Big Drop in Until Dawn Numbers.

No other PS4 title in the Top 20...

i was expecting to see a boast for other PS4 titles also but look like MGS had an opposite effect. :)

24./19. [3DS] Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright / Conquest # <SLG> (Nintendo) {2015.06.25} (¥5.076) - 2.165 / 527.597 <80-100%> (-29%)

Counting first month digital sales around 40k, the game might eventually reach 600k units.

Super mario maker will boost Splatoon numbers.

well, with a 100k opening and a bundle, I do expect some sort of increase, but weren't the COMGNET preorder pretty low (lower than Splatoon ones)?

Mandatory Baisaku cit here: Mario is dead

- Splatoon dropped a bit, but still showing those legs.
- DQVIII looking good
- PS4 gets a big bump as expected
- Not really sure what I expected for MGSV(PS4), but I thought it would be more. Guess this debut is good considering the state of consoles in Japan.

Edit: Looking forward to seeing numbers for Super Mario Maker.

It's kind of weird that Xbox One still seems to be so expensive. You'd think that with these numbers after this long they'd be out there at fire sale prices.

The numbers are surprisingly consistant considering the state of console gaming in Japan now compared to 7 years ago.

Yes but we are looking at a Base which is:

MGSIV only PS3 (was it 2 or 3 mil base?)

vs.

MGSV complete PS3 Base + (-) PS4 Base (over 12 mil)

Edit: + Xbone base :p

Burning money to grab a couple thousand more units down is a waste of time. It's better for MS to just let Japan go permanently

I honestly didn't expect the PS4 version of TPP to sell about 3 times better than the PS3 version, I'm glad that sales of crossgen games are finally shifting more heavily in favor of PS4, hopefully we'll start to see fewer Japanese crossgen games going forward.

Yeesh. Talk about people finding anything negative to grasp onto.

MGSV sold well enough and the PS4 sold well this week.

Yukai Watch is beastly indeed. +1% sales from the previous week.

MGS V did really well IMO if we consider that users now have the option of going digital too.

Really surprised to see the huge bump for PS4.

I haven't been following Japanese sales for a while. Have to say that I'm surprised that MGSV on PS4 outsold the PS3 version there. What's the next big cross-gen game in Japan? Persona?

Seriously.

It's understandable in the States, at least, because they're still doing decent numbers here and don't want to cut into margins any more than they already have. But in Japan, they...really don't have anything to lose. The profits from those 100-200 units/wk can't be that important, LOL.

Maybe they're worried about people importing them since it's region free? I don't know.

I have to say, it's pretty heartening to see that Japanese consumers are slowly but surely converting to the current gen, based on those MGSV sales of both platforms. Maybe it won't be long now until Japanese publishers feel they can completely abandon the PS3/cross-gen and focus entirely on the PS4 with their games.

So according to Media Create, MGS5 on two systems (PS3+PS4) had a worse debut than MGS4 just on PS3? And rathly the same by Famitsu numbers?

Just shows that MGS has its rather hardcore playerbase and having higher installbase doesn't affect its sales that much. I mean even last gen MGS was one of those few franchises on PS3 that didn't see that big decline compared to PS2 gen (MGSIV sold basically same amount as MGS2 and 3).

How is DQ8 doing compared to DQ7?

MediaCreate:
01./01. [3DS] Dragon Quest VII: Fighters of Eden <RPG> (Square Enix) {2013.02.07} (¥6.090) - 184.993 / 1.012.916 (-78%)

03./01. [3DS] Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King <RPG> (Square Enix) {2015.08.27} (¥6.458) - 106.823 / 691.539 (-82%)

A pretty similar drop in the second week, but way smaller numbers overall. I'd say it was pretty evident for many reasons, but still...good numbers but not great.

Yeah I knew numbers would be a bit smaller but ratio seems to be consistent. Thank you.

Hopefully MGSV can keep PS4 afloat for a while, though I doubt it.
Great to see numbers rise when they should though.

Nice to see that Japan is finally abandoning PS3 and that base is transitioning on PS4.
PS4 hardware sales have enjoyed a really nice comeback compared to last year abysmal post-launch situation.
Let's see what surprises they have in store for Japan next week at TGS, including of course a final release date for Persona 5 later this year.

isnt' that process already started? I think that we saw various PS4/Vita only games announced from Japanese publishers recently, skipping the PS3 version. I know that Vita ins't "only PS4", but I'd say that this could be the way for Japanese "Sony" games.

Yep, pretty consistent, at a lower "range"

I just remembered that at PS3 version of MGS4 had stupid partial installation. Today we have not only full install but also digital version.

Time flies by..

Disappointing numbers for MGSV IMO. And very frontloaded probably too. Next-gen transition is pretty poor. 1/4th still on PS3.

Userbase size doesn't really matter for games that largely appeal to a specific hardcore fanbase. You'd think this would have been clear from the past 2-3 generations of software sales.
