Nicki Minaj wax figure depicts her on all fours. Azealia Banks has beef with this.

She's not "dying by the sword".

There's weird competing narratives here that Nicki either 1) has been victimized by racists and sexists or 2) has to own what she brought on herself, implying it's a bad thing.

Neither seems remotely close to the truth.
Agreed. I take back what i said about tact.

she just represented her in the way she represents herself, but oooooh the sjw's will come out and say it is wroooooong

Agreed. Expected responses, outrage culture, etc.

Nicki's whole schtick is a hyper-sexualized rap/pop icon. This wax figure is from her most popular video highlighting how she markets herself.

I'm fairly certain Nicki had to approve the figure before it went on display. What? People think celebrities don't want to get paid for a company using their likeness? LOL. I bet Nicki loved the wax figure.

Also, there's a new Tussauds in Orlando that I've been to, and yeah, you can pose/touch the figures...at least more than I thought. Worth the money to see all figures.

And this:

...is hilarious. You know homeboy sent that pic to all his friends, posted it on FB/IG....everything.

I bet he couldn't stop smiling for a couple days afterwards.

The way I see it is is that there's many moments through her career that could have been portrayed, sure Anaconda Nicki is well known but its pretty sus that other risque pop stars don't have wax figures in such a frame. They could have chose any other frame in that video or just simply had her in the outfit from the video and the point would have been made.

Anaconda the video portrays Nicki as a sexual being, but the thing is that its a video where it's all under her control.

Hmm... Not bad. But Nicki herself doesn't seem to be helping your argument. Apparently was involved with the pose and decided "yes, on all 4's, that's how I want to be represented."

Well I wonder what Niki Minaj thinks. Not that-that is the end all, be all though.

Didn't Nicki have to approve this herself though?
Easy enough to infer at face value, but...

Niki said:
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WTF?!?!?!?!??!??" Nicki wrote. "Had no idea they were really doing this. I would've went to Vegas for this. #HappyBirthdayAnaconda Madam Tussauds Wax Figure- whoever did this <3."
Should add a quote from the etonline article to the OP, just to tear down the ridiculous narrative Banks is trying to imply.

Pretending to be standing next to a wax figure is one way of taking pic. The other is to be pretending to be boning the wax figure. Those are really the only two types of pictures you're expecting to take at the wax museum.

Maybe I'm out of touch with this form of entertainment.

Fine if she likes it, but curious into Tussauds choice in that particular moment in the video.
Then again, sex sells, that is the end all at the end of the day.

Yeah, her stuff is corny generic pop stuff, but anaconda is an iconic song and she killed it. If she put out a full on hip hop album, u really think there is a hip
Hop artist that could lyrically stand up to her?

More than I can count. Go away Pop-GAF, go away.

Kylie Minogue had a statue of her on her knees and elbows.

If you don't want to be associated with raunchy sex don't create a sexualised, raunchy pop video.

^For example

THIS. Every song is hyper sexualized to the max and you find that offensive lol

Nice wax figure. People claiming it's racist or whatever needs to calm down.

Also the video and song the figure its based on is absolute shit.

I don't know if you're serious but there's a looooooooooooooooooooong list of artists that can destroy her on the mic. In terms of how she markets herself and what she does she is one of the best out.
Please don't bring up a list of old rappers like mos def or some underground rapper like joell ortiz.

This. Not to mention that those statues usually have to get approved

they should make a wax figure of aezelia banks tweeting in a transparent attempt to drum up controversy and publicity since that's all she's known for, o right they only do these for famous people.

Yup looks like her. The people calling it racist or sexist are trying too hard to look for issues. This is how she portrays herself. Sorry end of story. She likes it and approves. Take issue with her, not the figure representing her on how she represents herself.

What I am really interested in is how people are praising Anaconda. Half the song was Baby got back, the rest was pretty much nonsense. I will admit the music video was nothing but eye candy and it was mildly enjoyable but the song itself is not inventive or original in any way short of pushing the limits of booty.

I too an suprised that people are allowed to be in contact with the figures.

I listen to hip-hop and browse hip-hop related forums every day and I swear to you that I've never seen this woman's name outside of threads detailing her current Twitter beefs.

As for the statue: I have mad respect for Nikki as an artist and person, but this is simply a representation of an image she proudly aligns herself with in public. She's probably done this pose herself in half of her music videos, if not more than that. If she doesn't have an issue with this image, I don't know why anyone else should.

Sexist? I understand why people would have an issue with the misogynist tones this pose can carry, but that's only one half of the coin--Nikki often does this sort of thing and is smart enough to not just be doing it for the male audience's pleasure. If this pose were used for a statue of another popular female figure who didn't often present this image of herself, I'd be right there with you.

Racist? Whatever, man.

I feel like there's slowly becoming a sub-class of D-list celebrities that can now only drum up headlines by picking Twitter fights over social justice issues.

What's so crazy about this? I mean, I don't think Nicki is the best rapper out, but she's got a better flow on the mic than most of these rappers getting hyped up these days.

I mean, there's a reason she was getting 50k a feature before she even had her own single out. Homegirl is talented.

This is the laziest criticism i have ever seen for anything. Ever.

I think they're too young to remember it. They say you're not supposed to touch and a lot of the figures have a rope around them, but *shrug*.

Goal post moving? LOL so you want some guy with a basement studio to go head to head with nicki who can get drake's crew to produce for her?
What the hell does that have to do with lyrical ability? smdh

Man, all you hipsters hating on nicki because she puts out shitty pop music are really gonna discredit her rapping abilities?

She is not lyrically the best even if you limit it to just mainstream rappers or female rappers. Stop trolling.

Weren't you talking about lyrical quality? Does production really matter there?
Uhhhhh... Yes my friend. It matters very much. They dont call drake the blackberry rapper for no reason. You think meek lost because drake is a better rapper?

might be internalized sexism...
the irony of disapproving of a woman's expression of her sexuality on her own terms by claiming she has internalized sexism... that disapproves of women expressing their sexuality on their own term

i mean the phrase "internalized sexism" can sometimes be used as a valid and relevant concept, but this is not such a case

Thanks. I try not to put too much energy into comments about a half ass song. Mission accomplished.

After I heard that song I just added baby got back to a Playlist and forgot all about anaconda until this thread.

But...it's from her music video.

Yeah I don't get the outrage. It's how Nikki presented and branded herself, (which is fine, I have no beef with the video), but I don't get how this is sexist or racist when the artist herself chose to explore sexual imagery in her iconic music video.

The first pic with the group of fans posing with it seems like fun and games, the second one is gross though.
