Woah there little hard there buddy? From my experience with a genuine french-person they apparently completely and utterly and absolutely hate Mad Max:Fury Road.
Take it from me that i won't trust a french person on matters that are not porn related.

Heh. That's intriguing.

I mean personally I felt Fury Road had the perfect amount of story to understand what was going on and why, didn't get bogged down in anything, and was crazy enough as a film to make it interesting.

I guess in that sense the story might not seem like Metal Gear but...eh. I can like it or dislike it but I feel like as a fan I just don't want to experience the Konami version as opposed to Kojima's version. If I like it then yay, if I don't like it then it's not for me but it's not the end of the world. I'll still have happy memories and be able to play other games in the series and probably come back to TPP for years to come.

I wasn't a fan of Ground Zeroes, and from what I have read, I won't be a fan of this one too. Still curious to see how it is reviewed but I doubt if it can touch the meta score of MGS 4, or even Witcher 3/Bloodborne.

I can have a dog with a knife in it's mouth and armor and a dog plush. Everyone who doesn't like those did not have fun with the franchise like some other people did. I take my chicken hat and all my resources into weapons R&D and then i will blow everything up, can't see how anyone can take my fun away now.

If that is truly how you feel deep down inside your heart Mr. Dr. Ironic, I am sure you will have a pleasant experience with Metal Gear Solid 5. God bless.

I would rather AAA video games not feel like they were all spat out of the Ubisoft machine, though.

Rofl holy shit this dude just said MGSV is gonna be "spat out of the Ubisoft machine."

Amazing.

The ending must deliver, or kojima can burn in hell. Did the french reviewer got the final version ending ?

Man, you are so lucky you weren't around when MGS4 released.

I think he meant Arkham Knight...? Which is, imo, kinda bizzare because even if I didn't love Arkham Knight it never felt Ubi-Batman. It had a bunch of sidequests with stories involving the rogues gallery etc that had a little unique element to them. The worst offender is obviously Riddler trophies but that's been everyone's thing since Asylum.

So I wonder if the bosses are being kept strict secrets, or if the new approach has rendered them non-existent compared to past games?
Definitely sounds quite different for MGS, but you could tell that with Ground Zeroes already.
Excited to play it, but I'm wondering if it's non-traditional approach will be a little too different.

Also, and it's impossible to tell so far, but I'm wondering if this was really Kojima's intended finale, or if it will feel like a tv show that got cancelled early.

I thought the last trailer that Kojima made highlighted some of the boss scenarios we could be looking at: Fire Volgin, Child Mantis, that creepy looking enemy slicing all of the soldiers and then peering in at Quiet and Big Boss, an enemy that can induce avalanches/spikes coming out of the ground chasing after Big Boss, Skull Face, those undead soldiers being controlled by that mechanical hand? Plus there's Quiet herself who might be a boss encounter? That's quite a lot if, they're all boss battles?

Heh. That's intriguing.

They didn't acknowledge the real action sequences as anything special, which i simply can't approve, when it turns out even the stupid guitar thing is a practical effect.
Even when i was the smart-ass who nitpicked Blood-types it turned out I was a dumb ass instead for not paying attention to the movie. The Movie is just made to be re-watched.

And i do really fucking hope we won't lose access to side-ops if you progress to far, that would be a bummer for me.

Huh. I mean I guess I can understand the idea of cultural preferences.

I hope we don't lose access but I won't mind if it's marked...i mean I wouldn't expect a main story mission that say ends with the burning down of part of the african jungle to then allow us to do missions like nothing happened. Even though reviewers got their copies on Monday etc (or started to) there's a caveat in that there's no way they could reasonably see everything it has to offer and not be exhausted etc. I mean I know it comes with the job but eh.

I'm french and me and my friends loved it, he's full of shit.

Or maybe he's just basing it on his experiences?

But eh. Regardless I still feel like I'll enjoy part of TPP, I mean I still don't feel like I've mastered GZs gameplay (but I haven't obessively played it) so I'm sure I'll discover things that are new and probably be fucking things up until I've beaten the game once and replayed things to feel like a pro.

I don't mind there being a minute or two between major locations, i mean i feel it's to be expected, but as long as the semi open world has more in common with saw, Witcher 3 between towns than Inquisition between...things, it'll be ok.

Then he shouldn't say shit like "can't trust french on anything except porn"

He also didn't get much of the Post-Apocalyptic stuff, didn't watch the old movies and to my shock didn't seem to know about Fist of the North Star either which i thought impossible from the things he liked. People can be 'cultured' in very weird and different and specific ways i guess.

But the spoilers about that other clone project, is absolutely a gigaton bomb for me and maybe not for certain other people? People are weird.

edit:I don't actually want to generalize french here, maybe the porn line wasn't humorous enough to be taken as a jest.

How is it scummy? He's trying to avoid spoilers, and it's not like he's making the game look better than it is by removing content.

That wouldn't make it better. Reviewers should be reviewing a complete game.

May as well just not give any prerelease copies then.

They're not. Jason at Kotaku got the full retail copy for review yesterday.
That's what I thought. The people playing an incomplete build are just part of the hype cycle, just like the writers who went to Japan for that MGS4 retreat a few months out from that game's release.

There were a lot of weird restrictions in that game's embargo too, like not being able to say anything about cutscene length, so I'm going to take any review that comes out under those conditions with a grain of salt, good or bad.

Yup, exactly. I vividly remember Shane doing the same thing at 1up for MGS4. Like, he came back and could only write about like...acts 1 and 2 or something.

This game will be absolutely fantastic and fun as hell to play. I don't care what JVM says (although they didn't give it a terrible score either).

Is there an actual embargo for reviews ? Other games seem to like to do dates close to release, but i don't follow reviews much a lot. People are getting the full game now i guess. Don't really know about legit reviewers putting up reviews based on a preview builds.

Oh wow, I didn't know the Kojima-trailer released; totally went over my head as I haven't been watching much media for this (but oddly, don't mind spoilers). Good to know, I will check that out ASAP; if what you described is all there, then that sounds like it's at least on par with the series, if not a bit more.

If I remember MGS4 reviews correctly.. they could only mentioned stuff in the first 2 acts. And Konami said you couldnt mentioned in per act installs at all until day of release.

But I think that event in Japan for MGS4 was a bit different. It was almost a crazy play test for Konami. Some people mentioned that small parts of the game changed between then and the final release.

Apparently Sunday is when embargo lifts and reviews will hit.

Sorry if I've spoiled that for you. It's just my theory. It's just that they looked like the boss unit for this game, it's all smoke and mirrors, at the moment. It's still mysterious, but I really don't think people need to worry about boss battles in a Metal Gear game, there's always plenty of them.

The review is raising some worries I had from previews. Snake barely spoke and Mother Base in PW was a total grind-fest, to the extent that everything in the actual gameplay revolved around fultoning.

Even if the ending is a 2 hour long glorious cutscene, it doesn't make up much for the lack of story set during most of the game for those players looking for a traditional MGS experience.

Luckily it has tapes like Peace Walker. And the game itself has been very honest that it's not a normal MGS title so lack of story doesn't bother me personally.

Talk about the story being obtuse is also not a negative imo but a positive. That would be a very interesting change of pace for a series that normally spells everything out for you in plain exposition over and over again.
Metal gear solid 3 had long stretches of gameplay with little to no codec or cut scenes. It still delivered spectacularly.

They call it Peace Walker Open World lol. Not so surprising.

Oh fuck please no. That would be all my worst fears come true. Arghhh....

Tried multiple times to enjoy that game and couldn't, just couldn't. I've feared this since the base stuff and fulton-ing was shown. Ground Zeroes was so stunning without that stuff, damn near perfect... they were so close to perfection.

This. Especially, if this means we have seen the end of "they're building a new Metal Gear." "Metal Gear?" "Yeah, Metal Gear, the bi-pedal nuclear battle tank that you've fought a ton of times before." "Metal... Gear?!?!"

Peace Walker was the worst about this. No, please Mr. Hot Coldman, explain to me the basic concept of deterrence for the millionth time with power point slides.

The less of this the better.

Chances are that you'll likely get something similar, considering we've heard skullface talk about language over and over and over.

I can't fucking wait! Ordered the collector's edition guide by Piggyback the other day as well so I'm pumped to say the least!

I don't care what the reviews say either.

So is this spoilers thread or reviews thread, because it kind of feels like a general discussion thread so far.

It is hard to believe that the game still hasn't leaked in any form (screenshots, story, video) so far.

Eh, not really (with regards to long stretches without cutscenes). It depends on how fast you play it. 3 has its hefty amount of cutscenes too.

It's apparent that V is approaching things differently from the rest of the main series.

I suspect the bolded isn't going to be enemy based - it's likely a hallucination. The spikes are clearly massive versions of BB's shrapnel horn. I think we're gonna see a lot of that kind of visual metaphor, the environment mimicking his physical injuries and deteriorating mental state.

Or not. Maybe I'm looking too deeply into it.

And recruiting Quiet by tranqing her and then Fultoning her?

And people are still going to take this franchise 100% seriously.
Watch any story trailer and the game takes itself quite seriously as well. This will undoubtedly be the most tonally confused metal gear game ever, and for some it will be quite offensive, especially since they don't have the excuse of "satire" like say GTA.

I would say all the MG games deal with mature and series themes but it never forget that it is a video game.

People will no doubt get offended. Gameplay wise it'll have the quirks of past MGS games. But the story is no doubt serious. But I'm sure it'll have lighter moments.

I loved Ground Zeroes theme, it was really, really dark. The tapes were even worse.

But then I see fultons, horseshit, boxes and all that goofy stuff while I also see tortures and slaughtering of kid soldiers. I wished those goofy things were out.

Do you guys think MGSV will rate above 89 in metacritic or it will happen the same thing as Batman AK ? Some critics and cons here and there and it will rate mid 80's.

Nah, I like my MGS gameplay in my game.

That's how satire works.
The game isn't satire. And no, that's not how satire works. That's how some things meant to be satirical are advertised, but certainly not to the extent of this game.

People thinking you can't do evil, fucked up shit and yet still have a silly side...

k6Ku15G.gif
No one said that you can't do this, no one even implied it, but, how well it fits into the narrative and theme without feeling out of place is definitely up to scrutiny. Especially since the material this time around is child soldiers in Africa, torture that isn't stylized with lightning bolt shooting out of hands or being strapped to a machine while mashing O, blood diamonds, etc.
