Far Cry Primal announced: Trailer, PC/PS4/XB1, February 2016, $59.99

Ah, wasn't aware of that. You're definitely more well-versed on the subject than I. Any good articles to check out?
Unfortunately it's been a while since I've been able to academically pursue prehistoric archeology. I do remember evidence showing women with bone damage associated with hunting as well as from weapons. Evidence points to the women being the ones who would manufacture weapons and tools. While hunters were majority male, there is evidence is various ancient cultures of women in violent roles.

The concept of gendered societal rolls didn't really emerge until settled agriculture and civilization did.

Man, they better not skimp on the megafauna

I want to see stuff like this

This needs to be Coop. Because so far, it just looks like another farcry 3 reskin... and i dont think that i would waste 60 bucks into a Ubisoft game without any coop play.

The Trailer for the game looked looked like that you can play the game in Coop. But if this is SP only? Skip

Will be funny is there's regular old multiplayer and no co-op.

But really, it seemed that co-op was a hit in FC4.

I remember Ubi devs at PSX last year talking about how much they enjoyed watching peoples co op vids online.

I'm kind of still in shock that a new Far Cry is coming out in February. This is how game announcements should be done. Announce, and then release four months later.

The setting has me super excited. The bow and stealth mechanics are the best parts of the last two FC games for me, and it seems like this would be doubling down on that. The only down side is that primitive bows aren't going to have the power for distance shots unless they bend history, and I love trying to pull off long range bow shots. Also, good god the game is gorgeous.

Don't want to sound too negative, but Ubisoft really needs to pull some nice tricks out of the hat to get me back on board.

I loved Far Cry 3, but I admit it had some huge flaws. Played Far Cry 4 and for the first hours nothing changed, because more of the same. After 10 hours or so hated it with a passion.

Ubisoft for me is like a exchangeable pretty girl with absolutely no personality. Everything screams "focus testing" about them.

It's a french company and yet it goes something like that:
Far Cry 3: Even Americans hated the yolo hipster rucksack-tourism protagonist
Far Cry 4: "We listen to our customers" - We will give you a protagonist with Asian background but who lives in America. His name is AJ (English pronunciation)

Blood Dragon was the last good Ubisoft game I have played.

Entered the series with FC4 and it was way too repetitive and boring, had a terrible story and because its Ubisoft I dont have much hope that they will change the formula so Im out...

I disagree. There are very few games that take place in this time period and it makes a lot of sense for Far Cry's mechanics. It is indeed a breath of fresh air.

Watch it being essentially the same Ubisoft Game™. I'm kinda expecting some sort of a gun in it too - like a spear gun or something. The setting can't help the gameplay not be the same.

That's still pretty cool, though. How many games explore the French or American Revolution? The Italian Renaissance? Third Crusades?

If you're playing for the history lessons then sure.

Can't wait to see their ridicilous equivalents of prehistoric radiotowers and whatnot.

Cause there's no way they're NOT gonna ubiopenworld the shit outta this right? :(

It's as much of a breath of fresh air as any new AC setting is.

I know you're being sarcastic but they kind of are. Actual history is largely untapped outside AC, and despite those games faults it's great being able to explore famous historical periods. More so than some dork's derivitive sci-fi universe or whatever.

I know right? South Park, Anno, Trials and Gone Home are so designed by committee.

Yeah, their non-AAA stuff can be pretty interesting, you don't get something like Valiant Hearts from a lot of the other big publishers.

Their AAA stuff though, that's another story...

I'm really not. Ubisoft is riding this formula for quite some time already. They do a reskin of their successful game and call it a day. It's easier than making a sequel even because in a reskin you don't have to actually improve anything, you just leave the gameplay as it was. This may work for a couple of times but at some point you're just getting tired of playing the same game over and over again.

Will be glad to be wrong about FCPrimal but my faith in Ubisoft is at an all time low right now.

Are you saying that AC1, AC2, AC3 and AC4 all have the same gameplay?

I don't think you read my post, or the post that you quoted initially lol. They were all about the setting, and the fact that Ubi soft, despite their faults, do use interesting settings that other companies don't touch. The post I quoted was you saying the settings of AC aren't fresh, which is dumb.

No, not AC1/2/rest but ACB, ACR, AC3, AC4 (mostly), AC5, ACR and AC6 probably do.

I was saying that FCP's setting is as much a breath of fresh air for FC franchise as any new AC setting is for AC franchise. You seems to misunderstood or I wasn't clear.

You just happened to mention four games that were only published by Ubisoft, not made by Ubisoft Montreal, Quebec, Shanghai, or any of their other worldwide studios.

Redlynx, Blue Byte are fully owned by Ubisoft, the new South Park is made by Ubisoft San Francisco and I meant Grow Home (which was made by Ubisoft Reflection) instead of Gone Home

Set in 10,000 BC, Far Cry Primal follows Takkar, "a seasoned hunter and the last surviving member of his hunting group." As players survive in the land of Oros, "they will have to craft weapons and tools partly from the bones of slain beasts, hunt for food, master fire, fend off fierce predators and face off against other tribes to conquer Oros."

You're the smartest person in the world in this game.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I loved the gunplay most about Far Cry and this essentially strips it of that element. I'm sure it'll end up being fun, but I'm just not really that hyped for it quite yet.

Graphically it looks fine, but it doesn't blow me away. Setting-wise, it doesn't quite excite me yet but maybe more videos will increase that.

I agree. Say what you will about the stale gameplay and collect-a-thons in Ubi games, but they routinely nail the settings. I can't think of any other company that has done so many real historical settings so well. They frankly have been the best part of AC. A pure joy.

Yeah after the Horizon e3 demo this looks like shit. Sorry Ubi no buy.

Let's not be too hyperbolic, shall we?

Far Cry going in this direction is pretty shocking, and certainly not something we see anywhere. This reminds me of the best parts of the 2005 King Kong game, and focusing on survival and hunting with primative weapons is a great idea for a spinoff.

Yeah, being amongst all the many many FPS games, this is actually a pretty bold move by Ubi. No guns, just spears, bows, and clubs (I assume). I'm actually pretty stoked for this game just based on the trailer. I'm hoping they show some gameplay fairly soon.

Noticed this game is not numbered. What if the setting was actually a virtual reality and the main character is using it for training or maybe it's some kind of test. At the end of the game, he wakes up and they set the story up for far cry 5: future. Full reveal in 4 months at e3 2016.

They also made Valiant Hearts and Child of Light done by Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Montreal.

I get it but at the same time, the Horizon vs Primal comparisons are kind of silly

It's like comparing Soma and Bioshock simply because they both take place underwater

One is an action RPG in a far-future world with sci-fi weaponry, robot monsters, and third person shooter combat that looks pretty arcade-y.
The other is a stone-age first person game with what looks like a heavy melee focus and survival elements

Instead of Towers you'll have to paint caves to mark your area.

I actually really like the idea that you find cave paintings to reveal information about an area. Shoehorning towers in would be weird, even if they just had climbable trees instead of towers.

I don't really get the notion that this is a cash in. Wouldn't a cash in be some quick, easy shit that barely takes any time? Like Far Cry 5 set in the same location as four or like 'Far Cry 4: YOU PLAY AS THE VILLAIN NOW' edition.
