Media Create Sales: Week 35, 2015 (Aug 24 - Aug 30)

I think it all lines up pretty accurately with YSO's average, rather than the higher end optimism of certain of the predictors of YSO.

That said, with MGSV performance for the most part now known, Splatoon will not be outsold by anything or sold near by any even remotely close margin.

Yeah. It's was pretty safe to say that Splatoon will be the best selling home console game this year even before knowing anything about the sales of MGSV.

Pokemon is getting hurt by its other media arms, particular the anime and movies, being completely inert and dull at this point. It could do with and greatly use some refreshment in that arm for the newer generation as well as to potentially rekindle interest in lapsed fans who have completely drifted away from the tired old formulas.

I could say, as well, that the games themselves could use a bit more novelty in mechanics and presentation (specifically gameplay but not so much combat staple changes).

Well I think part of the reason is also huge demographic shift Japan has seen since late 90s. There is simply millions of less audience for these type of games in Japan today compared to peak years of Pokemon. It's pretty much impossible for any kids heavy franchise to reach those Red/Blue peak sales or even Gold/Silver anymore.

Of course, I simply mentioned it as it was the last title left that, at some point, may or may not have been a topic of discussion with regards to "best selling console title of the year".

This is no doubt a part of it, but I do think the media arm is really starting to hurt the series' potential growth with poor quality productions that have become so same-y and inert, that they offer nothing to chase the ever evolving demographics of kids.

*snip all this about handheld/console software*

I think your best, easy example is to show the pictures you had a few threads back comparing UE4 vs. UE4 Mobile. It paints a picture clear enough on the level of fidelity but it also shows where losses are incurred in the mobile sector vs. the more power regular format of the engine. That sort of stuff is what I expect much of Nintendo's internal engines to be built like with a lower-effect handheld version and a "sprussed up" console version that has a few more checkboxes turned on. The handheld will be the common denominator but, at the same time, things have advanced far enough that I do not think that will be too much of a hurdle/bottleneck.

The higher specs will support higher, more CPU dependant affects that simply will not be active in the handheld and so on.

Splatoon will Sell minimum 1 Million by end of year, most likely More.
Metal Gear will be lucky to Sell 800k... So, yeah.

And i also going to Say Splatoon will be the Best selling for home console of The generation. And by a good margin with The other Games.

Isn't that generally the last week people release games before the Japanese holiday period?

hmmm, not properly, Christmas is a normal working day here and in the previous years I remember some games released even on 24th

usually the winter holiday weeks are #52 and #1, even if sometimes games were published on week 52, less on week 1 especially in the latest years (but I remember a DB game released on Jan.1, maybe for Wii :D )

The toyline ties into the anime and new toys came out in July for the second season(and Busters) so I wouldn't say its the lack of a YW3 causing the issues. Also, judging by that article it seems like whoever is in charge of merchandising keeps screwing up in addition to the craze starting to die down.

The SE games are probably the only competition.

Sorry, but i can't see Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy much Over 1.5 Million lifetime, Splatoon and Mario Kart will easy Sell more.

I believe DQ has a legit chance to sell over 1.5m. FF however, I believe it will have a hard time moving 1.5m

For me it all depends if the 3DS DQ sku is released at the same time (PS4 won't pass 1.5M) and if there's a NX home console version around the same time as well (PS4 & NX home console could pass 1.5M).

It just donned on me that if NX indeed has a unified line of software between handheld and console, sales charts are going to look super funky.

I forgot about the Mario Kart, but I'm not really sure it and Splatoon will reach 1.5 million before the Wii U is replaced.

True but I believe the NX home console won't come in 2016 (just the handheld or whatever) but in 2017, which will give another Christmas for those long sellers.

Tsutaya's report

- Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain had overwhelming sales and faced some stock problems.
- The PS4 version sold the double of the PS3's one. The special version sold the most at Tsutaya's stores, but that's because the standard version had lack of stock.
- Combining sales of both hardware versions, it surpassed Metal Gear Solid IV debut.
- Hardware was also strong for PS4, it sold 3 times more than the past week. Best week of the year for PS4 hardware.

good to see. 50 to 60k ps4 hardware sales would be pretty decent considering it is cross gen

Best week of the year for PS4 hardware, according to Tsutaya.

For reference:

[PS3] Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots <ADV> (Konami) {2008.06.12} - 464.926 / NEW

Whoa hold your horses there's still FFXV, DQXI and of course FFVII remake.

I forgot about the Mario Kart, but I'm not really sure it and Splatoon will reach 1.5 million before the Wii U is replaced.

Or Nintendo is already making Splatoon for NX than WiiU version sales will fall off a cliff.

Funny you should say that right now, as Famitsu announced this morning that SEGA 3D Classics Archives 2 would come out on the 23rd.

I believe the first collection sold rather decently, so I'm not surprised they're releasing a second one.

I... guess it counts as a Road to TGS game? Though I doubt it'll be showcased there at all, to be honest.

Metal Gear going out on a high note, I hope it passes the 1m mark LTD, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

You forgot KH3 and GTAVI.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
KH2 sold 1.2-1.3 million in Japan.

Yeah and that was quite a while ago and PS2 were PES and Dynasty Warriors games were also able to sell a million.

Not saying that KH3 wont be big - especially with a Frozen World...but a lot has happened with the console market and the IP since KH2. Its been a decade.

Excellent, very happy to see MGSV do well.

I don't think KH is such a strong IP in Japan I could be wrong though.

Main entries were 1m+ sellers on PS2. The interest is definitely still there, I'd say, but I doubt KH3 will reach a million on PS4.

MGSV doing great it seems!

I predicted before release that Splatoon would become bigger than Smash Bros. Obviously feeling pretty pleased that I'm going to be right at the very least for one region.
