Guys, there aren't going to be dinosaurs because Ubisoft Editorial decreed around five years ago that all their major ~$15+ million dollar projects should drop all fantasy and any heavy sci-fi themes (like, beyond the extent of what you see in Tom Clancy or Assassin's Creed where it's generally modern day).

If you look at Assassin's Creed, Watch_Dogs, Tom Clancy, or even things like For Honor, they all follow this.

Im sure its been posted but are we sure its not this again??

This is Osiris. It was canned because it was about fighting mythical creatures and gods and that's a no-no for a big budget at Ubisoft.

Let just say that you will most likely never get a non-anachronistic dinosaur game simply because people want to have a Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus, and famous sauropods at the same time and place.

Then what do you call Blood Dragon?

Ahh thats what that turned out to be huh. I figured it may have been a POP/aac style game.

Im playing Far Cry 4 at the moment.. not sure how they'd make it a game set in a primal age haha. But it could be cool.

Probably a game that didn't have a $15mil+ budget, like Child of Light, etc... ?

Correct.

With a low budget you have way more flexibility.

That said this is also probably a downloadable title, but I still think they'd shy away from dinosaurs given what they do.

Blood Dragon was also originally conceived as as a drug trip DLC so they had some more flexibility on that end before it became its own mini thing, as you'd wake up and it was all fake.

Wasn't this a Prince of Persia spiritual successor game and wasn't it cancelled because Ubisoft still has a silly notion that PoP and AC are too similar and would confuse consumers?

IIRC, it was a new IP called Osiris that got turned into Prince of Persia and then back into a new IP called Osiris and then eventually killed.

They did reuse some concept art lacking the monsters/gods in Assassin's Creed later since it looks similar aesthetically.

Why would you shy from dinosaurs after the bank they just made this year. You'd be the only AAA game in town. Hell this game seems more risky than something with dinosaurs

I've had trouble finding the interview again given it was so long ago, but basically they felt that for these big investments, they wanted worlds people would really relate to because they felt it would make their products sell notably better.

They would be looking at things like GTA and CoD and seeing that as the barometer of such.

This was before Jurassic World became the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time. Also, Ark Survival Evolved is one of the biggest games on Steam, and Horizon got a great reception at E3. Dinosaurs are in, now. They may have changed their minds.

I mean, this is Ubisoft, but it's still possible.

next time someone makes a game about any other historical period i'm gonna go in and shitpost about how it needs steampunk zeppelins piloted by nazis and vikings or else it's a massive missed opportunity that squanders the fact that it takes place in "history"

This and horizon sound kinda similar.

I don't know about that. We don't know much about how Horizon is actually structured as a game, and presumably this will be structured very much like every other Far Cry game. But aside from that, Horizon is a post-post-apocalypse, very far in the future with a definite sci-fi bent to it with technology and robot dinosaurs. This looks straight up set in the ice age, primitive humans and mammoths/saber tooth tigers/wolves.
