Chibi Robo Zip Lash - amiibo functionality further detailed

Sorry if old

So, the official Japanese site updated their amiibo compatibility chart (http://www.nintendo.co.jp/amiibo/software/amiibo_CompatibilityChart.pdf) and in it contains some interesting details.

We all know how the Chibi Robo specific amiibo works (levelling up Chibi Robo and unlocking the Toy Capsule Machine), but now we know what the non Chibi Robo amiibo do.

First, scanning any amiibo will get you coins to spend on items in the game, which we knew beforehand however, we do now know that there is additional functionality for all amiibo except Pikachu, Lucario, Charizard, Greninja, Jigglypuff, Sonic, Pac-man or Mega Man.

If you scan them, you can then access the Toy Capsule Machine which may give you a special figurine of Chibi Robo doing the pose of the amiibo in question. (Thanks to StreetsAhead for clarifying)

Pretty cute functionality.

Well that's cute and harmless. This is the sort of thing I was hoping Amiibo would do from the start instead of being basically DLC.

This is one of the weirder Pokémon lockouts, since they're not even putting them in the game beyond the pose. Is TPC that strict that they can't even allow for their poses?

I'm just hypothesising based on how I know TPC are with licensing, but they never want any misrepresentation of Pokémon and that could be why this and Yoshi don't have it. The Yoshi costumes likely wouldn't have been overly recognisable as Pokémon and that's not something they want, but Super Mario Maker has it obviously them.

Can't explain Mario Kart 8 though.

Very few games have had functionality akin to DLC, to be fair.

Splatoon, Hyrule Warriors (at least with Link), Codename STEAM, both Animal Crossing spinoffs, Mario Party 10, Captain Toad, arguably Kirby (more like a cheat code microtransaction), that's got to be at least half of games with them

The Amiibo situation has gotten much better in the US recently.

With that said, is the Chibi Robo game + Amiibo bundle actually available for pre-order yet?

Not that Iv'e seen, I'm not sure what NOA's deal is with the amiibo bundles. I can't tell if the yoshi one isn't up yet or sold out months ago

Wow, one of the first games that DOESN'T support the 3rd party trio. Kind of surprised, considering we got freakin' costumes in MK8 & Yoshi's Woolly World.

For the characters with multiple amiibo, does each individual figure have a variant, or do they just use the pose from one of them?

Unsure. We do know that they do have separate IDs so it's probable that they'll have a variant.

I'm hopeful because of the retro 3-pack being so easy to get that things are changing, but a bundle's likely to be much more limited than that so I'm still scared.

Wasn't Link's thing for Hyrule Warriors just the Spinner? Couldn't you unlock that after it was patched in even without the Amiibo, or was I misinformed?

Don't forget that Super Mario Maker supports the trio as well!

Back on Topic, I NEED this game.

Will all toy capsule unlocks (and more importantly, the toy capsule machine itself) be available without Amiibo?

I think STT is right that the Chibi Robo bundle isn't up for pre-order yet. IIRC nor is the SMM Amiibo bundle. Pretty sure the Yoshi one isn't, either.

The Pokémon Company Strikes Again!

Seriously, are they allergic to free advertising? How would this harm their brand? And while the lack of third party Amiibo support is unfortunate, at least that's understandable.

It's gonna be a quartet soon once Ryu's Amiibo comes out.

I thought things might be changing for the Pokemon amiibo with them being in Mario Maker now. Guess not.
Even in Super Mario Maker, the Pokémon got shortchanged (no unique sounds). Joe brought up the possibility that TPC doesn't want Pokémon to be misrepresented, then why lock Nintendo out from giving the Pokémon unique sounds when literally everyone else has at least one unique sound in Super Mario Maker?

On-topic, I may pre-order this game if my budget allows for it.

Maybe TPC don't want it to look like the Pokemon were "skinned" for the costumes.

I got nothing.

Love this! Can't wait to see his poses for Luigi or the green Inkling Squid lol

So every Pokemon has a Chibi Robo for a skeleton? I'd be ok with that.
