Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

So 3 games will be internally developed, That's more interesting.

So even if QD or Level-5 games are revealed they aren't in that list, Now I am hoping PGW and PSX both will have 2 SCE games.

Verendus is SCE still thinking of collaborating with new external developers on AAA games after The Order 1886?

Bloodborne and Until Dawn are AAA games developed by external studios (I know Studio Japan has their hands on BB), and both are great games and have been selling really well as far as we know.

The Order is not a deal breaker case.

Well, there'll be two further From collaborations, and that'll make three in total from them. So just by those alone, the answer is yes. Beyond them, the answer is still yes because there are others. There are always going to be collaborations for bigger titles. It depends on the working relationship, and synergy. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don't. That's just normal.

It's not like The Order was a huge catastrophe that made SCE WWS consider everything differently moving forward. It's a bit harsh to lay it on like that. Also, I really liked that game.

Too many open world games, even from SCE.

More linear and sandbox games, with better level design. Moar!
Yeah they just release another collaboration game with Until Dawn.

Also Supermassive Games was not really known so I am glad Sony gave them the chance.

Word, I was being facetious. I even made a thread a few months back complaining about all the open world games hah.

Hope there's always room for the Uncharteds and The Orders of the world

This wait is killing us tho man
Kinda like that girl you keep dating for months who keeps telling you "yeah yeah we're going to have sex it's just that i'm not ready and i don't know when i'll be"
When they are revealed, at least you won't be waiting too long. Think of it this way, what benefit do you get out of officially knowing that FF7R actually exists? None, really. You're going to be waiting years, and eventually, a lot of you are going to be upset about why it was announced so early. It's better to wait in uncertainty, because you can put it away in the back of your mind, since you don't know any better. Once you know of something, and have to wait a very long time, then it's just tedious. Game announcements shouldn't be further than 18 months out in my eyes in a worst case scenario. Ideally, they should be 12 months. That's plenty of time to get the messaging right, and consistently deliver interesting news to keep fans engaged.

The early generation is what really messed it up, because you're forced to show a lot of content that can take a long time getting ready. SCE is at a stage now however, where they're in a position to begin controlling that flow. A lot of those old games are soon to be released, but since they've taken so long, other projects being under the shadows allows them to be revealed and released in a more timely manner. But then there are scheduling issues, and it's a vicious cycle.

2-3 years between announcement and release is just too much, and there have been several cases of that already just from SCE. No one wants that. Not the publisher or the fans. I think that's part of why people are frustrated with SCE too. There were several games announced in 2013 that aren't yet released. Uncharted 4, Rime, The Witness, Shadow of the Beast, and I might have even forgotten something. Even worse is that the delayathon is made public, and that then annoys fans more.

The delayathon is something that needs to remain hidden, and not exposed to the world. That's how it was in the past after all. He may have been as strong as a bull, as quick as a cat, this and that, but he was in the shadows.

Hey Verendus, sorry for the random question, but it was in reference to your comment about The Order. How did that fare for SCE? I know it was critically panned, but commercially speaking, was it successful or was it a failure and so RAD went multiplatform?

one of these devs should do a psasbr. or they should just hire bandai namco to do it.

Nope. Only the Blue Bomber can work on PABR2.

More From collabs makes me happy.
You referring to Bloodsouls type games and not Armored Core, right Verendus? Pls be more BB games

Verendus, what can you tell us about SSM's next God of War?

Think there will be a reveal soon? Cory Barlog has been back in the fold since August, 2013, and while I do understand that the cancelled game has had a toll on development, I really hope they announce it soon, or just tease it with an official confirmation so we can rest at ease.

I am okay with studios taking their time to announce their games (like Guerrilla did with Horizon), because once I see them in the spotlight, I start anticipating them and the wait begins.

We are enduring some record-breaking waits (especially JRPG fans lol) so if they can delay some announcemens to minimise the gap between debut showing and release I say go for it! :)

I have a feeling SSM might not reveal a teaser of GoW4, and might just reveal it properly, with gameplay footage, like what Guerrilla did with Horizon, and wow everyone with that. A simple teaser just wouldn't work and will not hype up anyone anymore.

If that really is the case, we might be looking at E3.

Spot on. The 7 was in reference to internal games, so external partners don't count even if they're first party games. The discussion back then stemmed from people feeling Sony's own studios weren't showing much, and falling behind or whatever, which was the reason why. It's like how people don't really consider Bloodborne or The Order 1886 when they get disappointed about how Sony's own studios aren't showing their games.

To be fair, some of SCE's internal studio output have been quite underwhelming. Japan Studio have only produced a couple of small projects on home console in the last few years, and tbh I cannot even remember their last big project... Ape Escape ? Granted, they just announced two ambitious titles, and if we believe you they have another bigger one in preparation, but I will have to wait and see... Similarly, Polyphony Digital isn't a very efficient studio, especially when confronted to the competition...

Bend, we haven't heard a thing in 4 years... And last but not least is Santa Monica, one of their biggest studio afaik, and the only thing they produced in the last 5 years is one single underwhelming iteration of their franchise, with nothing in sight so far from their side. Sure, they also have many collaborations, and their last project got canned for some reason, but in any case, their internal output has been quite disappointing since God of War 3 released back in 2010.

On the other side, their other studios are creating great games on a regular basis (Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Guerilla Games, and Media Molecule are all on a 2-3 years cycle). I don't understand how there can be such a difference in productivity from their team. Well I guess I can understand that Japanese studio had some catching up to do, and they have been showing some great things, but Bend and SSM... Had Sony decided to shut them down 5 years ago, their total output and announcement wouldn't have been very different...

I liked the game too, its just that PS3 generation SCE was really good with external developers, we got awesome games like LBP and Heavy Rain and a lot of others collaborations.

If I was in Shu's position, or organizing things, I'd go Gran Turismo around PGW, Benders at PSX, and leave "GOW" for E3 next year. Throw in one or two smaller titles at PGW and PSX, and it's a strong way to close off the year in terms of announcements. Third party titles, and partnerships can carry the rest easily. For selfish reasons, I'd want GT at PSX instead, but that's besides the point.

I think this is the case as well. If SSM's game is there, it will be a stage demo.

When would you reveal the new Colony Wars?

So GT7 reveal this year is a real possibility?

I feel this makes the most sense, since Europe is GT's biggest market.

Verendus, out of all the unannounced first party games, which one would you say looks to be the most ambitious?
I haven't seen them all, but from what I have seen and know of in general, I'm anticipating Sucker Punch, Benders, and Japan Studio the most at the moment. Don't really care about the rest if I'm honest, except SSM but that's number four, even though it's more ambitious than all of these titles. (This means internal games obviously, since if we include partnerships, then there are a couple more I'm interested in.) Undecided on which of the three I want most. Sucker Punch because I really think they can knock it out of the park, and are on the verge of making something great. I've always thought highly of them, and feel they have the potential. Benders because they're covering my favourite genre, and I'm always begging for more of those games. JS, not necessarily because it's more ambitious than the other games (it's not), but because it's different, interesting, and still big enough.

All after Nathaniel Drake obviously, since he's the best of the best.

Edit:

*skeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrt*

Slam the brakes man, don't want to go poking the tiger but I just happen to have a sharpened stick laying around and my arm starts flailing wildly so I can't be asked to control it - BUT - this is TWO not counting the BB DLC?
Yeah. I've mentioned this in the past already. Bloodborne is number one, and there's an agreement for two more games. I mean, it doesn't really work like that exactly, but whatever, let's just say it like that. They're working on game two as it stands, and game three will follow after that. I don't think we have to worry about them not hitting PS4 for all three. They're machines.

Even though Bloodborne was a let down for me this is hype.

They did a great job with lighting in Second son and I cant wait to see what they will achieve in their next game. Seems like all Sony first party games are doing really next gen stuff like already released games with the technology they got from PS4. Sony really has studios who can do wonders if given an opportunity and this time with PS4 success we might see more of them in future.

You totally forgot about Deep Down, What has happened to that, 3 trademarks in NA and Europe, still no Beta leaving Japan empty, not even a new video and it was revealed 2 years ago. Hope it's not dead.

there isn't a chance that bloodborne could become a series?

I think a From Developer confirmed a sequel on their facebook page and had it deleted but their third game I doubt it will be bloodborne 3.
