Assasins Creed Syndicate

I love the AC series. Even with Unity's downfalls, I still enjoyed the game, I just wish we got more. I wish it was optimized on day one, the story was more developed and more.

Is Syndicate running better than Unity (if anyone has the game yet?)?
How's the framerate?
Any noticeable/mass glitches?
I haven't preordered and I told myself I would not until I heard some impressions from reviews and die hard AC fans.

I really hope this series can take a year or two break and come back strong. But I doubt that with next year with the movie, as they will probably have a game to go with it. And the year after that is the 10th anniversary

Maybe next years game will be a big change? I remember all the hype AC III had, and seeing how Syndicate has so little hype is surprising.

Sorry can't say a word now but one experience no matter who it is isn't good enough to really guess anyway. And I Actually got "reminded" about the embargo due to forum posts.

You need to calm down.

My post wasn't about personal attacks or "harm," so I have no clue what you're talking about. You also seemed to have missed the point of my post with the bolded text above - the very crux of the problem with the referenced posts is that you can't ignore them, as they, by their nature, derail substantive discussion and crowd out those who want to have legitimate conversations.

Drive-by posting wouldn't be so discouraged if not for the fact that it's hard to ignore because it hampers relevant dialogue. I'll be honest, I'm a little baffled that this explanation was necessary.

To stay on topic: I was personally curious about the effect the rope launcher would have on regular free-roaming parkour. Glad to hear it may actually be a useful addition.
I was perfectly calm. I really don't see how I was appearing agitated or however you perceived it.

I understood your post, I know what you're getting at, but besides taking a few seconds to read posts that are apparently "drive-by shitposts," I really don't see how it can derail an entire thread. Like I said, you can ignore it. I'm not defending their posts and I'm not encouraging it, I just don't have a problem with people making silly posts about a video game.

In the 5 minutes I watched of streams today, I noticed the game still has some really funny looking bugs. One where the assassin was hiding in one of those little outhouse looking structures and when the NPC came close he tried to 'assassinate' him but instead the NPC just started doing a swim motion in place for like 10-15 seconds and then teleported into the sky.

I poked fun at old footage of the zipline, but after watching more footage of the game it looks like a god send. You can cover huge distances with it. Here is some good looking Xbox One footage that has some of what I am talking about:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ6nunoo8Js

I never thought it would happen, but I have kind of changed my tune on this game. I just felt burned out and so not ready for another Assassin's Creed, but all of the footage makes me want to play it. I can't lie.

Yeah, same.

I still feel the zipline looks like a half-baked idea [the way the ropes just magically appear/disappear and the animations are so wonky], but it seems like an essential tool to traverse the city since the streets are crazy wide.

Traversal seems fun, which is easily the thing I enjoyed the most in Unity as well. And similar to Unity, I can tolerate quite a lot of jank if I'm enjoying myself by just exploring.

We should give Europe a break. Let's go to South Africa at least. Or Egypt.
An ancient Egyptian setting is by far my most desired setting for the game. They need to start going backwards in timeframe, and Egypt would be amazing. Just the thought of seeing the pyramids in their current engine with its massive scale has me excited for what they could do with that setting.

He didnt really talk about the story. He is just 4 sequences in so far.
Than his opinion is moot. If you don't finish the game you can't really form an educated opinion. It doesn't help that the Internet hates anything AC related now.

Watching THIS video and I like the the hustle and bustle of the city in certain areas. Also, nice little detail when he climbs aboard the small boat and puts the guy in the water accidentally. The zipline also looks pretty cool and allowed them to really push the scale of the buildings/streets without making traversal any more tedious.

Still think not having exploration music is a mistake and I have no idea why they keep leaving it out. The combat animations also generally look lower quality than previous games.

EDIT: Seems like they pushed the "1v1 while everyone else stands around" combat to new heights. Are there no 2 or 3 person attacks like in Batman? Looks really awkward.

He mostly talks about the graphics, gameplay, and stuff. Says he has been playing side stuff and has just been messing with the world so far.

To be fair, there has not been a decent story in Assassins Creed games since the original trilogy ended, so I doubt it would be anything special in Syndicate.

This guy at Reddit has the game early (Middle East). He has nothing good to say about the game.

He thinks Unity(Patched) was a better game than Syndicate. This game sounds like it 6-7/10 at best.

I have no problem with criticism, but it's very difficult to take this guy seriously. His main criticism is that it looks terrible compared to unity (which is untrue, unless he's doing that thing where people judge graphics by their preference in art style) and that the jump distance has apparently been reduced.

Apparently he didn't install the day one patch.

I really hope they've polished this game properly and get rid of the bugs that people are obviously going to focus on.

I ignored Unity so I'll get this one. not expecting to finish the whole thing though

Why has this guy not downloaded the 2 patches? Too scared to go online in case of ban? that doesnt happen on the PS4, never to me anyway and I get all games like a week before release. I installed them and finished the game with only having 1 glitch if I remember correctly. At first I wasnt digging the game that much, but after completing around 50% of the game I started to enjoy it more.

Taking control of territories by erasing gang strongholds, saving the children, templar hunts and bounty hunts do get repetitive and boring though, even when I was level 5 I was doing the ones that had a recommended level of 10 quite easily.

For templar hunts all I needed to was go high and eliminate the bad guys one by one with headshots using the throwing knife. The same method when rescuing the working children.
For the Bounty hunts, instead of taking out the enemies first, it was easier to attract attention which caused the bounty to run away, now all I did was chase him and then kidnap him.

Gang upgrades are really cool, your allies do get very strong and can come to you anytime in a carriage by holding R1 and choosing the command. This did require a upgrade though.

Evie's invisible cloak is OP though, I actually turned it off not long after I did upgrade.

Graphics look toned down, less polys for shapes. Hopefully the PC version can still look well as I had no issue running it.

They won't retouch the models. But we can look forward to better LOD, draw distances, shadows, HBAO+, and resolutions above 900p on top of no 30fps limitations.

Sounds good to me.

"framerate is atrocious but not as bad as unitys"

hmm yeah...think i'll wait on other impressions.

what? lol. I've been playing the game for 4 days now (but I didn't play for more than 5 hours ) and framerate is good enough. I didn't notice any dips below 24 or so. Just yesterday I unlocked 4 lvl and bought the greastest handgun ever made - Colt Single Action Army. it was super fun watching 3 or 5 thugs running to me only to get head shots. If you have any questions - you can freely ask me anything. I even uploaded two short videos to youtube, but Ubi had them deleted :(

How is the mission design? Are you placed in interesting scenarios or is it the usual tail this guy and kill that guy?

Admittedly I didn't put much time into the game, but so far missions were either usual shit or something with a new topping on them to feel them better.

One thing I noticed yesterday that I didn't like was this. Besides my leveling up skills and gear I noticed, that districts of the town under control of Templars have their levels as well. And sure enought I bumped into a small gang of 6 level thugs and began fighting. But it felt like bad MMO or RPG design. Being two levels short my kukri did veeery little damage with every hit, but enemies were more agressive. So I spent like two or three minutes trying to kill them, until more came in and I fled. That was super wierd for AC game and I don't approve this design as of now, but again, I didn't play the game for too long.

What I like that every small mission has additional tasks just like Unity did or MGS V does.
Like if you have two targets - killing them both with one attack, or something like that.

I second posts two and three. Last one I liked was Black Flag.

really wish we would get one in japan or china.......boats are used as well. Except no cannons just archery hell, setting fire to boats and boarding and slicing the shit out of people!

A Japanese Creed would be great. Too bad they chose China for that side-scroller digital download game. I grew tired of that long before the second mission started.

Now that their technology has evolved, I would not put it past them to remake the first game. The first game with a new engine would be glorious, but it would need a lot of updates.

Other than that, I expect the next mainstay game to take place during the second world war. And then a straight jump to modern future.

Luckily I've too many games to play at the moment, otherwise I might be too intrigued to take a plunge in the Victorian London. Well if this reviews well I might end up picking this up at some point, just because I think the location is the most interesting in any AC game so far.

Can anyone tell me definitively how the "who do you play as" stuff works? I ask because I would possibly buy an AC game with a female protag, but since this is dual protag I am on the fence.

How much do you play as the twin sister (I forget her name)? Do you choose to play as her as you please, or is it more like playing Ciri where it just happens briefly when the story comes to it?

Also, how intrusive is the modern world real life crap? I have very little patience for playing through that stuff. That's not what I'd play an AC game for. In Black Flag I almost didn't make it through because of the modern world stuff.

In the open world roam, you select who you play as. Story missions force you into either the male or female perspective - depending on the mission at hand.

No idea. All I know is Unity had almost zero modern day elements.

Well, got the opportunity to play AC:S for couple of hours:

Sigh...honestly, I feel that AC:U (patched) is the better game here. This just feels so...old. Like almost nothing has changed for the better. Lighting is so much worse now than in Unity, and it can really be felt especially atmosphere wise. Character models...same thing. Jank...as bad as ever. Missions...same boring shit with the same shit AI. UI...you guessed it - NO, actually it is somehow WORSE...luckily you can adjust the HUD though. Unity at least had some "next-gen" things going on...actually the closest I would compare this game in many ways is Revelations.

Sure, there are some (not many) new ideas but they lack any impact because the general feeling is so "last year". Anyway, can't say that I'm disappointed as I had no expectations whatsoever. 6-7/10 game...at best

EDIT: Also, one thing that really gets super annoying is the repeating enemies. Sure, it's been the same in every AC but here it is somehow worse than before. You're fighting that big bald dude, the female one, the cane ones etc...all in the stupid same red outfits over and over again. Especially because those red dudes are everywhere in the streets and attack you on sight...seriously this is not cutting it anymore in 2015 - not when many other games do it so much better. I mean come on even in Batman: AK there is more enemy variety and that itself could get quite repeating/annoying.

Even though Unity was a mess, I'm still looking forward to this one. It's unlikely it will be in a broken state like Unity was, unless Ubisoft are wanting to kill the franchise and not make any money.

I like the setting (as I'm from the UK) and the characters seem interesting from what I've seen of them so far. I like the change in combat, the new grapple hook / zip line tool and the fact that the story looks like it will focus on actually assassinating set targets again, with each target being a gang leader for a certain part of the city.

Hopefully this will be another decent entry in the series and not another Unity.

Car chases are my least favorite part in any open world game. Syndicate seemed to have it by means of janky carriages.

I want to explore virtual London but I'll wait for impressions.

It's time to give the franchise a rest for a couple of years instead of yearly releases. It's become stale and in my opinion Ubisoft risk stagnating the franchise.

Im a huge Assasins Creed fan and I just preordered Syndicate.

Ive played through all the games except Unity, that ones a buggy mess.

Am I going to regret my purchase?
Anyone else hyped about the new game?

Completely forgot that this is coming out.

My hype got nuked after the mess that was Unity. They should have made a Black Flag II for next gen consoles... But nope.

If a game isn't compelling enough to make you want to play when you're that far in, it isn't a good game.

I might sound a bit edgy, but I refuse to support a series that has been milked to death and gets annual releases, even if the game is decent. This trend needs to stop.

A two-three year break would really help this franchise not just for the feeling winter releases are becoming so predictable, this and Call of Duty. It would give the Dev teams more time to work and implement new ideas plus it would give a sense of excitement and anticipation again amongst gamers

I agree, yearly releases pretty much kill creativity. And Ubisoft has some pretty talented devs...

The framerate is not worse or better than in any other Assassin's Creed game prior to Unity. I can count the times the framerate noticably dipped on one hand after playing for about 10 hours.

I don't know if that reddit guy is simply lying or didn't install any of the patches, but what he says is not actually true for the game I'm playing.

Can anyone tell me definitively how the "who do you play as" stuff works? I ask because I would possibly buy an AC game with a female protag, but since this is dual protag I am on the fence.

You can change the character whenever you want from the main menu when you're running around in the city. Some missions you can only play with Jacob, some with Eevie, with some you can choose. Always depends on the mission and the story it's telling. Eevie and Jacob have their own agendas and interests so you are basically playing two different, intertwined stories - I'd say it's been a pretty even 50/50 split so far.
