Wait, is the consensus that Genei Ibun Roku #FE is going to bomb?

They shouldn't have announced that #FE concert so early, then...
I'd say most here expect less than 100k for the game, me included.

Still nearly 3 months left, maybe the game pulls an Splatoon and impresses everyone.

That concert was probably announced knowing full well how the game would perform. As Nintendo has said themselves (or maybe it was Atlus working on the title), this is a long term series/product.

Nintendo certainly does need to build out a more robust library, so this may be a calculated decision. Of course, one could wonder how much value an IP like this would have but it does fill in a couple of nice niches for them in one package, so if the game gets a generally positive reception, they may be in for the long haul to grow it out.

Not every IP comes out and is Splatoon, lol.

btw, PlayStation Japan had an Uncharted stream the other day, so if you have some time to blow, here.

It's entirely on Japanese, those live action segments are pretty neat.

welp yokai really killed pokemon

pokemon XX/XY gonna do sub million!

seriously though, wii u shouldn't drop below 10k, splatoon should also be stable next week

At this stage and with the holiday coming (nintendo period), we can say that Splatoon will be the next million seller on Wii U in Japan.
It will be more difficult for Mario maker to make the million.

And I'm glad for Rhythm Tengoku.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but with the price cut, the PS4 has finally crossed streams with Wii U.

EDIT: After 85 weeks on sale, Wii U had sold 1,839,077 and the PS4 1,844,243.

Little bit off-topic, Dark Souls III has been open for pre-orders. How much do folks expect for this game?

Release is ways off but I see it at top 1 on Amazon.Jp, I'd assume it will do around original Dark Souls 2 release numbers at least, but I hope it will do DS2+SOTFS numbers.
It's only released on PS4 in Japan so keeping expectations in check though, if price cut can keep up the hardware sales wouldn't be surprised if it manages to pass DS2.

I know it's been said a lot, but I hope Splatoon basically being the Wii U's savoir in Japan leads to Nintendo putting a little more stock in their younger developers to create new IPs. You can still dust off the old faithfuls once or twice a console gen, but people need something completely new and unexpected to get excited about every now and then. The OG Nintendo guys who are producers and and managers now created legendary franchises when they were young and just cutting their teeth. Passing the torch is overdue.

Considering WiiUs post launch sales performance and the expectations for PS4 due to this, especially after its western success, it´s kind of funny to see the system just crossing launch aligned sales after 1,5years and it took MGS5 and an official price drop to do so. At this point it was "supposed" to run circles around WiiUs actual lifetime sales, considering the unfortunately low bar.

it's slowly taking over for vita as the ps platform of choice. of course it will eventually become the only ps platform of choice unless sony does a reverse ps tv and literally makes a portable ps4 with games download-only.

there's a sizable amount of companies out there that are sticking with the dedicated market in japan, too. if they're not already on 3ds or supporting nintendo in some fashion as well as sony, their options are quickly going to become ps4/nx, mobile, or do ps4-only and cut budgets or do ps4-only and hope a us publisher picks it up and gets the game ported to steam.

WIU - 3
This sure is some PlayStation domination this week, even if thanks to multiplatform releases.

Well some gaffers expected Wii U to dominate Japanese market so GAF expectation won't matter much.

Take that they have Monster Hunter, Pokemon, and Dragon Quest so the only huge franchise is Final Fantasy but I feel that is just an announcement away. Japan for the most part has only been a one system region.
This reads like he is sharing his expectations for the support of Nintendo NX.

I think his prediction mostly failed because it was based on the later proofen false premise that WiiU would benefit from cross-gen software (something that is still a thing in 2015 and at least 2016 in Japan for Sony), while it ended up beeing basically a Nintendo-only system and to his benefit it wasn´t predictable that support would be killed off immediately after launch, the difference between this and the PS4 predictions is that we already had over 1 year worth data of the competition and its lost software support and that the set bar was pretty low.

Considering that PS4 gets full Western and Japanese support really put things into perspective, because at least this factor in the predictions didn´t change, despite actual bad results regardless so far. While WiiU doesn´t dominate and its position will eventually change, at the very least he was right to a certain extent, since WiiU actually will have the highest lifetime sales among this gens consoles in Japan for the majority of WiiUs lifetime before Nintendos next gen hits the market. While PS4 just surpassing the WiiUs lfetime sales will take at least until well into 2016.

I think my point is actually the same, this process has been very slow so far. Luckily the launch of DQXI and FFXV seem to be well aligned for when Nintendos next handheld comes in at full force.

NX would have dominated the Japanese market, but now that GAF expectations are set, it will flop harder than hard ;p

They're trying to line up with TV series.

Yeah, that's what I've been saying they should do since the second (third? I lost count) delay. It does make a lot of sense, because sales are bound to be frontloaded, so it's better to have the game give it some nice legs.

Dont think its a consensus. Dont know why the game became a laughing stock either. I think it will do better than xenobomba. It actually looks fun and its launching in a much bigger week. I will get this one.
