Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Love the second shot.

Hoping there's a spot or town similar to Costa Del Sol from FFVII somewhere along that beach/highway. Love the music and chill atmosphere there and the series hasn't really had anything like it since.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
While this is not looking like the technically best looking game out there, I for one can't be more excited to discover more of this world. I don't get how people are even comparing this to the world map of Elder Scrolls games.

Foliage doesn't look good from a distance.

Not feeling the more 'open' aspects of this game at all. Still preferable to the corridor funneling of XIII sure, but eh, I'd rather have a balance than one of the two extremes.

Seriously? XIII is the worst FF in that aspect

I'm truly wondering what this game will end up being when it finally ships. A showstopper for me when it was re-revealed, only to disappoint with every new showing. Seems poised to be a real mess from the sounds of it. Hope that's not the case.

can I place my character anywhere in that world?

like for example, get out of the car, drop from the bridge, and swim straight into the middle of that lake?

The Pax Prime ATR kind of surprised everyone closely following the game with how much it showed, so I dunno where you'd be disappointed.

Well they could've released bullshots but at least they're honest.

The graphics should get an upgrade before release anyway.

The least impressive Final Fantasy games in stills for sure.

no.
why do you come into the threads and troll and lie? You don't even know if you can do what the question asks and you straight up say 'no'. As far as we know, the answer to the question is more likely yes than no.

As I said before, this game needs a massive amount of optimisation. The base graphic engine seems super impressive, but they haven't got it running particularly well yet. This looks like a game on low settings and it isn't doing itself any justice yet. The folliage pop in and resolution in general is not good enough. The LoD system is also pretty bad. I mean the drop off in detail is far too abrupt. This is more ambitious in every way than FFXIII was for its time, but I don't remember this kind of discrepancy in the visuals...It was more consistent. The fact that a lot here is so impressive only further highlights the weaknesses.

Well it's the state of the game now. Maybe they add free roaming later on, but my gut feeling is that not all of the visible world is explorable.

Heh, not the first time Square Enix's released arguably unflattering shots.

Looks like a bunch of LOD tweaking is going on. Car looks super detailed in the driving trailer, but much less so in that second screenshot.

Is it just me or does it look like there's some kind of (smoothing?) filter applied on the images?

Yeah, it's 900p (should get to 1080p on PS4 after optimization) and there's a postprocess filter that smudges the image a bit.

I didn't watch much of the PAX coverage. What was a highlight for you? I saw driving around and auto parking? I popped in that other thread with a lot of people saying the battle system was kinda ho hum. After they got slammed for the last showing and talking about how little progress they made in the past half year, talk of entertaining an older system for veterans...or not ( idk) it just feels like this is some scramble to make a game with FF in the title at this point. *shrugs*

The second screenshot looks like shit because of the leve-of-detail and draw distance, not because of the engine. The actual game is gorgeous when it manages to show its beauty on the current generation.

Wow @ the second shot. Xenoblade X has better environment textures than that.

I agree that the foliage in the second shot doesn't look great; but dragging out Xenoblade comparisons at the first sign of bad optimisation or LOD scaling is an entirely undeserved level of hyperbole.

I said Xenoblade X, and that's not hyperbole.

At least it's not the Xenoblade menu

*chortles*

Not an acceptable level of graphic in 2015.
Blame SE for showing game in that state. I still can't understand why they decided to show it in this state. Why not just go Bullshot all the way and increase the LOD and DD to the max with that screenshot.

All of the visible world is explorable. There might be some cliffs that prevent you from climbing absolutely everywhere, but otherwise the game world is fully traversable. There are no invisible walls.

As ar as how open the game is, it'll supposedly be more like FFs of old than a Bethesda RPG. So the game might control your trip by not letting you just travel to the final city right from the start, it's not THAT open, but once all is said and done, the whole world should be explorable, barring some story related reasons (i.e. some town gets completely destroyed by Niflheim or something).

really? that's disappointing, looking what the Wii U could do with XBC (don't want to start any JRPG war here, I SWEAR!)
Oh, well I'm still very pleased with FFXV so far.

He doesn't know what he's talking about. It's open world and you should be able to go pretty much anywhere.

Can't go into deep water I think they said in the ATR. You can do everything else you said though.
