...Did Hino seriously give a presentation on how amazing he thinks he is and referred to himself as the "authority of management and emperor decision"?

Well, it's more about the writer's point of view. I read something about "Emperor's Judgment" a word that the author used to describe Hino's "power" at taking decisions at Level-5.

Thanks for the list of Asian countries where Sony is present. How much would the consumer base amount over there?

Well, it's not that he's not really some smart business man and game creator.

Ah, that makes a lot more sense.

It would just come across as cartoonish regardless, but given he just made the business presentation about how they found success that seems completely normal and helpful to other companies, which is the idea of CESA.

In regards to Nintendo entering Asia market.

I don't see them making any impact at all to be honest.

But then I'm basing that on their current products and capabilities over what NX might bring.

In 2014 they said they plan to introudce new console for emerging markets and are studying china market to examine potentials

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/05/08/us-nintendo-emergingmarkets-idUSBREA4703U20140508

Then they delayed their plans

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...erging-market-console-in-favor-of-smartphones

Wonder if this is still a thing? They don't talk much about it.

Do their consoles/software not have much potential appeal in Asia?

Do their consoles/software not have much potential appeal in Asia?

Asia is very online focused, and important factors often revolve around things like character creation/selection with lots of vanity options, persistent progression features, and being able to easily find, communicate with, and play with your friends.

They're getting closer to that, but there are some hurdles still, certainly.

They seem to be doing alright in South Korea (only the 3DS is out there btw).

They never actually tried to enter any of the other markets, that's why its hard for them to make any impact so late in the game, difficult but not impossible.

Splatoon F2P. Time to take Asia by storm.

They actually tried to officially enter Malaysia back in DS days afaik... but failed hard due to rampant piracy here. Now they just let Maxsoft handles the distributions... which is lol (but at least that company improved a lot lately)

Here are a few years using actual data from Ubisoft:

Ubisoft in 2014 were ranked 3rd in the world for physical game sales according to industry data.

In the US for 2014 they held 10.1% market share at third place and in EMEA region they held third place but with much higher 14.3% market share.

Again. All physical copies. Data is according to NPD and GfK.

In Ubisofts 2014/2015 year they saw production costs hit $540 million for all their games (cumulative total) whilst revenue from game sales hit $1655 million.

Do their consoles/software not have much potential appeal in Asia?

Not at all. Mainly because they haven't had any sort of official presence in these countries outside of grey imports or super limited time/investment.

Even Microsoft has more of a presence over Nintendo in Asia with Sony of course being the number one console brand in these countries.

Nintendo don't do marketing or much localisation support either and the games don't sell hardware over there.

If Nintendo want to succeed in Asia they need to launch their next hardware products there and localise games + introduce social online games in the form of F2P titles. They should start by localising and promoting the crap out of their mobile games there.

Man it would be a real shame if some of the key decisions are somehow made based on the data from Chartzzzzz. That would suck for sure.

You have to hand it to Brett, he sure knows how to run a business and fool the world. I'm sure he does have a very sophisticated model with which to somewhat accurately predict sales + have more market research available to him because of the popularity of the site but it's still laughable when NPD have tracked <750k units for Forza Motorsport 2 in the USA but Chartz has it over 2.15m.

Doesn't Nintendo have big presences in Korea and Taiwan?

And then he changes it to match up more with NPD when he gets publicly available data.

Nintendo Phuten (their Taiwan subsidiary) was closed over a year ago, so I dunno about Taiwan.

They seem to be doing all right in Korea, as far as doing Directs specifically for there.

I mean yeh they do have presences there but I wouldn't say "big". If anything it's the opposite of big. I know they localise some games there but I think the overwhelming majority is just Japanese version. Also Wii U hasn't launched in Asia, just 3DS.

Unfortunately I don't know enough about Korea market to comment.

Yup. Every month.

Continuing with the translation.

Thanks very much again for your time to translate this.

I think they are doing well in Korea considering you hear news about games getting localized there. Especially for games that haven't been announced for localized here.

Huh... Listening to the latest 8-4 Play podcast and someone mentioned a rumour that Level 5's Hino is being looked at as a potential future leader for Nintendo.

I'm not sure that's a legit rumour and even if it is it sounds somewhat hard to believe.

Could explain why their PS4 game disappeared!

If that came with Level 5 itself, that'd be huge, but Hino himself as leader, I dunno honestly. :/

For real? wow that put things in perspective, I mean even MS released XB1 there.

Yeh, Wii U hasn't released in many places to be honest.

Microsoft are starting to get a bit more serious about Asia, they're localising Halo 5, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza 6 and Fable.

But they need to do more because their third party support in Asia is atrocious with only a couple of big exclusive games but all the rest are either PlayStation exclusive or have good marketing relations with PlayStation brand.

Like Metal Gear Solid 5 for example is only coming to PS3/PS4 in Asia despite it being multiplatform worldwide.

It's a really a shame (and stupid) that Konami abandoned console market when there's an obvious demand for their games. I really hope their shareholders realise soon this mistake, demand an entire management shake up and restore it's former self, like Square Enix it's doing.

The Mr. Hino rumor makes no sense.
Even ignoring that he approaches the market completely different from Nintendo, it's not like he's even that close with Nintendo.

It's time for that new TCG & MOBA IP from the lads and ladies at Garage Nintendo.

wow just watched a Tokyo Xanadu CM on Chuou line, usually I don't see game CMs here and when they are up usually are nintendo ones

It's always difficult for those companies to expand mobile IP's boundaries into other markets. Do we have any example that was actually a long-term success outside mobile? F2P games become popular because they are free and everyone can play them on mobile - understanding how much interest can be gathered on other platforms / media is not automatic.

Konami is going where the growth market is, and rightfully so despite the fact that you or I may no be a fan of it. I just don't think that Consoles can be saved, despite Square's attempt.

I can think of a lot of successes the other direction, but yeah, usually people don't want to go to something that isn't a service after having a service.

We even saw Phantasy Star on dedicated devices implode after PSO2 became a sustaining major hit.

Yup. Nintendo actually goes into SEA by having that Mon Hun exclusive here. The only thing they need more next time is to make sure that FF is going to come to their platform then, SEA is more or less going to be on Nintendo ship lol.^_^

Not bad at all - DQVIII might well become the best-selling DQ of the year.
