What is it?

Iron-Blooded Orphans is the next series in the long running Gundam franchise. It's the first ~50 episode show since Gundam Age.

What's it About?

300 years after a great conflict between Earth and Mars known as the "Calamity War," a woman named Cordelia sets out on a journey to Earth to speak for the independence of the Martian city of Chryse, which is under the control of the Earth government. Escorting her is the private security company CGS members Mikazuki Augus and Orga Itsuka. When a group named Gjallarhorn attacks CGS and Cordelia, Orga sees this as a chance to rebel against CGS and launch a coup. Mikazuki and Orga are thrust into a new conflict. To fend off Gjallarhorn, Mikazuki rides an old mobile suit from the Calamity War, powered by a nuclear reactor, the Gundam Barbatos.

Why Should I Care?

Are you not a self-flagellating Gundam fan? Well, Iron-Blooded Orphans seems to be an interesting new concept and the staff are people that have some serious fans (as well as detractors). Given this is the first serious Gundam series to get a major push since AGE, it's probably worth a shot. The robot designs are pretty new and different as well.

I'm new to Gundam, is this a good place to start
Unlike the last couple major Gundam anime, Iron-Blooded Orphans is set in a new alternate timeline with absolutely no connection to previous stuff. Feel free to jump right in.

Who's Making It?

Studio: Sunrise (Gundam, Gintama, Cowboy Bebop)
Director: Tatsuyuki Nagai (A Certain Scientific Railgun, The Flower We Saw That Day, Toradora!)
Writer: Mari Okada (The Flower We Saw That Day, Black Butler, Aquarion Evol,Toradora!)
Music: Masaru Yokoyama (Nobunaga the Fool, Queen's Blade)
Mechanical Design: Naohiro Washio(Gundam 00, Valvrave), Kanetake Ebikawa(Gundam 00, Gundam Build Fighters), Ippei Gyōbu(Gundam Reconguista in G), Kenji Teraoka(Gundam 00, Gundam AGE, Valvrave), Tamotsu Shinohara (Kamen Rider Faiz, Kamen Rider Ryuki)

When Does it Start and Where Can I Watch?

Iron-Blooded Orphans will start October 4th in Japan at 5pm. The show will be available for 242 countries on Daisuki on October 4th at 6:30 AM EDT. In NA, it will also be available on Gundam.info and Hulu at that time with Funimation and Crunchyroll streams coming a week later.

Will this show have Model Kits and Action Figures?

It wouldn't be Gundam if it didn't! In fact, Iron-Blooded Orphans is getting a huge push from Bandai the likes we haven't seen in a while. There will be a massive 1/144 HG kit line with interchangeable parts and weapons as well as a 1/100 line with a full inner frame and customization gimmicks. You can also expect other various action figures, SD stuff and tons of other little toys if that's what you're after. There are many places to buy, but I'd suggest taking a look at HLJ or AmiAmi.

I want more Gundam!

In that case, why not hop over to the Offical Gundam Youtube Channel to check out some of the shows they have on offer or head on over to the offical Neogaf Gundam Community. We'd be happy to have you.

Main suit of the series. Since most MS in this universe use the same frame, can cannibalize parts from other suits. Will gradually be rebuild and upgraded over the course of the show.

I'm hyped but don't expect anything mind-blowing.

I got used to the art style and it seems there are a lot of things that vaguely resemble 00.

The song for PV#1 was great, haven't seen the others.

That title. Excellent.

All right Mari Okada. Ano Hana was the only thing from you that I watched. I didn't hate it, didn't exactly love it, I just found it average with a few good moments.

Please don't screw this up.

You don't have a main cast that large if you aren't planning on killing a significant number of them.

There are literal red shirts in the show. People are getting axed off. I'm starting to suspect Orga might get backstabbed by Eugene for maximum drama.

Another Gundam series I probably won't watch all the way through the end. I dropped AGE and G-Reco early on, so I don't have high hopes for Tekketsu.

Orga will 'die' at the end of Season 1 and a secret masked character will appear that looks suspiciously like him in Season 2.

I'll be amazed if the childhood friend (Atra) makes it to episode 3. She's prime meat.

"YAMATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

After 00, I'm gonna need to wait for reviews or for the season to be over before I invest anything in it.

Also I'm getting real tired of the token female princess character asking for peace. I know it's a Gundam staple but still.

Gundam names are silly, but making this OT has made me realize just how many dumb names are in Iron-Blooded Orphans. Eugene Seven Stark, Ride Mass, Kudelia Aina Bernstein. Oh boy.
Nothing beats Jamitov Hymen or Quattro Vagina. Or the dumb shit in 00, Sergei fucking Smirnov.

Can't really get hype if it's not Universal Century.

I'll watch it, but the next series after this better be Crossbone, Hathaway's Flash, or Beltorchika's Children (manga is ongoing already).

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Hope it's as good, if not better than 00 - tried to watch the other Gundam shows but couldn't even bother finishing the first episode.

I can almost guarantee that the next series will be Tomino's apology for Victory and Reconguista.
It will be the worst thing ever.

Is this a 1-cour or 2-cour show?

I actually haven't paid enough attention to see if there was official confirmation, but with the push it's getting, it's certainly a 2-cour+ show. Most likely we get around 50 episodes with a break.

I don't like the character design that much, but I hope this is a more serious Gundam series. I love the fact that it is going to 50 episodes.
