year 3, but if we must drag along last Gen the entire destiny storyline then count me out.

I'm so excited to see what a current gen only Destiny could be.

We haven't heard a single thing about the map, so I doubt it.

That said, there are fan projects from time to time that do wonders.

Loading times likely aren't going away any time soon because those aren't just loading times. Those are also matchmaking finders.

If you ever want to fly to Mars, when you get that loading screen of the space jump, the game is actually doings it's matchmaking to find other players on Mars doing similar things.

This is mostly what has kept me from replacing my PS4 HDD with a solid state because it really doesn't have an impact on the loading speeds at all.

Kinda funny how forgotten the Combined Arms/ Vehicle playlist shit is, hah.

Over time, They just became terrible to play in, man. And if you gonna have vehicles, I'mma need a warthog and shit like that.

Since combined arms is the only way to play with vehicles they really need to bump the interceptor back to beta levels of destruction.

I thought it was kinda funny they actually took a minute to say "Yeah, we're not fucking around with those dumb vehicle maps anymore." It's pretty rare that developers bother discussing old game modes that they are abandoning.

I suspect that people will probably start to turtle pretty hard once they are up a couple scores, even with the timer on the "flag".

As long as there's a time limit on the match and turtling doesn't allow you extend the game's length indefinitely then that is fine though.

Does anyone has info about the taken king free upgrade? Buying it on ps3 and getting the ps4 for free? Hate to buy ps3 and ps4 versions. A lot of friends still play it on ps3.

True, but Destiny isn't structed like Halo in the sense that pepole would troll in Halo in an effort to get you to leave the game and win by forfeit.

Destiny replaces empty slots, so those specific trolls wont have that satisfaction.

They didn't announce it last year until a few days before Destiny launched. It's not guaranteed that they will do it again though.

I used to troll in the opposite direction on Halo 2. Everyone else on my team quit? So what? I'm going to go hide in a corner and make you sit through several more 5-minute rounds of CTF/Assault before you get a win.

By the end of it I'd have people cursing and screaming at me to quit.

Karma was a bitch though, as I'd often end up playing two hour CTF matches in World of Warcraft precisely because teams turtled up and there was (originally) no timer on the match. It wasn't over until you got a winning score.

Looks like Bungie has a new Senior Writer.

Christine Thompson

[Former] lead writer for Star Trek Online. She has also written a number of short stories set in the Star Trek Online continuity, published in Star Trek Magazine.

No idea what else she is from.

Info comes from her Twitter account: https://twitter.com/HelloKestrel

Anyone here familiar with Star Trek Online that they might be able to comment on her work?

There is so much content in STO nowadays that it would be impossible to point out her contribution. And it is impossible to claim that just one person is responsible for STO.

That being said, some of the STO main story stuff is suitably trekkie in style. Heavy on science, low on bullshit.
