I still preorder stuff because I'm not all or nothing, I give devs the benefit of the doubt. I have Uncharted Collection preordered because if I'm burned by Bluepoint, it'd be a first - and last.

But people preordering Halo or Fallout... Publishers aren't the only ones that haven't learned anything.

Assassin's Creed: Syndicate
Fallout 4
Star Wars Battlefront

Could see Just Cause 3 having problems on consoles. It looks pretty ambitious.

I just expect games to be broken at this point...

I don't buy games on the release date anymore unless it's something I REALLY want (Bioware) or it's a Nintendo game.

Outside of possibly Battlefront, Fallout 4 has to take the crown. While Ubisoft and EA have gotten a slap on the wrist in the past, Bethesda got a giant pat of the back.

I'd be in the dick
Assassin's Creed, Fallout 4, Battlefront and Halo 5 are all candidates. Instead of wanting them to name names just don't preorder those games. Wait.

Trust me, I'm not preordering any of those. None of those games are from studios I feel comfortable preordering from. Thankfully Battlefront is the only one I'm interested and that's getting an open beta.

Surprised to see Fallout 4 with most of the votes. I know the PS3 version was utter shite, but I thought the Xbox 360 was a decently good port? (due to the PS3 having a lesser CPU or something?). My vote goes to AC Syndicate.

I just hope that Bethesda studio's confidence to release the game so close to the announcement is reflected on the games polish at launch. Not that I'm expecting anywhere near MGS2 levels of polish but for it to at least be better then their last few games.

A boy can dream.

Man, that poll is pretty tough. A lot of great contenders on there but I went with the sure-fire Bethesda game.

I just think with Bethesda people are just used to their games having a lot of bugs and glitches

If were talking just pure number of bugs I would go with Fallout. If were talking about how bad the bugs will be in regards to enjoying the game I'm guessing either Rainbow Six of Battlefront, with crippling MP bugs and Assassins Creed for poor performance.

Please stop pre-ordering folks.

I wonder what games will be disasters this year.

Please stop telling me what to do with my money.

I'm not entirely sure where this misconception that preorders are why devs and pubs skip fixing defects. When you have a deadline you either spend more to fix the most you can or you sacrifice quality and prioritize defects the best you can. Stopping preorders does not fix this concept.

If anything, they might even spend some of that money on QA and debugging.

Battlefront will release no matter what condition its in
Disney doesn't play and wants advertising everywhere for the movie x $$$$$$

assassins creed as well because of last year, ubisoft doesn't care

Well, I picked Fallout 4, but that's mainly because I'm only really familiar with Bethesda games (the unofficial patches for their games still seem to be updated as they find new bugs) and Assassin's Creed.

Don't be that guy.

Nobody likes that guy.
I remember when the tireless whining cynic was the guy that nobody liked, lol. Can't blame people for lowering their expectations re: Bethesda at all, but from my perspective there is reason to believe that they won't be making the mistakes they've made with prior flagship games of theirs, not the least of which being that F4 has basically been finished for months or that Beth expects such profound success from the game that it leads their push into trying to secure EA and Activision levels of household relevancy. Who knows, though.

I doubt it'll be battlefront. EA may already have the Star Wars licence, but I bet Disney have been very hands-on with quality control for all areas of the Star Wars franchise, and I doubt video games escape their gaze.

Which will probably be why the game will be very light on content.

Battlefront to me is looking like one that will have many issues, the game is being rushed out before the movie as part of the hype train for it and that kind of deadline is never a good thing. Plus the game is lacking quite a bit in my opinion with it being multiplayer only.

Was gonna post this.
You guys see the thread of preorder apologists a few days back? They're literally hurting the industry, but trust me they don't care. Preorders will continue because consumers gotta consume. People hate being told that the foolish things they do with their money are foolish.

Literally lost interest in the game the second I found out there was no single player. Who ever wanted Battlefield Star Wars? Star Wars is a story focused franchise, and they're releasing a game with literally no story. Just pure stupidity.

Generally I agree, but honest question, are preorders ever okay in your book?

I usually preorder stuff if I can get a special edition of it or something like that. Probably the biggest example of that, and this is coming from a guy who rarely preorders games, is Zero Escape 3. If you preordered when the watches were still in stock, you'll get the watch with your copy of the game. The preorders were up on Amazon for a while, and I think the non-watch preorder is still up, but the watch ones sold out already. We have yet to see a single screenshot of the game even, and the only thing we have seen about it is a key artwork for the game and discussion of it by the game's director. Obviously playing the first two, we know some of what it will be about, but the thing is that people that want ZE3 know they want it no matter what, and expect it to be the satisfying ending to the trilogy. The game is about a year out.

I'm not willing to take a gamble on Battlefront, I'll jump in around Spring if all looks well.

There is a Bethesda game on the horizon though, so we know that will be partially busted for sure.

The Steam equivalent of the drunk friend who keeps offering to pay your tab all night.
I was going to say please not Fallout but Bathesda games are always broken or at the very least janky anyway so it's a moot point :p

I don't think VMC (is it MCV now?!) has Fallout 4 for play testing since that's a single player game, but I guess we can take that one for granted :p

It's funny. People in the other thread were saying this looks nothing like Battlefield and therefore it didn't interest them. And yet people are saying it's Battlefield: Star Wars.

BTW, you don't need to worry about story SW game, I'm sure that the one Amy Hennig is working on will be fine.

Well that's kind of the idea of Battlefront. Anyway since they are just going back to the same environments from the first trilogy it was never going to be that interesting just to have that same story retold.

I am excited for that, but I still wanted a story in Battlefront. But I'm in the minority these days, seems like all people want to do now is go shooty shooty bang bang at people online while screaming through their headphones without any context as to why the shooting is happening. Oh well, if they like it that's cool I guess, just not my thing.

There's no incentive to quit releasing unpolished garbage so this is no real surprise. If people would start putting their money where their brain is maybe we could see change.

Please stop telling me what to do with my money.

I'm sorry, but I can't do that. If you have a friend with a gambling problem, drug habit, or is just piss poor at managing their money do you just stay silent and watch, letting them continue to screw themselves over? What about if their spending habits start affecting your life?

As for the "misconception", let's look at Deus Ex. So Deus Ex preorders hit their high, the game comes out 4 days early!... But it's not ready yet. Lots of bugs, game breaking glitches, graphic errors, rough textures and a broken mp. But who cares, the money has been put down, the sales are pretty much guaranteed. A delay not only breaks Square's pre order agreement but gives people time to pull their money away for another purchase, or cancel the pre order from a lack of hype or whatever reason. Release the game broken, who cares they'll just fix it months after they've pocketed all those $60+ pre order and first week sales. Reviews don't matter, they haven't made a difference yet and the bulk of consumers don't read/watch them anyway.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of viable reasons to put down a pre order, from limited runs and special editions that are in short supply to it just being a way of slowly paying off a game over time 'cause you're just the kind of person that needs to do that. But just pre ordering just because, for games that will never be in short supply and " day one" editions that will be available for years, is ridiculous and sends the message that you'll buy in no matter what it turns out to be. And then I/b] have to deal with the ramifications, then I have to wait months for the patches and fixes and hope beyond hope that enough is taken care of that it will be in a rightly playable state. It would just be nice if people would stop selling out for some stupid piece of digital in-game crap and hold some of these companies to some kind of higher expectation.

I know it's not nice, but there's a selfish part of me that hopes that NFS gets really bad connectivity issues and EA is forced to patch out that online-only shit due to the resulting backlash.

Fallout 4 is a prime candidate, given Bethesda's history and the inherent proneness of huge open-world games to bugs...but it's been in development for a long time. I had to give the edge to Battlefront, which is also coming from a company with a history of buggy releases and which has been rushed to get finished in about two years.

This is nonsense. If it were all about the bottom line, they wouldn't patch it at all, since developing and testing patches cost a lot of money. Deployment costs money, too, but that's cheaper.

The argument is that if you preorder, they'll have little incentive to patch, since they already have your money. But, on the other hand, if no one preorders the game, they'll also have little incentive to patch it, since it would be a waste of time and money to patch a game that people aren't even buying.

Now, if you preorder, they actually have incentive to make sure the release is good, since they can gauge the popularity of their game for potential sequels and stuff.

I guess it's just that when "tireless whining cynic" is the default, you adapt :p

Personally, I find it kind of tiring too, but the wall of shame guy is never a good look. Remember the Ant-Man crow thread?

Understandable. I too was a bit disappointed that it wasn't going to have a story, but to be honest I'm fine with that, considering that BF3 and BF4 had terrible campaigns.

I'm kind of worried for Mirror's Edge Catalyst because of that.
