Forza Motorsport 6 Review Thread

Oh man this is rich.

Someone I know who reviewed the game said he was in some play sessions with the Gamesradar reviewer and this is what he is saying:

"Wow, turns out I actually played with be guy who wrote the Gamesradar review. Spoilers: he knew nothing about the game"

"He was in an Xbox LIVE party with me. He was streaming and someone asked him if the game was 1080p 60fps, and I quote 'I don't really know, is it 1080p 60fps?'"

"He had shit races because he IS shit. He kept crashing everyone out, I'm not sure if he knows how the game works"

seen a couple reviewers who played with him claim that he just kept crashing into everyone lol

If he's the one driving in the review footage then it's not surprising. Plenty of bad driving on show there, but he has a crack at the games "floaty" physics and that some of the cars "feel like they've got beach balls for wheels"(wat...).
I certainly haven't experienced that from any of the cars and no-one I've heard of has complained about that from the demo or finished game.

Fair-enough if he doesn't like the game, but some of his comments are a bit weird.

If the events are dull like he is saying then what good is performance and graphics.

This makes no sense in relation to Forza.

It's a sim style racer. It's about as enjoyable as they get too. Taking a 4 cylinder street car around a track is something people love. That's why I asked if he had ever played GT or Forza before.

This is infuriating. I feel for Turn10 because things like this can financially impact them for no reason. It's hurt the meta score and frankly, by seriously unprofessional journalism.

Eh, it's still hitting the high 80's on metacritic. I'm sure they'll be ok. That was a pretty crap review though.

A lot of people getting worked up over this Gamesradar review. It's a poorly written review but it's hardly damaging.

I would have paid it no mind if GAF had not singled it out.

Ya tracks is a bit deceiving as usual as you have a boatload of variations and then weather which, for many, is going to completely change their lines.

I've been playing FM5 career a lot and every damn time Le Mans comes up it's the bugatti circuit. I usually race D-A class cars, maybe the longer track is reserved for more potent cars... I would appreciate some variety though.

LOL, imagine the uproar if Gamesradar gave Gran Turismo a 6. Trust me, I would be one of them calling for that site to be shut down if they did give GT a 6.

But seriously, I don't care about any reviews as I trust turn 10 and really looking forward to playing this game..heck even more after trying the demo.

Only NOW it is dawning on you guys that we should not trust the casual mainstream reviewers to judge "racing sims" (If you wanna even call Forza that). And that goes for any review, doesn't matter if positive or negative...

Eurogamer seems very positive about what they played so far. They are waiting to play some more and multiplayer before they write their review.

Great reviews.

And move on from the gamesradar review, it's just a single review and he didn't like it as much as others, no need to fret over it.

I really newd to find a way to get my Forza 6 fix in soon, I need more racing games!

I understand that you may not like the Gamesradar review but what you just wrote there sounds slanderous. "Someone I know said X" and "X" really isn't very flattering.

On the whole, Forza 6 is reviewing really well (88 metacritic!), just ignore the outliers.

What's even more infuriating is that review scores have such a bearing anyway.

Honestly, I'm tired of them, Mad Max is a great game, but didn't get the love it deserved and after reading some of the shite about Forza (e.g. that Eurogamer first impression), I'm beginning to think that people need to make their own mind's up about games (as they would with books and films) more often.

Demos (like with Forza) will certainly help with this.

Reviews and metascore are what is killing gaming, not the amount of money invested in top tier or AAA games, although admittedly the publishers are being a bit sneaky with that crowdfunding schizz around Deus Ex, but it's still the customer's choice if they buy it or not.

I like review threads, but there needs to be more discussion around the validity and the toxcity that reviewers are bringing to the industry.

Do they know how hard a few people work to bring pleasure to the masses of gamers?

One review is not as positive among 9s, of a game you haven't played and you guys get upset. Seems real silly.

What does that have to do with anything?

Has anyone re-calc'd the metascore with the Evil Beelezebub Gamesradar Review Of Doom omitted?

Just wondering if it makes much difference at all.

That sounds like iffy information at best. Yes, it sucks when a game you're looking forward to gets a lower score than you would like, but there's no need to go out of your way to discredit that review.

Besides, Forza 6 is reviewing great overall, I'm sure it's gonna be a lot of fun.

Reviews aren't killing gaming, considering that 90% of people probably don't look at reviews. And who care about how much work people are doing?

Metacritic isn't a true average. Some sites are weighted heavier than others, a good example would be ign effecting the meta score significantly more than your typical fanboy site. Omitting one score from the list of reviews wouldn't get you the "score", you'd have to know their formula.

I'm not but it never ceases to amaze me the loops people will go through to defend a game.

Yup. Every review thread is exactly the same.

On topic, I'm not surprised to see this reviewing so well. After playing the demo it was obvious that this game would deliver. I'm super pumped and ready to begin my career again on Thursday.

The straight up average so far is 89.75.

Not including Gamesradar gave an average of 90.85.

Looking good so far. I'll probably buy it in October or November after I have my Elite controller so I can start manually shifting with the paddles right away.

Are you a reviewer?

I did some research on devs as part of my PhD (this was 2007) and they were afraid of taking risks as they said having bad reviews ruins careers and livelihoods.

I'm not going to sit here and say that devs are immune to criticism, but the time and effort they put into it needs to be better acknowledged when devs' families are ignored in favour of making a VIDEOGAME.

Not really surprised by the high scores after playing the demo but it's still cool to see some of those closing comments. Hopefully people can see past the platform wars talk on the boards too and give it a try even if they prefer Gran Turismo, Driveclub, Project Cars etc.

If Forza 6 had Driveclubs everything, it would be the best racing game ever made. But it doesn't, so it isn't.

For this we would need to count in the individual weight metacritic applies to scores. Not that it would change much, of course.

any big sites still missing

Gametrailers daniel bloodworth, who usually does good racing reviews has said that he isn't done yet.
And over at GiantBomb, i think Jeff usually does the racing stuff, at least forza, but i haven't heard anything yet, I'm guessing he'll have something to say on today's bombcast.

I'm getting the Forza itch, but I promised myself I'd wait for GT7 news before buying another racing game. I guess I'll just go back to Forza 5 and Horizon 2 for now.

You might as well just buy Forza now.

We may not hear about GT7 until next year (if the announce same year as release rumors are true)

88 on metacritic? Wasn't expecting that, well done Turn 10 for turning things around after Forza 5 and its 79 metacritic.

Best wishes.

Maybe the GR guy just didn't like the game. He is allowed.

It's not going to ruin anything, it's not going to cost anyone anything, there is nothing wrong with a reviewer stating his or her opinion of a game.

There's also nothing wrong with debating the intelligence of reviewing a sim racer and downgrading it because it isn't an arcade racer.
